Fat with original 60gb drive here too.I just updated yesterday (or Sunday) to 4.41. Glad I did, just in case.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Wow, I was planning on upgrading my fat 60gb to a 750 gb HDD over the weekend. I'll wait and see how this plays out first.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Yeah, I upgraded my original Slim to a 1 TB hard drive and all I'm getting is the sparkly background, no menu or icons. I can still boot to safe mode though, so it'll let me update the firmware when they come out with the fix. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

Will PS+ auto-install update?

They'd never auto install a system update. Those require agreeing to terms before installation.

From what I've been reading, the problem is with people who have upgraded their hard drives in their systems. That would seem to make sense as a lot of the people who have been bricked are using original fats, and have likely put in a bigger drive.
I'm using the original drive, so that would play into it as well. I'd still say there's no reason to risk it until they fix it regardless. This could be a real black eye for Sony if they don't get this shit fixed asap. Microsoft has to be loving the timing. Even more infuriating is the fact that this update was just a throwaway update that didn't really add anything. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Is it one of those minor updates that isn't required to access the store? Because I accessed the store fine last night.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I updated mine last night (not knowing about the issue beforehand), and I haven't bricked, yet. But all I did after the update was stream a video. How is it supposed to brick?
Not sure if it's related though, I did have some weird media-server issues after the update that I never had before. How is Sony going to fix bricked systems anyways? |

I'm seeing some reports of ppl getting bricked with original hard drives too. Over a hundred pages of pissed off people on Playstation support forum. And once you are bricked, you are really bricked. Reformatting, system restore, installing older firmware, nothing works.

I own a PS3 and applied the patch, no good will lost.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Mine went okay, luckily. It certainly wasn't worth an update just to turn off trophy notifications. They could have tacked that on at a different time to a different update.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
After the free month trial code for PS+ I got using the Home "quests" the other night, I just bought a full year from Best Buy for $40. I am, officially, in the game. :)
I should have done this a year ago... |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Ugh, hurry the crap up, Sony. I was really getting into Tomb Raider! Now I've gotta dust off the ol' 360 or something...

What is the best, most affordable, hard drive to buy for my PS3 to store all of the goodness that now awaits me?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Thanks for that tip!
I have another quick, possibly stupid, question. Actually a couple of questions... -Will the PS4 use the same sort of hard drives as the PS3? -Will the PSN store on PS4 be the "same" as the PS3? By that I mean, will all that we buy and download on PS3 be able to be played on the PS4? I'm not talking about PS3 disc based games, just the stuff bought from the PSN store. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I don't know about the HDD in the PS4 but I believe it's not compatible with anything currently on PSN; same as the XBOne with current XBLA games.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/21/445...-v4-45-bug-fix
A new PlayStation 3 system software update will be available June 27 to fix the "bricked" consoles caused by update v4.45 earlier this week, Sony Computer Entertainment announced today. The company released PS3 firmware v4.45 on June 18 to add notification options for PlayStation Network Trophies and "improve system stability." But reports of users unable to load the system's main menu soon inundated the PlayStation forums, and Sony pulled the update down while it investigated the problems and searched for a solution. "We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week," said Morgan Haro of the PSN community team today. "A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience." Haro added that Sony will provide details along with the new update on how users with bricked systems can implement the fix. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
So just to clarify, if I turn on my PS3 today I won't have to worry about a new update or bricking my console, right?
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
No, you have to wait for June 27th for the new version of the Firmware that won't potentially brick your system (for this issue).
