In the last two weeks, I couldn't go online during Xbox Live maintenance a few weeks back and everything I tried to download last week for demos gave me errors.

Since I'm supposed to "get what I pay for", where do I go to ask for my (Gold) partial refund?

XBL - has never been down when I've wanted to play or download something.
PSN - the one time I decide I want to download something, is down.

So if Live does go down, it's probably in the wee hours of the morning. Not at 9am.

So I guess you expect these companies to get with you on your schedule in the future?

I've never noticed the PSN being down (only owned a ps3 for a couple months). I like that I can download a bunch of demos in the background. Good thing, too, since I didn't realize that Ninja Gaiden Sigma was the same game as the standard xbox one (story wise).

Still down.

At least I save $10, I guess.

And? Actually Tuesday is a big day for Live to be down because of Marketplace content.

My point was that whenever I've needed to jump on Live, it's been there. I haven't experienced any outages.

So far, my online experience with the PS3 has been terrible (although I love the system itself). I've only used it a handful of times - one time I couldn't reply to messages from friends for some weird reason, and now today I can't get into the online store to buy a game.

I'm pretty sure it's been happening since the firmware upgrade, it just took me a few times to notice because I don't always need to reassign the controller ... some games don't care if it's in slot 2. I guess it could be some other random thing that's making it work, but the firmware is the only thing I can think of that's changed.

I assume you're talking about the new 2.8 firmware (which I don't have yet.) To the other people commenting about how it doesn't work for you, do you have 2.8 yet?

I can't remember which version I have, but I've been online and in the PSN store yesterday and wasn't required to update firmware (which is always the case when they release a new version). I updated my firmware 2 weeks ago.

It isn't always the case. Several firmware updates weren't required. 2.8 was one of them. I was never prompted to update and was able to access the store just fine. I updated on my own.

Guess I'll have to try that tonight then.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet in the flame-war, but apparently PSN has been down for maintenance. Only SCEA forgot to tell we Yanks:

The PlayStation Network is currently undergoing maintenance, which should last until 19:25 tonight. You will not be able to sign into the PlayStation Network during this time. However, if you are already signed into the PSN, either on any of our sites or on your PlayStation 3, you should remain signed in until you choose to sign out.
So the European issues should be cleared up momentarily, if they aren't already. As for North America, the PlayStation Network should be up and functioning now with the exception of the PlayStation Store itself, which Sony informed us is currently undergoing maintenance and will return shortly.

The PlayStation Store is down momentarily for maintenance. The rest of PlayStation Network (PlayStation Home, Friends Lists, Life With PlayStation, trophies, online gaming, etc) are up and running.
North American PlayStation 3 owners can always check the official website to check on the status of PSN. As of a few minutes ago the Network Status indicator was flashing between red and green with every page refresh I would initiate, but it now seems to have settled on green, the preferred color of network users everywhere.

Thanks to everyone for sending in tips!

Maybe one of these next few fw upgrades they'll get a clue.

did the latest firmware actually fix this because I've now noticed the controller I turn the system on with defaults to controller 1 now even with the GH dongle pluged in

It's starting as controller 2 for me, but I think it used to be controller 3. I have the Nyko Frontman guitar connected. The arcade stick still defaults to controller 1.

Maybe it's now checking for certain devices such as the GH adapter and moving those down as it finds them.

Beats me. We have members who run 360 blogs and podcasts, and I don't see them getting called names or being attacked for no reason.

At any rate, it's not like that dude's opinion matters. I was just wondering whether he had a point or was just dropping in to crap on the PS3.

The irony, of course, is that I'm a complete whore for Nintendo.

I've only seen your name in threads defending the PS3. And I didn't know it was against the rules to call someone a "fanboy".

Either way, the store was up when I got home. No big deal. I saved the $10 though, I'll spend it on The Punisher on Thursday...if the store is up, that is.

Oh, I think I might post in a few other threads. I think what you mean is that you saw me call someone out for what I saw as console bashing in ONE thread. I just like games, and all the sniping anti-system nonsense gets under my skin a bit, especially when the PS3/360 are so much alike in terms of capabilities and content.

I have absolutely nothing against the 360, and even if I did, I wouldn't drop in the 360 thread to crap on it. I don't know if it's against "the rules" to call someone names and blatantly imply that they are stupid, but it's absolutely rude.

I'm glad it worked out. PSN is pretty much always up, and if you're going to do an update, Tuesday morning seems like as good a time as any. :)

I think it was more the condescending tone that rubbed me, at least, in the wrong way. "Let me put it in words you can understand..."

Plus the complaint was pretty minor. I'd have been on your side if you said something like "I just wanted to download one thing and the stupid system made me do an upgrade that took hours." :)

I previously hadn't upgraded to 2.80 since it wasn't a required update. Thanks to Walker Boh and others who mentioned it possibly fixing the problem, I manually updated a little bit ago. I've got a bunch of RB instruments plugged in as well as a Buzz Quiz receiver, and sure enough the controller I turned on the PS3 with was assigned Controller 1!

Not trying to defend L&O but if you really have a complain contact the mods about Tarantino's post. You can even post that in Feedback and someone should be able to help you.

On topic, I've never had any issue with the controllers. I only have the Blu-ray remote though. And 2 game controllers. And never have to scramble trying to setup my game controller as #1.

Yeah, the problem mostly comes when you have a controller plugged into a USB port, like Rockband equipment, Buzz controllers, or in my case fighting game sticks. I'm glad they fixed it, hopefully it didn't break anything else.

They did make it easy to change the controller number, though... I think you can just press the PS button to reassign. Haven't quite found an easy way to do the same on the 360, though.
