For Trophy/Achievement hunters, this might not be the best game for you.
One of the trophies/achievements is to master all of the characters in the game. One of the requirements for mastering a character is to log 24 hours of playtime with them. With 26 characters, you're looking at 624 hours of playing time to get that trophy (possibly 312 if tag matches count). For the PS3, this might even take longer as it has Kratos from God Of War.
At least its not like the next to impossible trials on SF IV and SSF IV, but be prepared to spend A LOT of time on the platinum for this game.

I'm at the MK II part of the Story mode, and I am loving it. I honestly had no idea this was in the game. When I read previews, I just figured the standard "Arcade mode" would have random cutscenes. I didn't know it would travel through my entire childhood!

Street Fighter, THIS is how you do a story mode.

Just got notification from Target.com that my Tournament Edition order has been delayed until June 1st. I'm beyond pissed. Don't send that stuff out the day the game is supposed to be released. They are going to get an earful from me.
EDIT: Here's what I sent
EDIT AGAIN: Target wrote back and waived the shipping fees. So that's nice. Still annoyed though. I also stopped at a Target this morning and didn't see it on the shelves. Just a frustrating experience, especially for a pre-order.

That said, I actually went ahead and ordered a Tournament Edition from Best Buy today with one day shipping for 10 bucks and it should be here tomorrow, so the whole thing ended up being a waste of time anyway.
I just got my copy of Mortal Kombat on Blu-ray and there's a code for "Classic Jade" included for the game, so that was a nice surprise.

I'm normally at Arcade Stick Player (I have 6 of them), but for me personally I might invest in a good Pad for MK9.
I just can't get used to any of the layouts I've tried out on Stick. Having to figure out where to put Block/Tag where:
1) I can access them fast to Block/Tag
2) Access them naturally to EX
3) Access them naturally to X-Ray
I've yet to find a layout that can do all those 3. Having Block at the bottom of the Stick so that I can get a quick X-Ray is so awkward.
The PS3 Pad/Default Layout is perfect for this game. I really liked it when I played the Demo. Off to search for a good pad for this game

You bought the game in the morning and you put it up for sale at 3:30pm. WTF?

I hope there is some kind of indication for each character you have mastered. It would suck not knowing which characters you still need to log hours with.

He went from not having played it at all at around 5 PM to putting it up for sale at around 6:45.
Those must have been some awfully-brutal online matches.

True, and I do sympathize with the man. The Mortal Kombat hype almost sucked me in. But even watching the review of the game...it just all looked so boring to me. A shame, cause I used to love fighters. Eh well...

I'm the opposite - always loved and still love most fighting games, and though the MK demo left me cold, all these positive reviews are enticing me to try out the full game.
Funny thing is how the pendulum for fighting games has swung so far back to the 2-D side of things. 10 years ago, the newer fighting games were mostly 3-D affairs, but now, the major games (Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, MK, Blaze Blue, etc.), even if they're rendered in 3-D, are played on a 2-D plane, which I certainly prefer.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011
Shao Kahn is SOO cheap in this game!!! I'm playing the story mode and got to the part where I have to fight him with Liu Kang (just got the halfway achievement) and he does this annoying thing when you hit him, his whole body flashes and he doesn't take any damage even though he's not blocking! Had to take a break from playing because I wanted to break my controller. I'm still really enjoying this game quite a bit though, it's really cool seeing all the updated takes on the old classic levels like The Pit & Living Forest and getting to fight Kintaro...totally forgot about him.

And remember ps3 denizens, even though it's not listed, this game has custom sound track support. Just open your xmb and pick your mp3's in game.

I probably won't pick this up until it's on sale, but that's great to hear. I wish more games would do that. It's especially nice for fighting and racing games where the soundtrack isn't essential and can sometimes be repetitive and annoying.

I like playing the official soundtrack for the first movie. Really sets the pace.
