Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Also, when you first boot up GH5, there's a 290(!!) meg patch so that the GH:WT DLC will be compatible. This adds in the "challenges" and "band moments" features.
I believe this is a required patch, even if you don't have any DLC.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
I rented it this morning and it didn't give me a patch option at all
That said, man, I haven't played a guitar game for a couple months with the exception of the KISS DLC a few weeks ago...man am I rusty, lol.

So it's Courtney Love's fault for signing away the likeness rights, and not the fault of the company for actually making the ridiculousness? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm no Love fan either...

But that shouldn't even have to be said, IMHO. I think it shows the lack of respect Neversoft/Activision/Whoever has for the artists and music as opposed to the game.

I guess I was wrong. It's not a patch to the game, but if you want to play any of your GH:WT DLC, it will prompt you for the update.

Yeah, I just saw that Shag...There are two, the first let's you import DLC, the second is a GHWT compatability update...which takes forever, BTW, so don't do the update if you plan on jammin', wait until you're done.

So did we ever get definitive confirmation about which songs from GHWT were NOT exportable? Sorry if this has been covered here, but I couldn't find it.

Isn't the point of downloading the songs to have them support the new features? Why in the world does there need to be a separate patch for this?

Well, 42 minutes to DL the WT update, so I checked the list and it's only 35 songs??

Spoiler:
Personally, I'm finding it hard to be worked up over this. Who gives a shit if Johnny Cash can play drums in your band? I'm trying to care, but can't. It seems more offensive that Cobain can be selected as right handed than anything else.
I also seem to recall people getting upset that Neversoft created the Tool venue with the weird visuals and Tool songs could only be played there. That certainly showed a lot of respect for the artist, but they only seemed to catch flack for it.

I know it's been a while since he offed himself, but I seem to recall him actually being the singer for some band for a few years.

Not to mention, that 14 year old kid has no idea who Cobain is, outside of a dead singer from a band. Which like to most of us, is pretty much what we view some of our parents rock/pop idols.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Count me in as another person that was a GH fan and today could not be more underwhelmed by GH5. I'm certainly not overwhelmed enough to pay full price for it.
I want to see what they are going to do in the coming months with DLC. If they continue to churn out 3 lame tracks per week then its hopeless. Sure in the next few days/weeks there will be tons of DLC offerings since its the latest and greatest but in 3 months lets see whats doing.

I was tempted to pick this up when i was just at Best Buy but I decided to hold off too, at least until it's cheaper. Also waiting to see what the veterans around here think of it.
No plans to get RB: Beatles either. The first fall in a while I likely won't be buying any new version of either game.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
I've played 21 songs so far and there's good & bad. One thing I like is that they show the length of each song, and you can sort by length. I was really into Come Down, Woman From Tokyo, Play/Funky Music, and Under Presure. Lots of songs I never heard of, and it kinda feels (to me) that just like GHWT, the bad are real bad. Also, my 2 cents worth, they need to stop putting the Beatie Boys in these games. I'm also getting sick of seeing the new Metallica album in my songlist for every game, lol.

I really like everything so far but the setlist. I am sorting it by song ABC and Blue Orchid is the only one I allowed to save a score.
And agreed on Metallica, wish they would deactivate that.

Only review I can find so far, although it reads more like a preview:

That's obviously thrown up to be the first review out there...it says NOTHING about the gameplay and nothing outside of what we've all read in the promotional documents.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Is it that they declined to provide review screeners or that they *DID* but rigidly insisted on an embargo until release day?
If it's the latter, is it because of a lack of faith in the finished product? If it's the former, is it because they had a host of last-minute bugs/additions/reanimations/etc. that wouldn't allow for screener copies to reflect the finished product?
I'm intruiged, but I haven't seen my pants in days.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
I think ACT knew it was basically the same game prettied up with new songs. So the reviews will be mediocre or just above average. With the economy, and the end of the year coming soon that bad press may stall any sales so they quashed it.
That and the fact that they are going BACK to guitar only kits and moving band stuff to GH:BH just makes this even more confusing to those that bought GH:WT.
