Seriously, who is going to buy the retail version of Drive Club at full price? Everyone who has multiplayer access on the PS4 will be getting the free version and while the disc version does come with three months of Plus (which isn't mentioned in the article), there really doesn't seem to be much to warrant paying $60 for the extra cars -- I think they're wrong about the tracks; I'm pretty sure I've read the free version will only be limited in the cars you have access to. Maybe the disc game will be clearanced out double-quick at Target.

If it's a killer app, people will buy the full version...or maybe the sequel, but yeah, I think you're right.

About 60 FPS. If it works like in a PC, you can dial down the settings to get better frame rate. So it's a choice, you can have 1080p, ultra details, and ~60 FPS if you have the latest videocard. If not, then you dial down one of those three.

I think they did the same in this console generation, some games went below 720p to get a better frame rate.

True, and I don't think it's applicable to compare either console to PC cards given that everything can be fully optimized.

Given the choice, I'll take 60 FPS and upscaled 720P over 1080P and a lower frame rate every time.

I thought the DR3 issues were well known. But yeah, "Ultra" detail kills framerate in many games (looking at you Metro 2033).

Did DR2 worked without issues?

I still remember that the first DR was famous for breaking the Xbox 360.

If it turns out to be a good game, I'd pick it up once it's on clearance. I'm going to need as much hard drive space as possible for all of those free PS+ games.

BTW, have they announced the avg size of these new games? Figure the hard drive it going to be around 450GB or so after updates and system use stuff. So if games are going to be 40 - 50GB, that thing is going to fill up fast if you buy a lot of digital games.

It wasn't a slight on X1, it was against Gizmo's notion that people aren't interested in next gen because the WiiU failed and because of tablets.

I understood the context...just thought it was a funny turn of phrase.

In that interview, "They need to stop talking and start basically doing something" is how it has been coming across since they announced all their policy reversals. Like they want to do this, this and this, but don't know how to make the most money off it just yet.

The frustrating part is you say "Okay fine, well why are the Xbox 360 and PS3 still selling nearly half a million a month?" at which point you get "Because they have full libraries of games" in response. That is at odds with the "nobody play game consoles" thing.

In my personal opinion, Tablets have made an impact, Apple especially, not in terms of adding more entertainment out there, but now that $500 tablets are so widely accepted out there, $500 seems to mean a lot less than it did in 2006 (and in many ways it does).

Gizmo just wants you to know that you're wrong for having any optimism or enthusiasm for the things you like. He refuses to believe that any competing console could have a chance of success since Nintendo's isn't performing to anyone's expectations, and he's quick to tell you how doomed Blu-ray as a format is (over and over and over and over and over and...). Being a curmudgeonly contrarian is kind of his schtick on DVD Talk.

I can see the presence of tablets and phones having an impact on overall sales...not solely because of the competition as a games platform but because some people may want to funnel their $500 in that direction, it's one more thing to occupy their time, etc. I can't fathom that it's anything close to a "sorry, guys, it's over; turn off the lights on your way out" sort of impact, though.

Maybe, but I say have separate lobbies for the console folk. Maybe give an XP boost for playing in the PC lobby. Give people a reason to take a shot at the PC crowd.

They had issues beyond cross-play (which I agree with Dan about for any kind of action game), but they also noted that MS doesn't have policies in place for F2P or even self-publishing (despite what they have announced).

On the early success of these two consoles, I've always thought that they would both sell as many as they can make this year, and if you want a new console this holiday, you'll have 3 options:

1. Preorder
2. Get in line at zero dark thirty
3. Buy a WiiU

Xbox tried the grand crossover experiment with Shadowrun, and console players had their asses handed to them by PC players, as expected.
