I don't think that skill works with the first set of basic spells. You need to buy the next set of spells (try the mage in whiterun castle).. fire bolt, ice spike, lighting bolt.

I decided to go in by myself and try to get Thorald out peacefully. My horse died so i ended up spending two hours walking on foot to Northwatch keep. Talked to the guards who denied Thorald was still alive and i would have to talk to their superior. having walked for two hours i was royally pissed and stormed the prison, made my way down killing nearly a dozen imperial guards and finally found Thorald. Escorted him back up killing more imperials on the way. Made it outside where i was greeted by half a dozen more guards. Don't know how, but managed to wipe them all out while Thorald just stood there doing nothing to help! Man what a fucking epic quest!

My only problem now is that i've killed the imperials i'm now on the rebels side. Is there anyway to re-join the imperials or am i pretty screwed till i can start my next play through?
You're fine. The thalmor are not the same as imperials; they're just a group of asshole elves.

However, it is weird that the number of game saves you have can affect how the game itself runs.
I save everytime I try and pickpocket someone. Even though I always overwrite the last one, I have like 350 saves

Meh. So if you have a companion..and then you do the Companion quest where Farkas joins you (and you lose that other follower), do you lose all of your crap? My follower was Farendahl from Riverrun.

So I steal thousands of dollars worth in gold, but the first time I punch a chicken, my follower one shot kills me with a hammer strike to the head.

That free house exploit works in Whiterun. Saved me tons of cash. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, 5000 is a lot of change, at least in the early parts of the game. I wasn't about to drop that much so early on.

If you go back to Riverrun, he should be hanging around there somewhere with his inventory intact.

It is a lot of money, but the fun part for me was doing minor quests and little jobs in and around town to save up enough to buy it. Felt great when I finally earned enough. That's sort of the way it was meant to be played.

Well sure, I earned the 5000, just didn't want to give it up once I got it.

How the hell can I pickpocket gold? I'm only level ~25 pickpocket, but it's always 0% chance.

I'm actually disappointed that Skyrim does not have "saddle bags". That mod was one of the main reasons I preferred Oblivion on PC. How hard would it have been to give horses an accessible inventory?

Maybe they didn't want people to just have Pack Mules?

Why not? It is completely realistic for horses to carry things for you; in fact it's stupid for them not to. It's not like they didn't have an example in Oblivion. It was one of the most popular mods. I hate cheats and never downloaded those mods, but the Saddlebag mod should have been in the game. Everything was there for it in the existing game and it was so easy to do. You would mount your horse if you were in normal mode but in sneak you would "pickpocket" its inventory.

Isn't that what we're all doing with the companions?

Have a weight limit on the character but go right ahead fill hundreds of weapons and items in your storage chest!

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

A weight limit is realistic (and let's face it, starting out able to carry that much is unrealistic - but I quibble). So is having a horse carry your burdens. People have been doing it for 1,000's of years.

53 hours in...just finished returning the thieves guild to full glory...that was a low point so far in the game...

The thieves quest line is really good up until you need to get your name out there by doing small jobs...30 + random jobs and 5 hours later (with at least 1 hour of loading) I finally did it...really slow shit...

I'm about 40 hours in. I bought the house, and never use it. I bought a horse and he got killed by a bandit. Bought a dog, and he was killed by a skeleton.

Heh...my dog was such a hassle I made him an indoor-dog and kept him in the house. I guess he got sick of that and I got a message saying he decided to go back home!

I just saw an imperial guard on a horse with saddle bag attached. It was a different colored horse so maybe later in the game you can get different horses? Or Bethesda is gonna sell $10 horse saddle bags

Also got the Dawnbreaker sword from a quest last night. Looks awesome!

I just completed that one last night. Not sure what the requirements were though. (If any.)
