Actually, I bet Neversoft is dumb enough to think they are singing about drinking bread.

Neversoft wouldn't censor songs, that is all Activision.

Those of you who bought GH5 and are planning on getting Band Hero, don't forget that GH5 came with a $5 coupon.

It's not their decision. This is what a NS employee told me.

Yeah..but isn't that like saying cutting anything from a movie isn't a director's decision? I mean, there are things that have to be done to get the rating required. If that comes from Activision in order to fit the rating they want it doesn't really make them the "bad guy", so to speak, does it? Isn't that all just down to the ratings system?

Well if you want to discuss it philosophically there are all kinds of directions you can go in. Personally I would have upped the rating so that nothing would ever be censored. Then these kiddie version of the music games would actually have a reason to exist.

The fact that the edits are not applied with any consistency undermines the argument that there is no judgement call being made. For example (in RB DLC), the word 'marijuana' being cut out of 'Gouge Away' by The Pixies but the word 'cocaine' being uncensored in 'Casey Jones' by The Grateful Dead makes absolutely no sense. You can also compare '2 Minutes To Midnight' in GH5 vs. RB DLC. Maybe the standards are stricter when putting something on-disc, but if so then that song was a poor choice for putting on the disc. That song is an example of something which was censored for apparently no good reason at all, since there is nothing offensive in that song in the first place.

I guess my statement is more one of sure it's not their decision, but they don't have a choice.

Aren't there songs in Rock Band that have some censored words? And same with Lego Rock Band? I don't follow that thread since I don't own Rock Band 2, but I love the hate directed specifically at Activision/Neversoft Doesn't seem like a big surprise that Band Hero, which is supposed to be aimed towards a younger audience would follow suit.

you're missing out on some great tunes and a better engine to play them with.

Honestly I've never understood people being upset about any kind of censoring of songs in the game. It's not like it is enough to really put you off the fun of playing. And as far as singing goes, I've never heard anything censored in the game that didn't get sang by the person on the mic. Usually even worse.

I'm pretty much over the music genre outside of sometimes playing with a group of friends, so I don't really care enough to buy more games. I just happen to pick up some Guitar Hero games since I can get them cheap but I hardly play them. And i've played Rock Band and Rock Band 2 (and don't care for the Beatles music) and I don't feel like there's a big difference as someone that just casually plays a few tunes on guitar (I don't sing either) so watching the hate for Activision over things that Rock Band/Harmonix is also guilty of cracks me up.

So far I'm only playing solo on the drums, so I notice when something is edited out of songs I know well. Semi-Charmed Life on the Van Halen game is noticeably different, and it sounds like it was rerecorded and not well either.

I finally got around to playing the Van Halen game, by the way, and while the interface is pretty basic and there's no real gameplay in terms of the career mode, I have to say that I've been having a blast playing VH while GH5 songs tend to leave me feeling a little cold.

Maybe the problem here is that it's a very well-known song, and the word is in the refrain, so it gets repeated (or muted) several times throughout the song. If it was one little word in the verses, it wouldn't be nearly as objectionable.

My feeling is that if they couldn't use the song without censoring, it should have been left out. There are many, many other songs that could have been used instead.

RB edited out "bitch" from KISS's "100,000 Years" recently. Not to mention what they did with "Master Exploder". And say! What about Fletch?

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Off the top of my head I know that Tenacious D's songs and You Oughta Know are censored in RB, although the Cleveland Steamer reference in "Rock Your Socks Off" got to stay, which always makes me laugh.

And if someone picks up Band Hero anytime soon, can you play Mr. Roboto and tell me if it's a re-record or not?

I used a free rental coupon on it this morning (and got the manual, so I'll get to do the export to GH5, whoo hoo!!)....

I'll let you know if it is a new version once I play it later tonight....I hope I know Styx well enough to pick it out if it is!

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

It would appear that Mr. Roboto is indeed the original track. And now I want the game. For one freakin' song.

Does it do anything new and different, or is it essentially GH5 with a family-oriented setlist?
