Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
RE5 has pretty good coop if you can stand the controls.
For 4 player split screen vs or online play, Warhawk is pretty tough to beat. It's not a coop campaign (there is no campaign), but you can play cooperatively online. It's a fun time with 4 players on a big screen HDTV. It's also something like $16 at Newegg.com Great choice on Burnout. For DLC, I recommend Big Surf Island and the GT Nighthawk and nothing else. Edit: If you and your buddy want to play together, the Party Mode DLC might be worth your while. |

just an update since getting my system. It came with Uncharted, which was awesome. I finished that last night. I also have been playing a lot of Burnout Paradise.....although I need to figure out the custom soundtrack. I also got Dark Sector (it was $10 new and figured I'd give it a whirl someday) and Fallout:3.....which I watched a friend play for a while......I don't know if I'll start that any time soon. I really want GTA:IV although co-op games that a friend and I can play at the same time (in the same room on the same system) would be best. I don't think Ghostbusters has co-op, which is too bad since it looks like a trip. Any recommendations for co-op games? I do plan on getting the new Tiger Woods when my Sims rainchecks come through....
Resistance2 & Killzone2, both have co-op, but not for the standard campaign, so if you prefer playing through the story co-op, then start with Resistance Fall of Man. |

BTW, I highly suggest normalizing your MP3s before copying them to the PS3. I use a program called MP3 Gain to do this: http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/index.php. If you just copy/rip them as is, it will be annoying when songs vary wildly in volume, especially since the sound effects volume stays constant and will drown out softer tracks. Recent CDs have this practice of squishing the dynamics, making the tracks as loud as possible (search for loudness war). I found that increasing the target volume for that program to about 95 worked better than the default 89. For serious listening, I don't normalize the tracks, but for a game it's fine (and a must, IMHO). |

I've really started using the memory ports on my PS3 lately. I still can't stand the fan noise though.

You might want to put the tracks you want to use for Burnout in a special folder. Unfortunately, I think you have to do this every time you play. And, if you're sick of that Guns 'N Roses song, hit the mute button every time you load the game. :)

I will probably get some of the Burnout download stuff....party mode and the island. I got my 9 sims card rainchecks yesterday and registered them at ea. I now have to decide whether I want Tiger Wood or if I should hold out for the Beatles game. I picked up Ghostbusters yesterday. It's ok so far....nothing that great. I did want to run around in the world, but it's not really working.... |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
From EA, I'd be looking at Orange Box, Dead Space, Rock Band 2 (or Beatles) and Mirror's Edge.
Other games that you have to check out: LittleBigPlanet, Warhawk, Fallout 3, Bioshock, and GTA IV...maybe Infamous. |

My PS3 has zero fan noise. Is it something you PS3 always had, or did the noise come later? I have a 60GB BC one though. |

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Yup, mine is a 60gb and the fan kicks up to near "early 360"-levels pretty quick.
But I'll take full functionality and moderate noise over gimped and quiet. |
Also 60gb version here. My fan was "tolerable" until I installed a bigger harddrive, now it gets pretty noisy. I don't notice much while gaming, but I do with movies.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Same here, but mine is in a cabinet with a closed front, so it's not a bother.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Are there any PS3 games other than Warhawk that allow multi-player over internet plus guests? Halo is the only other game I know like this on the 360.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Just a quick note, which may mean absolutely nothing. I have a Wal-Mart card. Just got the monthly statement. In addition to the usual bunch of junk included in the envelope, there was a special offer from Wal-Mart for the PS3. It said "Spend $250 or more on a PS3 system at Walmart and pay no interest for 12 months." You have to use a Walmart Discover or Walmart Credit Card to get in on this "deal." Offer valid through September 30th.
I thought this was odd, since you can't help but spend more than that if you're getting a PS3. But I assumed it was just some sort of weird wording or marketing or whatever. However, in light of the slim news, perhaps the older models will be getting reduced? That seems like a humongous cut, but maybe the older models will get some sort of "clearance" prices? Probably nothing, but just thought I'd contribute. |

I figure I'll have to live with some of the noise to increase the life of my PS3. |

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
My PS3 gets loud but only when my ac isn't on or my house is at like 75 degrees plus. It seems any temp below that and there is no real noise. I have the 20 gig MGS grey edition.

Firmware 3.0 rumors and news: http://www.vg247.com/2009/06/26/ps3-...le-audio-more/
VG247 has learnt that PS3 Firmware 3.0, “a completely new system” for the console, is to release pre-Christmas with a raft of major feature updates. The software upgrade has been described to us as “a huge overhaul”, and was compared to NXE “in some respects”. The before-rumoured reputation system will be included. We were told that, “A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for… game applications. “There will be a new API available to so the user can… allow users and also obtain users’ reputation. ”A “grief reporting system” will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input. Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you’ll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix. There’s more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the release, a move likely to bring big smiles to the audio heads in the crowd. We’ve been told a lot more on this, but you’ll just have to wait. Rest assured, 3.0 will be significant. Just remember where you heard it first. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
There’s more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the release, a move likely to bring big smiles to the audio heads in the crowd. But it's hard to take a publication seriously when they use the word "learnt". God I hope that's intended to be ironic. |

They're British. They put the letter U in places God didn't intend.
