Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Have they quit running sales on track packs recently? Haven't heard any of sales in a while. I was going thru the catalog last night and I would love to get the Billy Joel packs. But I know as soon as a do that they will have a discount on them.

I also want the updated Queen packs but don't really want to pay the full price on them since I bought the first releases all ready. They should definitely discount those for that reason alone as I know others are in the same boat.

Definitely in for the Foreigner tracks though Paparazzi will likely end up in my stack as well.

There was a big sale last summer, and a couple since then. Maybe expect another sale before summer is over?

Meh. Was hoping that pro Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground would be included in a Jack White themed week of some type.

The threading on one of the eye bolts used to keep my cymbal bar attached to my ions went out Went down to Loews yesterday but couldn't find one the same size with a big enough eye. Ugh.

I'm in an exercise/walking program at work with amazing prizes and was hoping to use the drums to win it all. Need to get the part replaced ASAP.

Well, to Micro Center. They're sending a Fed Ex guy to pick up my broken guitar today at my office and will ship out a new one via Next Day Air once it's on the truck. Way above and beyond, in my book.

I wonder why with such a nice instrument controller the fret buttons are so plasticy and seemingly cheap. The parts of the guitar you don't use are totally top-notch, so why is the part you're pressing every day not of higher quality?

Anyway, I think I'll put up a mounting bracket on the wall of my Man Cave so I can have it up displayed decoratively when I'm not actually using it.

BTW : In for the Foreigner songs for sure. Can't remember which "fake" Foreigner song I still have in my library, but I know I have one. Are these the first real Foreigner songs available in Rock Band?

Gaga + Foreigner? Yes please!

Decker: Cold as Ice is in Rock Band 3. A cover version of Juke Box Hero was released soon after the 1st Rock Band game IIRC.

Yes to both of those and there was a 3-pack two years ago with Blue Morning, Blue Day, Feels Like the First Time, and Headknocker.

These are the 6th and 7th Foreigner songs. I'm in for them and at least Born This Way as I mentioned before.

Any advice on where to go for replacement Ion parts? Found a cymbal clamp for $8 at new england music but they want $12 for the cheapest shipping option.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

It's been confirmed that two of the Ozzy songs will only be available as part of the pack:

UPDATE: @HMXHenry posted an update on the forums and contacted me LATE last night to explain a few things. While pricing and track listing were not confirmed, he did comment on the unique changes to this pack:

“Yes, there will be 8 songs in the Ozzy pack. Yes, “Bark at the Moon” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home” will be two of the songs in the pack. Yes, they will have Pro Guitar upgrades. Yes, these two tracks will only be available as part of the 8 pack. And yes, this is the first time we’ve done something like this.”

Since this is a unique situation that has happened before, my guess is that the pack exclusive songs were probably a licensing arrangement. It doesn’t fit Harmonix’s MO of releasing all songs also as singles. @HMXHenry also commented…

“We will definitely be watching to see how the community reacts to this DLC release. We’re already tracking comments on the forums and we’ll be checking download stats on the back end as well. Everyone should feel free to weigh in with their thoughts, especially once the specifics of pricing are announced so everyone is able to get the full picture. Rest assured that we’re not planning on doing this every week from now on or anything like that.”

Hmmmm. I'm not really a fan of this move. Especially if the exclusive songs are some of the artist's bigger hits, like these two Ozzy songs. (Though I see why they'd do that rather than have deep cuts be the exclusives...$$$.)

Not a fan of the move but if it entices bigger acts to bring large packs to the game it might be a necessary evil. I'll be getting the pack, wouldn't if it wasn't the only way to get the two tracks.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Right, I totally understand and I totally hate it.

I wasn't really looking for the full pack of Ozzy, but Mama was a definite purchase for me. I'll probably pass now because, really, I have like 800 songs already, I'm not going to miss one when the alternative is supporting a trend I don't find consumer-friendly.

According to HMXHenry (via RBA), the DLC is coming Monday instead of Tuesday.

Im not against pack exclusive tracks, but the biggest hits? Fuck that noise. I'll be anxious to see if pack sales make up for all the $2-$6 individual sales they will no doubt lose by doing this.

This is a terrible idea and hope that they listen to the community and avoid it again in the future if possible. But I was in for the pack before I knew any of these details, so my vote won't be with my wallet this time.

At this point, what are the options for Pro Guitars? After browsing through here and Amazon I'm still confused. Is it worth getting one of these? I play guitar for real, but is it hard to make the transition? Thoughts?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

There are only two options: the button-matrix mustang and the six-string squier.

Get the squier and learn the language of the game. Shouldn't be hard for you since you're coming from a background.

Is this the mini squire on amazon? I'm so confused. Is it labeled 'Rock Band' or not?

It's actually not a "mini" -- it's a full-size Squier, and you can even plug it into an amp and play it like a real guitar (because, well, it is a real guitar as well) if you want.

Here's the link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Squier®-Fender...dp/B004MF102G/

Other websites carry it too, like Musicians Friend, but because it's a specialty item, they aren't selling it at a discount like I was expecting.

If you bite on the Squier, be sure to pick up a MIDI adapter (ex: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Ro...dp/B0042B3EOM/ ). That's necessary for the guitar to work in the game.

^BTW, in case you didn't check them out yourself, disregard the poor customer rating for that guitar. The 3 reviews are dedicated to bitching about the high price the Marketplace sellers were charging (the current sellers are charging the correct price of $280.)

One of the 1-star reviews even says "this thing is AWESOME."

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

So I took the 6 string squire to my guitar teachers house to use for practice, he tested it out for me and played some zeppelin and said it was awesome. He wants me to bring my ps3 next week so he can try it out in game and see how close it is to the real tab. The only complaint he had was that the frets have a little raise on them which he assumed was the touch sensors.

I definitely suggest the 6 string squire if you play for real, the buttons on the mustang may be a bit much to get used to. It's a bit more, but check best buy, it is exclusive to them for a new one. With the midi adapter it should run about 330 or so (go to the post office and get a movers guide it has a 10 percent coupon in it which they took at my best buy) knocking the price down to 270 before tax.

It's probably still BB exclusive and the ones they have are used ones they took in or got directly from best buy for the few customers that may want them.

Even easier, use this link from 5/25-5/30 for the same 10% off.

Heads-up : The Midi Pro Adapter for each system is on sale for $25 as the Amazon Video Game Deal of the Day.

Well, if they were reselling ones they purchased from Best Buy, it'd be higher than $279.99. Otherwise, not only would they not be making any profit whatsoever, but they'd be taking a slight loss.

The Best Buy exclusivity period has ended. It's just that the guitars are still in very short supply but are still very much in demand, and anyone who's taken Econ 101 knows what that means.

Damn...I have thought about getting a squire one day if the price is right.

Anyone think the pro adapter will be a hard to find item or much cheaper down the road?
