I was walking across a plain when a dragon started flying over me. He was breathing fire at me, landed a few times, etc... I started running and noticed 3 mammoths walking. The next time the dragon landed, he attacked the mammoths, killing them all, then killed me. It was quite the spectacle to watch.

To me, this game is an advancement over Oblivion and Fallout, but it's a change in degree, not in kind. If you found those games overwhelming, unenjoyable, or difficult to get oriented while playing, I don't think you'll find Skyrim any better.
This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say, except you said it better than I had planned.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I had something funny happen earlier. I came upon and Orc and a couple of wolves fighting each other. So I killed on wolf and then turned to the Orc and shot him with an arrow.

I get the "100 bounty added to (whatever town it was I forget)" and I am thinking "oops, he was a good guy."

So I fought him, and killed him.

Then I turned my attention to the other wolf and when he died, I got a message saying the bounty was lifted because I just killed the witness, which was the wolf

Snitches get stitches, Wolfy.

Yeah, they thankfully added a system to this game where you don't get a bounty if there are no witnesses left alive to report you. My only witness to one outdoor theft was a chicken...let's just say that instead of jail time, I had chicken dinner that day.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

my advice is to play this how you feel you want to play it...I try...oh how I try to stay on task...that is the way my game goes

"9 pm...got 4 hours of play time...I am going to clear all the mage quests first...then move on to Dark Brotherhood..so let me JUST click on Mage missions and un-click everything else...there...now to find this guy for the mage quest...just a short walk...OH that is a cool looking tree...climb climb climb...hey here is a word of power...and a cave...I'll just stick my nose in there and check it out real quick then I am back on the mage quest...hey a master level door..ok I got to pick this...checks clock..WTF its 1 in the morning..time for bed"

That has been just about every night for me on this game...near 40 hours in and I am only 8 quest done and 10 side quests..

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I found a treasure map after killing some bandits in the camp near Riverwood. The map is kind like in Red Dead Redemption, it show a picture of the area with a X where the treasure would be and didn't have any trouble in finding it. The map was Treasure Map 1 so I'm sure there are more maps to find.

You ready for this bullshit? i just checked last night. 5 quests and 5 side quests done. 42 hours in. WTF?!

(Although I think I've probably completed a few quests I haven't even gotten yet based on items I've picked up here and there on my own exploring.)

Woke up climed the mountain and I get attacked by a Dragon by a dragon wall and some floating boss. I was getting tired gave it 3 trys and gave up.

Yeah there is a camp of Giants right outside of Whiterun, almost learned the hard way but I was sneaking and made sure to clarify my target before I started dropping fire bombs.

ANyways I was doing the quest for the companions, where they want me to kill the bandit leader at Halted Stream camp. Problem is..I had already cleared that place out for the bounty that you pick up at Riverrun.

Obviouslly it was a glitch, because when I went back to Halted Stream Camp. All the bandits reappeared. Not sure why it wouldn't just give me the credit with Farkas.

I was about 30 hours in, and decided to start over with a new character yesterday. That will probably only happen about 5 more times in the next few weeks.

Apparently that is one of those dynamic quests that they are using to claim the infinite quest aspect of the game. I did that same quest too but it was for a different bandit camp. Apparently when he gives you the quest it's go clear [fill in the blank] and kill the leader. It looks like it just happened to pick a place you had previously been to.

Yeah for some reason I've have trouble using the map. I try and set a destination marker and it tells me that I haven't discovered it yet but do I want to set anyway. It turns a light blue. Now sometimes the little arrow appears on my compass guiding me and sometime no matter how many times I try to set it, it shows light blue on the map but no guide on my compass.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

For some reason the game separates main quests, sidequests, and miscellaneous quests. I've completed a ton of the "Miscellaneous Objectives" and the game says I've only done 2 sidequests. It seems a bit random as to how it determines which is which.

And I agree that it's hard to get anything done in this game. It seems like it's impossible to finish one quest without finding 3 others. I did manage to finish the Mage's College questline last night, after forcing myself to ignore a whole new town that I discovered along the way to one of the final objectives.

The destination marker seems to have the lowest priority of all the different type of compass markers. Meaning, it will often get hidden behind other compass markers. It's quite annoying.

Find yourself a horse. You can then run past just about any foe without a fight.

I would gladly pay real money for some sort of DLC that would keep my horse from dying so easily.
