Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Played the demo yesterday, it really is much easier to do the fatalities (as well as everything else). No more "Medium distance hold low kick for 3 seconds while pressing high punch, duck down, spin around" and then at the end you accidentally hit the guy with a soft punch.

You get like 50% more time to actually enter the move. The moves list is right there on the pause menu (press X to jump directly to the special moves), AND the move list reverses depending on what side of the opponent you're on. Convenient...too convenient? Nah, but I'm betting they'll try to be more "hardcore" in 5 years and the cycle will continue. I'm interested in getting this.

I may actually buy this. Big fan of MK, but I have only rented the last few iterations of the series.

i don't have any fighting games for 360 and this will be first. following this for awhile and even though only played/had maybe one iteration way back for NES, i believe, looking forward to this one.

surprised no page at xbox.com yet.

Anyone get the forest level stage fatality to work? I must have tried it at least ten times with no luck.

Played the demo. meh.
I have to admit, I played the demo after a round of MvC3, which will make most other fighters meh-ish.

I'm not sure if this build has the Forest Stage Fatality in it.

My friends and I tried it a ton last week to no avail.

From how this demo played, it feels like one of the early builds of the game. I think read somewhere that Ed Boon confirmed it being an early build.

And it is awesome. Not that I needed to be sold on the game, but after playing the demo I can't wait for the full game. Old school MK with current gen graphics.

Also played it after a round of MvC3 and had the exact same reaction. In fact, I truthfully thought it felt more like a downloadable game or a discount game than a full retail one.

Guess im in the minority but i was let down by the demo. I ordered both the ps3 and xbox tournament additions awhile back and was looking forward to this so damn much since every MK since 4 has been complete crap. This doesnt feel at all like old school MK. It feels like a 2D version of the newer shitty games. The moves are all different (b f kick for sub zeros slide? And special moves like ppk--this isnt tekken or virtua fighter, its supposed to be MK dammit!) theres no high/low punch/kick, roundhouses or even a run button ( just a stupid style button). I saw the tourney stick config and thought it was going back to its roots but its really not, its just 2D is all. Also the jump kicks suck too.

If it werent for the insane prices ive been seeing for the tournament editions id havr canceled my preorders already and just rented one of them.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

MK I and II didn't have a run feature though. Though I agree some of the moves being switched took some getting used to.

Did you even play UMK3?

UMK3 introduced a chain combo system that was done the same way.

It's a Tag button, for the 2v2 matches.

dude first of all MK3 not UMK3 introduced that.

2nd they arent just combos, but moves. theres a difference. The chain combos of MK3 and the stupid ppkkppk of the newer MK are totally different. And this one is just like MK5+

i know what the button is for in the new game i just mean it's in the same place as the run button as the old ones. it's in that cofig for nostalgia sake as it's not very ergonomic, im just saying they changed the use of it

stick to Marvel games since that's the only thing you actually know what you're talking about. This game was supposed to take it back to its roots, kinda like SF4, but all it did was take the 3D games and make them completely 2D. if you ever REALLY played any MK before 4 you'd know what I'm talking about. It feels nothing like the old games at all.

im afraid i may have this reaction as well. I was really hoping for HP/LP HK/LK setup with sweeps, roundhouses, uppercuts, and jumpkicks similar to MK2/3. The jumping looks REALLY clunky (like MK5 on up) and I hate seeing characters pull out random weapons as "throws" or whatever during battle. I'm more interested in the rumoured Mortal Kombat HD now. However, as I say all this please keep in mind I haven't played the MK demo. I no longer even have a PS3 or 360 (sold both and just kept my Wii) but was planning on rebuying for this.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Fuck it, I just pre-ordered the Tournament Edition from Best Buy. That controller just looks too fun. I've never gotten a fightstick before but that's the main reason I don't like playing on consoles anymore. I built an entire MAME cabinet specifically to play MKII, I liked the demo, that's enough for me.

And if I get cold feet, I'm sure I can sell it for more than I paid for it.

Bad. Ass. I like how they incorporated the 'traditional' QTE from GoW in there. a nice little nod.

Kratos looks pretty nuts. Loved the Medusa head making an appearance too.
