Just make sure if your ps3 breaks, you call in to support to de-authorize your old unit. You can only use downloads on 2 PS3s (down from 5), so you don't want to waste one on a broken unit. you can de-authorize manually, if your unit is still working.
I thankfully have no problem with download speed as i have all the free games downloaded it actually took longer to install the games then download them. now i just gotta focus on one game at a time so i can actually complete them as i normally buy one game at a time to play thru |

I downloaded Choplifter HD and 7% of Infamous 2 since last night
Edit : And Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown as it turns out; that game didn't install though. I just turned off my power saving settings. Maybe that will help. |

I couldn't believe that its was free for Playstation Plus only to find out I don't have enough room on my PS3 to download. Going to have to start deleting files.

I just turned off my power saving settings. Maybe that will help. I have Comcast at 22 Mbps, this is no faster then when I had DSL at 1.5 Mbps |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I didn't know anything about this month's offerings before logging in on Tuesday, so I was pretty excited. I'm so far behind current releases, that I haven't played any of these games yet. Hell, I'm still working on the free games offered 4 months ago from PS+, plus several from Goozex. PS+ has been worth every penny.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Well, for shit and giggles decided to download the Ratchet game late last night, that's a 14 GB file. In the meantime I played some online MP in my Xbox.
It took 3.5 hours for the whole game to download and install. Comcast, PS3 wired connection, 14 Mbps down, etc. I think I remember the wireless chip in the PS3 was not the best out there, some conflicts with some routers and that kind of stuff. Oh yeah and this morning I started the game and I had to download a 25 MB patch... It took less than 1 minute. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
And yeah, I remember having a lot of issues with the slowness of the PSN in the past, but all of them were in a wireless connection.

So are you guys recommending wired for download's from PSN then, is there any significant difference anyone tested it out. Don't have PSN as I only have 40GB fatty, can you hook an external hard drive via USB and use with it?
Actually its a WD my passport 320GB can I swap with the PS3 HDD? |

No you cannot hook an external up and install stuff to that. You can replace the harddrive with any laptop 2.5" drive I do believe. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I have two PS3s. One with a wired hookup and one wireless. The wireless is definitely the slower of the two, but they are both still slow. My 360 is at least twice as fast downloading.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Does anyone have a link about the best transfer process and to replace hard drive on fat PS3? Everything I search on goole seems to be 2 year old and Western Digital site is no help.
I have a Western Digital 320gb Passport I want to replace the 40gb with, not sure if it's compatable and no screws on the case and don't wanna pull up the rubber bumper and find it won't go back |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I don't know, I think this may have something to do as said earlier about the ps3's network card and it's interface with routers. I have no problems so I don't know if it's a server issue, unless I happen to be close to a server. I don't know where they are so I can't confirm. It also may be isp's throttling the data to psn as it does seem some isp's have more trouble than others (comcast). I'm on Time Warner and do just fine.
I wouldn't put it past (total conspiracy theory here that is probably not true) MS to pay isp's to throttle psn downloads and let xbl downloads through without. |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
I have a 40GB fatty (with an upgraded 250 GB hd) that's wired with a static IP. My download speeds are great.
I downloaded 4 games (infamous2, LBP2, ratchet and clank, and Lara croft) on Tuesday afternoon as soon as the store updated. They were all done in about 4 hours total. I would say the slow speeds people are experiencing are either ISP or router related. I don't think the PS3 hardware is what's causing the problem. Edited to add: I'm on Comcast |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Right now I would say the PSN is more "prone" to have network issues (compared to Xbox Live). But yeah, the issues can be anywhere, the network card in the PS3, newer PS3s have better wifi cards than older ones, your wifi router, your ISP, and yeah sometimes Sony servers too, although that's not too common lately.

I was assuming he was going to take it out of the enclosure. Although, I don't know if that will work for any external drive.

You can't use a USB drive to replace your PS3's internal drive. You have to buy a 2.5" laptop drive (any one will do). Then you can follow the procedure in the video above. You can use your passport drive to back up your existing HDD and then restore it to the new drive after you've done the replacement though.
Correct, I was going to take it out of the enclosure as I don;t use it like I thought I would. The Harddrive in the Passport case won't work in the PS3, idea's where to find out what type of drive it actually is? Model is WDBAAA3200ABK-00 |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
Most of the time it varies. Meaning, the same model uses different kind of hard drives.
I haven't checked lately but, are there a lot of incompatibilities with current hard drives? I thought most would work. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!
2.5 inch SATA Laptop drives are necessary. size matters not.
