Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
Faster than Light was one of the first games that was on KS at the time of double fine. They released a beta the other day. Downloaded FTL last night, messed around it for about 15 minutes, pretty simple gameplay and design. This is going to be a pretty good way to spend a extra half hour here and there.

The MS Paint Adventure guy, Andrew Hussie is making a game for Homestuck.
Kickstarter launched today, over 500k already:

Not sure if this is something I am going to back tho.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
I've read the kickstarter page, and the intro Homestuck link he provides, and I still have no idea what the hell Homestuck is about, or what this kickstarter is going to deliver. It hurts my head to even think about it. He won't even be delivering a game until "sometime" in 2014. WTF?

There's a new site called outgrow.me that compiles all the successful Kickstarters that have a product available for sale or pre-order. It doesn't process the orders themselves, just provides links to where you can buy them. A number of the video game kickstarters are on it:
http://outgrow.me/
A review of the game Forge, whose Kickstarter is ending soon (likely unfunded). At the end of the review the developer states that the Kickstarter won't impact the game getting released (in 2012):
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...ls-like-a-moba
A hands-on review of the Oculus Rift:
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...-of-the-oculus
A story on the development of Planetary Annihilation, and why $900,000 isn't that much money for a game like this:
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...ons-kickstarte
Finally, an older story about the "dark side" of kickstarter promotion, where some developers are adopting questionable tatics for promoting their kickstarter:

A little less than 2 days to go on this interesting-looking RTS:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...5?ref=activity
They've made their basic goal and a number of stretch goals, but they still have a few more stretch goals they'd like to hit.

Updated the OP with new and ended projects.
Kickstarter has changed some of its rules. It's added a "Risks and Challenges" section that project creators need to fill out. Also, hardware kickstarters are no longer allowed to show mock-ups or renderings, only existing prototypes:
http://www.kickstarter.com/blog/kick...is-not-a-store
On a related note, there's a Kickstarter for iControlPad 2, an open source BT keyboard/controller for Android/iOS devices:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ce-controller/
As the name suggests, they had already released the original iControlPad BT controller last year:

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
As superdeluxe pointed out, several projects have exceeded $1 million. More importantly though, several had near that amount of money as a goal.
Wasteland 2 had a goal of $900,000 (The budget was $1 million, but Brian Fargo was willing to put in $100,000 of his own money if they didn't exceed their goal).
Project Eternity had a goal of $1.1 million, more than this one.
My understanding is that it's no additional cost to the backer. Obviously they think that making two games would cost approximately twice as much as making one (after factoring in other stretch goals and the savings from shared assets like game engine).

They have over 130k in less than 24 hours. With the way these things work, I think they will hit the minimum funding structure. If you figure they get 250k in the first 2-3 days. And they finish up getting 100-200k over the last few days then they just need 550-600k over the remaining 25-26 days.

Yes, true. But Wasteland 2 and a Kickstarter project from Obsidian have a heck of a lot more built-in interest than one offered by "Game designers Brenda Brathwaite (Wizardry, Dungeons & Dragons) and Tom Hall (Commander Keen, Anachronox, and DOOM)". At least that's my impression.

Yes, though John Romero was in charge of Daikatana. Gotta keep in mind they also did the original Deus Ex.

Looks like John Romero is somewhat involved in this game as well:
Perhaps the tag line should be "John Romero's about to make you his bitch...again".

Good news for Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective fans.
Even though the Kickstarter wasn't successful, the developer went ahead and worked on remastering the series anyway, recently releasing the first 3 cases individually for iPad2/3 for $2.99 each:
http://www.zojoi.com/mysteries.htm
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/1-mummy/id559255762
The first case was just released on PC for $3.99. I see it on Desura, I'm not sure who else carries it:
http://www.desura.com/games/sherlock...ective-case-1/
The Kickstarter tiers would've been a better bargain for the backers if it had succeeded, but at least they're still be made, and for less than buying the OOP DVD version:

I haven't really seen any new kickstarters that interest me recently. The only one was for a magazine Pure Nintendo, taking the mantle of the soon-to-be-cancelled Nintendo Power magazine:
http://venturebeat.com/2012/10/11/pu...e-kickstarter/
However, I did come across a few articles.
"The untold story of Kickstarter’s most dedicated backers: Do-gooders or addicts?"
http://venturebeat.com/2012/10/09/th...rs-or-addicts/
"Life After Kickstarter: The Second Coming Of Pro Pinball"
http://www.redbull.co.uk/cs/Satellit...21243269547750
Not a Kickstarter, but Wing Commander Chris Roberts is crowd-funding his new space-flight game Star Citizen:
http://starcitizen.robertsspaceindustries.com/
However, Penny Arcarde Report is skeptical:
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...-and-promises-
Kickstarter is expanding to the UK at the end of the month, opening it up to more developers:
http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/...re.asp?c=45740
Kickstarter is starting to reject more hardware projects, which led company Lockitron to start their own crowdfunding site for their smartphone-controlled door lock. They were so successful that they decided to release their site software as open-source, so anyone can create a crowdfunding site for a project:

Interesting about Pro Pinball. I had forgotten about that one. If they go back to the drawing board to make the new one for iOS and PC only, I'm not that interested in it. Then again, maybe the point is to get funded first and then try for the stretch goals. Still, for a pinball game to ignore the 360 and PS3 really limits its appeal. Do iPad gamers really care enough about specific games and genres to fund major projects like Pro Pinball?

So they still need approx $1M to fund the game, but if the Kickstarter reaches $500K, they've essentially promised the game to those people, even if they don't raise the full $2M.
What's more, the funding dates are apparently different. The crowdfunding site says funding ends in 22 days, which would be 11/10 at the latest, while the Kickstarter ends on 11/19.
Here they state what the reasoning for starting the Kickstarter was:

That Shaker game sure ground to a halt. After a promising start, nearly $150k in the first day or so, it took 2 more weeks to get the next $100k. They're averaging less than $5k a day now.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
The creators of Quest for Glory have a new game called "Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption" coming tomorrow.
It's not a QfG sequel, but it's going to be an adventure/RPG similar to those games with a new story/setting.
