Ugh...another system designed to stand vertically. The only system I ever put on its side was the Wii. Is this something that people do regularly?

I hate vertical systems. They take up a ton of space and give circular scratches on the discs. Bring back the fake systems!

BTW : Did they really not show anything in that teaser or do I need glasses now?

What other systems were designed to stand vertically? Or at least where sitting horizontally resulted in something being inaccessible or difficult to operate?

PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, Wii U are all designed to stand vertically. Putting them horizontal was never an issue; I just think it's silly to make a console that can stand up. Why would anyone do that when the majority of us are using component-sized entertainment centers and have limited height to work with?

By saying "designed to stand vertically", the implication is that that's the proper way to place it. It was merely an option. Only the Wii (and Wii U, I assume) actually had labels on the hardware that were vertically-oriented.

Options are not bad things. Don't stand it vertically if you don't want it to.

Heat dissipation is the biggest concern with trying to put consoles in units with other component-sized devices. Having oddly-shaped consoles probably helps keep them alive.

It depends on where you put it. If it's on top of a surface with nothing above it, it makes the console's footprint much smaller. Of course you'd have to place it horizontally if it's inside a cabinet.

I've never placed a console vertically, but I have done it with routers.

I have a slightly odd entertainment center, so I keep my Wii U and PS3 vertical. Never had any issues with discs getting scratched. As pinata said, I like having the option to stand my consoles vertical if needed.

Yeah, I don't see the complaint if it doesn't affect anything when it's set horizontally.

It's a minor quibble, but faceplates like these looked crappy horizontally.



The bigger issue was the rounding of console exterior. You sure as Hell couldn't stack anything on top of a phat PS3.

IIRC, their E3 announcement last year was at the same time. I remember catching it live when I got home from work. Is 9PM EST past your bed time?

6 PM PST kind of sucks for west coast people still at, or just heading home for work. That said, I'd think 9 PM EST would be far better for East Coast people already home and relaxing.

I stand my Wii U vertically so I can get more 'range' with the Wii U Gamepad.
