If the PS3 is your primary system I'd imagine it's pretty sweet. But with a 360, PS3, Wii and now WiiU, the unplayed pile is big enough as is that the PS3 doesn't see much action these days. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
All of the perks you folks list are great. I think what's happening is that I'm realizing many of the perks are, indeed, like coupons. And sometimes I buy things I don't need just because I have a coupon and I'm having a similar feeling now as when I come home from the grocery store with stuff that's great but not necessary or in the budget. So right now, I'm thinking that's $50 my family could use for necessity stuff and I kinda blew it.
Do they do partial refunds if this feeling doesn't go away? |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I don't know about refunds, but I would reccomend trying most or all of the free games. If you get even a few that you like over the course of your membership, it more than pays for itself. If you like Zelda, definitely give Darksiders a try.
EDIT: Heck, you should "buy" every game that you give you for free, even if you don't feel like downloading it at the moment (you don't have to), because if someday later while your membership is still active you feel like playing it, you can download it then, even if the "Free" offer has expired. Even Vita games, becuase who knows, one day you might buy one, and if you do, you would have an instant game library. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
So who all got the free 10.00 credit message from Sony? I was rather shocked I got one. Even with my PS+ subscription I'm not a very active PS3 gamer.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I will probably check later tonight.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I got one too. Nice!

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Where did you guys receive the message? Email or on the PS3?
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
You are suppose to receive it on the PS3.
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Any non-PS+ users get it? I'd risk a fire and a 96-hour update at this point from not having turned the thing on in a year. I remember putting in Game of Thrones S1 blus, but nothing since comes to mind.

Under "Messages" on your PS3

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Mother-effers didn't give me anything. :(
I was a Plus subscriber for a year, and then didn't renew last September. I was planning on getting a new sub. Not sure now. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I did get it after all. Sweet.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Nada for me.
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I received it! Only subscribed to plus at the beginning if January. For the lifetime of the account I've spent maybe $200 - $250.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I'm a former PS+ subscriber and I got the $10 credit. I have no idea what the criteria is, because I'm a very casual gamer who hasn't spent more than $100 total in the Playstation Store for the life of my PS3 and I haven't even been on the store in months.

I got this, too, and I'm glad I didn't delete it because I thought it was a phishing scam message.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I have one of the old 60GB PS3 models (it's backward compatible). I'm thinking about upgrading the hard drive. Is there anything I need to know in advance?
I was looking at this WD Blue 500GB HD (below). Almost all the reviews are positive. But there's 2-3 negative reviews that say it isn't compatible with the old PS3. They says it's slow and lags. Something about Advance Format Drive and hardware changes. Could it be those reviewers just got a bad HD. Or is it true this won't work well with the old fat 60GB model? http://www.amazon.com/Blue-500-Mobil...dp/B0037NYQ6Q/ |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
It should work fine with either the old or new models. I bought a 750 GB WD drive for around $65 and am very happy with it. Just use the back up utility (with that small a HDD, you can probably back up to a USB drive) then change it out and restore. Be careful not to strip the screws though; they're really tight on the phat model.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Also, make sure you format it properly so that the PS3 can see it for the transfer. There are free utilities. I think the one I used was called something like Swissknife.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Thanks for the info.
I was also looking at this Seagate HD. Both the Seagate and WD drives get good reviews for PS3 upgrades. Any idea if one's better than the other? Seagate - http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Moment...dp/B001R4BBL0/ WD - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0037NYQ6Q/ |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I think most of the internal drives I have bought in the past have been WD anI haven't had any problems I placed a 320GB WD in my 80GB fatty and haven't had any issues. I also added a 1TB WD internal drive in my desktop and it has been fine. I tend to see the WDs go on sale more often.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Get this Western Digital 750 GB drive. It's only $66.91 and it's fantastic. You'll appreciate the extra 250 GB of space some day.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I ended up getting the 500GB Seagate. It was around the same price as the 500GB WD and had a few more positive reviews regarding PS3 upgrades. Turns out the old 60GB drive inside my PS3 was also a Seagate.
Just put it in. The PS3 instantly recognized the new HD. Didn't need to upload any firmware. The whole process was very simple. Except for one thing. You guys weren't kidding about those fucking screws. Stripped two of them. Had to wrangle them out with needle nose pliers. |
