Yes and no. These music games are always going to offer filler songs regardless of their actual or perceived quality... I actually think that list is pretty decent.

Best Buy is offering a microphone with preorder now. Are they bringing back all of the instruments again?

It's a shit talking mic for when the crowd starts booing you and holding up signs, you can yell back at them and tell them to fuck off.

They brought back scored vocals. There's no drums though.

I wonder if you'll have to pay FCC fines with your microtransaction "Hero Cash" in order to advance in your career mode.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

In case the game wasn't begging you to buy it, there's an Eminem song on the disc!

Also, competitive face-off mode isn't available at the onset. You've got to get to "Level 10" first, whatever the fuck that means. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you also had to level up to unlock any online components, but I can't find a source, so maybe I'm just imagining it. I wouldn't put it past Acti though.

I will likely pick this up when it hits the 10 bucks close-out price. Like I did with the last 5 GH games.

Wow, I've heard of two of those bands. I must be getting old.

You might've heard "The Wire" even if you don't recognize the name Haim. That one was pretty inescapable for a while there. Gerard Way fronted My Chemical Romance if that ups your quotient too.

I'm not doing too much better, though! Of those ten bands/performers, I'm familiar with six. I feel like I've come across Passenger, which'd bump it up to seven, but I don't wanna count someone just because I think I've seen a name flash across the ID thingie on Sirius XM. I'm completely unfamiliar with Orianthi, 36 Crazyfists, and Tonight Alive for sure.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

That Passenger song was in a Budweiser Super Bowl ad, i'm sure a lot of folks have heard it without knowing the artist. I know Orianthi, not only from that song, but because she was a guitarist for Michael Jackson before he died.

Passenger sounds vaguely familiar, but probably because of the ad.

Nope. You gotta remember I'm in KY. We're about 18 months behind everyone else on pop music and decades behind everyone else in other matters (Kim Davis )

Those last three words are a pretty unnecessary qualifier in that sentence.

Naw, I've also never heard of either song, commercials or otherwise. They're pretty bland on top of that.

But I do know Pearl Jam, Lamb of God, and 36 Crazyfists, though not those particular songs.

Not really, I meant it literally as she was the guitarist on the last tour he was doing and shown in the movie This Is It. Not that she was just a random guitarist sometime during his lifetime. I should have said "right" before he died. I just remember a video floating around of her playing with MJ before she had the one hit pop single that's included in Guitar Hero.

As for Passenger... the commercial was pretty big and got a lot of press, plus tons of hits on YouTube. I always chuckle at how detached from modern pop music that DVD Talk is. Old farts

Although honestly, other then Pearl Jam I wasn't that familiar with anyone else either other then the two I mentioned, and knowing who Gerard Way is.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

*crickets*

I might give it a look-see somewhere way down the line, but unless the reviews are absolutely stellar, I can wait a long, long time for anything Guitar Hero related.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Also, the review embargo is up at 9am ET the day of release, so that's a good sign.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I don't think you can read anything into that. It's Activision's policy to have a review embargo before release. They do it with all their games now.
Like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, for example....

I think I last played GH3 and it sucked compared to Rock Band. I'll be passing on this.
