Did you remove the plastic wrap from the vents?

Seriously though, if you do have the latest update and things are still slow, try this:

Turn off your PS3.
Hold the power button until you hear three beeps (you'll hear one beep, then two beeps after that).
The recovery menu will pop up.
Select "restore file system" and follow the instructions after that.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I assume all my data will stay in tact doing so.

I believe that if you "restore" your system you lose all of your saved data.

That's what I would assume when you "restore" an entire "file system". AKA - format.

Here's the thing: there isn't a cache to clear, unless you're talking about the internet browser. I supposed you could try deleting your game data?

No, it resets a lot of settings, but it doesn't delete any of the data. I've done it before.

It checks and repairs missing or corrupt OS files.

That's good to know, but it's a terrible way to name that option.

Since this is a "PS3" thread but I don't have one yet does anyone know or heard of some possible good deals, buys, promotions for the system coming soon?

E3 is just under two months away. If anything major happens, it'll be then. Especially if Nintendo announces Wii-HD or Microsoft does something with their price.

I was looking at the Killzone Bundle but retailers are screwing the public with that price of around $360.00. If you look at the offical Sony Playstation site in the storefront it clearly shows that bundle at $299.00.

I will say in todays Sunday flyer Best Buy has the normal 160GB system with a $50.00 Gift Card. However here in our state (Tennessee) the sals tax is about 9.8% so there goes about $30.00 off the bat.

My Target had the Killzone bundle with a list price of $299. However, it is discontinued and out of stock.

Hey, I'm almost out of space on my 80gig PS3. I've already deleted a few "game data" files. Any other Options, like the easiest/cheapest way to swap out the drive with a bigger one and transfer everything over without problems?

Swapping the drive is easy, but you need an external HDD to do a backup and restore if you don't want to lose anything.

In the meantime, you could also delete some game installs if there's stuff on there that you don't play very often or at all.

I bet there are some more massive game data files on there you don't need. you dont lose anything by deleting them, you just need to re-install and re-update if you want to play again. Also, if you installed Home and never use it, that takes alot of space.

I recently went through and did this and managed to clear about 34 GB of space on my 80 GB unit. The one game install that I'm kind of afraid to delete is the Rock Band 1 install, because I don't want to possibly lose the exported songs. Sucks because it's taking up 10 GB. Anyone know whether or not it's safe to delete that one?

I think all your DLC is stored under RB1, so that's why it's so big, and no, you can't delete it.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Yeah, DLC is tied to the game file. For Rock Band, like Obi-Wan Jabroni said, the songs you bought for RB1 and 2 are attached to your RB1 file, while the RB3 specific tracks are tied to the RB3 file.

True, and even if you never played RB on the system, it will create the folder for it. (I assume it's really a folder under the hood, but you can't access files within it.)

Ah, thanks guys! I think I read something along those lines, but it wasn't spelled out as plainly as you guys just did. Really glad I didn't pull the trigger!
