Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Wait, so the credit card information is sent in clear text? So are people at risk only if they transmitted CC information while the hackers were in the system (begging the question, how long were they in there undetected), or is that just another loophole and this was really some kind of database hack like I originally thought? Also, was this information out in January, because I certainly didn't know about it.

I also hope that chat log bit is fake because that also has the security code, which they said was absolutely not compromised, in the open.

You can't expect them to know every hole in every program, half of which they probably aren't the ones who made.

Saying they should have been unhackable is foolish, nothing is unhackable given the correct talent.

Now, I'm not saying that they handled this well by any means, but thinking that there is any computer program/network that can't be hacked given the right knowledge is a fallacy. I remember one point where they said the ps3 was impossible to hack, it was hacked. I remember an article where nintendo said the 3ds was unhackable with their new technology, it was hacked on release day.

There really is no stopping it, if someone wants to get in your system and they are smart enough, they will, and there's likely nothing you can do about it.

If it's plain text then yeah, they need some kind of fine for that. No encryption on credit card information is pretty atrocious.

Hulu Plus sent out emails offering subscribers a free week ($2 credit) due to PSN downtime. But the credit isn't automatic. You have to click on the link inside the email to activate the credit. So if you're a Hulu+ subscriber, don't delete that email.

I can't believe that there are actually people defending ANYTHING about how Sony handled this entire situation. Ridiculous.

Is it? Aside from exposing the personal and financial information of 75 million people in plain text, what have they done wrong? Let's focus on the positives, and not forget that PS3 is still the only system that has giant enemy crabs.

Fucking nightmare for me as I used my bank debit card with PSN. I got tired of buying PSN cards and unable to get a real credit card.

Even worse, my bank is out of state which will make it difficult to cancel the card and get a new one.

I'm not mad that they got hacked as it is part of being online, it happens. I'm just a bit upset about how they handled it. That leaves a lot to be
desired.

There IS a website, unfortunately it was taken down also, so you can't log in there either.

This is god damn ridiculous.
Unless they target you with and attempt to get your SSN via a fraudulent email or phone call, the chances of that are pretty minimal I think as I believe that info is needed for everything.

Alright, I think it’s time for a thread title change for this massive fuck up.

So I only used my credit card once to buy something years ago on PSN (PJM), is there any way of checking to see which credit card I used at that time or if it’s still on file anywhere? Because I’m not even sure at that time that there was an option of storing your CC info for future purchases.

Not until psn comes back up, the site is down along with psn. Only option is to see if you can find your email receipt from then as mentioned earlier as it will have the last 4, but that won't tell you if it got saved or not.

I just discovered this thread existed last night. I only use my PS3 for blu-rays and streaming. Never played a game on it. I figured something was wrong with the PSN since I was having some problems getting into Netflix. Thankfully I can still stream movies. I'm glad I never gave them my credit card information.

I checked some of the emails from my PSN purchases and didn't see any sign of credit card information...

I think pretty much every local news station had this story featured last night, so the masses are going to start panicking whether or not they got an email.

you need the email from adding funds to your wallet not from your purchases. Search for subject line:

Funds have been added to your wallet

If one of the previous posts is true, can you say that:

- If you haven't added any funds this year (i.e. used your CC for a PSN transaction), you MAY be safe?

12. There seems to be some games that cannot be played even offline?
Some games may require access to PSN for trophy sync, security checks or other network functionality and therefore cannot be played offline.
I know the capcom final fight PSN downloadable has some kind of DRM that prevents it from being played offline, but trophy syncs, really?
