I'm keeping the code off of the back of the booklet from my rental copy. The way I see it, if I don't, someone else will, and if no one does, it's wasted.

Transferred my preorder to Halo 3:ODST instead and just rented this... it's alright so far. I think the challenges are kind of a cool idea and I like how they made it easier to switch between guitar/bass and just get right into playing...but the songs are just alright and I still definitely prefer the RB2 engine... Fairly OK but glad I didn't buy it (no van halen deal in canada).

Add me to the list that wouldn't have bought this except for the Van Halen deal, along with the 10% ECA, the $10 Amazon credit and the $5 MP3 credit. I passed on Smash Hits and Metallica until they reach the clearance bin and haven't lost any sleep. I would have done the same on GH5 and GH:VH but the above was worth it for me to go ahead and get it.
All I really care about is TB:RB right now. The world will stop once it comes in next week as far as I'm concerned (with college football being the one exception of course).

It seems like an extension of GHWT, period. There are challenges for songs, which is kinda cool I guess, and some new band stuff, but I don't play band on GH so it's irrelevant to me. RENT this game, grab the VH code, and be happy.

Is it even possible to rent the game and snag the code for the VH game? Someone said earlier that even after registering for your copy online, you still have to print something out to send in and include both a sticker from GH 5 as well as a copy of the receipt from purchase.

I just rented GH5. I just put the code in and no dice on getting VH for free.

Yeah, I just got it in from UPS (talk about taking release date delivery to the end) and was looking at the instructions.
Be sure you don't toss the sticker that is on the plastic on the case. I usually throw that away with the plastic but this time you definitely need it.
As someone else mentioned, there is a $5 coupon in the game that looks like you can use at any retailer and it doesn't expire until 3-31-10. I am sure Target will have Metallica or Smash Hits clearanced by that time.
It also mentions something about a free stickersheet with your unique code.
