Basically there's 3 top horses. The Kentucky Saddler, Hungarian Half-Bred and American Standardbred. You get the KS from one of Bonnie's missions. Its the golden color one. The HHB is found in Mexico and is a white horse with dark face. The AS is all black and is found in the last area. Any other horse you get will be pretty much the same. The really skinny horses where you can see their ribs are the slowest.

thank ya much for the info.

and I did get the sawed off shotgun thru the Pike's Basin Mission. It's far better than the normal one especially in close areas with a one shot kill.

Remarkable. The sawed off shotgun is my favorite gun in the game. It's particularly helpful for fighting off predators trying to eat your horse, and in close-combat situations (until the pistols come along). It also has a great animation if you come right up to somebody and blast them.

I love the semi-auto shotgun in multiplayer. I run in shooting long range with a rifle and then when I get close enough I unleash the semi-auto. Thing is just brutal. And as Grouch said, the crumpling animations are fantastic.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

For those that think this is a stupid question, please bear with me but how that heck do you open up the game main missions? I have done 20 missions so far (the last one being "On Shaky's Ground") and I have been roaming around for the past 3 days (game time) just waiting for a mission to open up. Is there a way that I can open it up quicker or do I just have to play it through and wait for it?

I see that sometimes, a circle shows up on the map like strangers encounters, for destination spots.

There shouldn't be any point where you don't have access to any story missions. That never happened to me. The next mission after "On Shaky's Ground" should be "The Assault on Fort Mercer", and it's given by Marshall Johnson

Do I have to go to Armadillo to talk to the Marshall or something just show up on the map, telling what's next? I'm lost.

He should be over near Fort Mercer. If there's not an M on your map to signify where he is, I really don't know what to tell you. That never happened to me.

No there's no M on the map which is weird since I completed "On Shaky's Ground" successfully.

Are you absolutely sure? Try zooming in and out. You may just have missed it, or it may be blending with other icons. Also check every part of the map.

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Are there any plans for single-player DLC like they produced for GTAIV?

No, I just checked. There's absolutely no icon near Fort Mercer nor Armadillo or surrounding areas.

I'm an idiot. Yeah, I was right and there was no M on the map because there was a B on the map. I didn't complete two Bonnie McFarlane missions and once I completed them, guess what shows up on the map in Armadillo, the M.

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

So proud of that 100% completion achievement! I've never gotten 100% completion on a Rockstar game before. This one was actually fun trying to get unlike the GTA games where you have to do taxi missions, find hidden packages and what not.

Yeah I might go for 100% also before I trade it off. Finally beat the story with 92% complete, but the last part drags on so much I'm kind of sick of the game.

I agree though it's nice to have such structured ambient side missions unlike GTA games. Awesome game, put about 44 hours in.

That quote is from the May NPD thread. He asked for it!

Caveat: I've only put about five hours into Red Dead. That said, I find it one of the most completely unengaging experiences of any video game I've played in the past few years.

The entire design of a sandbox game is to give you interesting things to do in an open world, but I never felt like anything I was doing in Red Dead was really at all interesting. They're the same fetch quests, etc. that we've been doing for years. And actually I don't think that's a problem with Red Dead- I think it's a problem with sandbox games. They're a failed genre. They don't succeed at narrative, because they have an unresolvable conflict between a guided narrative experience and an open world where you can wander off and pick flowers for five hours. If they were just single-player MMOs I'd probably feel a lot more favorable to them.

It's actually kind of upsetting, because I do think that Rockstar has some of the best production values of any studio working in videogames today. The voice acting and art direction are superb.

This is not even touching on the horrible controls of the game.

Sorry for the unformed word vomit. I could be more eloquent about it, but I have to get ready to go out and drink.

I love how after you beat Agent Ross in the duel his body falls into the river full of bullets and the Red Dead Redemption title card comes up ending one of the most badass games I have ever played.
I'm at about 90% completion so I'm not quite done playing it yet. Does anyone know what breed of horse you get after the last mission? It's has a white face and a gray body, I can't really tell but it seems faster then the Hungarian Half-Breed I had before.
Wait, is this post for real? Are there two different endings or something?

Re: Official Larry C Red Dead Redemption thread!!!

Two of us did the "Free Roam" hideout missions last night in public. My co-op pal had to take out some "newcomers" that were trying to come in. I asked why and he said these guys will try and come in toward the end, take whoever is playing out and get the mission complete awarded to them. I was like...WTF...players actually do this. And sure enough three times last night someone was hanging around and right before the last bad guy was taken down just started shooting at us. Twice I was shot in the back but my pal chased them off or kept killing them.

I did try a random posse match and ended up listening to three players cuss each other out and watched them shoot each other over and over. So if any DVD Talkers get on for a posse and see me on invite me if you wish. Reminded me of the Halo days of the first Xbox with all the childess behavior being so bad we ended up playing among ourselves. I guess somethings never change.
