Re: Borderlands

It's not difficult so much as varied. You're constantly running into guys immune to the last elemental weapon you using, so you want to make sure you've got a good cycle of equipped options.

I've heard that it's best played when your over level 45 or so - I think the people saying that it's difficult are at lower levels.

Re: Borderlands

I was in for a surprise as I set out for The Secret Armory of General Knoxx with a level 50 character, because as beefy as I thought my Siren was, she couldn't stand up to what was waiting for me at T-Bone Junction and beyond. Basically, I died. All of the time. I went from having around four million dollars in my bank account down to under a million before I even gained my first level in the DLC -- the hefty cost of respawning in the wilds of Pandora. And that's what made this whole thing so odd.

The expansion -- which is intended to give you some more mileage out of your maxed-out characters by raising the level cap to 61 -- continues from the end of the Borderlands story, so playing it before finishing the game proper is not advised. I finished my second playthrough with a level 50 character, so to start this add-on and run into such a wall, such constantly merciless opposition, was pretty perplexing.

Re: Borderlands

I've died a bit with my level 50 character. They definitely raised the difficulty, but so far I haven't found it impossible or anything. I like that the troops now have different elemental strengths so you need to have several elemental options handy and maybe a non elemental gun as backup.

I've played it a couple of hours and I'm finding it well worth the cost. Still haven't hit 51 though. Close, but not there yet.

Re: Borderlands

Thx to glassdragon for hooking me up with the viral and platinum trophies last night!

I'll get Knoxx today after work. Could you, in theory, level up to 61 before starting Knoxx if you have it installed? I ask because I have a lvl 50 hunter and haven't played Zombie Island yet. I'm waiting to play them both co-op, and I'll play Zombie Island first if it will make Knoxx more palatable.

Chew, you up for tonight?

Re: Borderlands

i decided to level up my 50 Siren before attempting the DLC. I raised her to level 53 last night. Best way to do some quick leveling(if you are doing playthrough 2.5) is fighting level 51 Skagzilla over and over. He gives like 45,000 exp each time he goes down. I am sure level 51 Mothrakk gives even more. I will start the DLC at level 55 I think.

Why would you do that? The new DLC is designed to be started at around Level 50. So instead you would grind a single mob over and over? Seems like an easy way to get sick of the game.

I'm guessing Zombie-only, right?

There's no way Knoxx will both be available and downloaded before 7.

Re: Borderlands

Except that I'd like to get the level-cap installed first...so I'd like to try to get it downloaded at least.

If not, we should just work on leveling you up to 50 in the second playthrough IMO.

I'm having people over Friday night, so that's out, but a Saturday morning might be in order.

I'm not looking to "grind" at all. I just don't want to waste the XP from Zombie Island since I haven't played it yet...so I'll wait to play it until I get Knoxx loaded. Whatever level I am after Zombie Island, that's where I'll start Knoxx.

From everything that's going around it sounds like you definitely start out Knoxx behind. Even if you are Lvl. 50, you start out fighting 52-53 standard level enemies.

Grinding a bit doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Re: Borderlands

It looks like I'll have to vary up my elemental weapons a bit more.

I usually use fire weapons, keep my bird on acid and keep one non-elemental weapon equipped. I never found electrical to terribly effective against anything, where caustic seems to be effective against anything that isn't caustic itself. I also just love the effect of acid and fire on enemies.

So I guess I'll still keep my Fearsome Volcano and my Hellfire SMG handy, but maybe I'll keep a caustic and electrical weapon on the quick select as well.

Is electrical significantly better than caustic against shields?

Well I have done alot of reading on other forums and most people suggest leveling up a little before doing the content(if you are on playthrough 2.5). I have 100+ hours in the game with two level 50 characters so if I was going to get sick of the game I would have been sick of it long before now.

I agree 100%. If you are level 50 and go up against a level 52 superbad you will get ripped to shreds. I am just not a gamer who wants to die every few seconds. I don't have tons of gaming time so I don't want to waste it beating my head against the wall. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good challenge(i have finished many games on their highest difficulty levels), but I think it would be too frustrating to go up against enemies 2-3 levels above mine.

Thank you for helping me with the duel ones.

Anyone up for the Moxxie trophies? I still need all of those.

Or just play Knoxx on your first playthrough. Enemies are in the mid to high 30s. After you beat that you will probably be around level 52 or so and then it would be easier to go through Knoxx on the second playthrough and hit 61.

Re: Borderlands

Question: do you need to just have the Knoxx DLC installed to get the level cap raised? Or do you need to actually play it?

I (we) haven't hit the Zombie DLC yet.

Re: Borderlands

We took down Knoxx yesterday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised at a bunch of new quests opening up. This DLC is positively huge!

The bit immediately after taking down Knoxx is a blast, btw! Hopefully you've got a friend or 3 to play with for that.

One more question

Has anyone playing the Soldier class activated the turret's guided missile? I have two skill points applied there and didn't see any indication of a missile during my playtime last night.

How obvious is it? Maybe it is working but it's not as dramatic as I'm expecting?

My son's soldier has that maxed out, and you can definitely see it.

I'm a big fan of finding the atributes you like and maxing them out.
