I really hope they give us some customization of the XMB soon. I'd like to be able to hide stuff I won't use, like Facebook, and get rid of the extra PS Store links.

Never seen those FPS Freek nubs before. That's kinda cool. Do they work well? Do you personally use them for both the PS3 and 360 controllers or just the PS3? And do you use them just for FPS or on all games?

I do have the "Real Triggers" and highly recommend them.

I use one FPS nub on the right analog on both systems. It obviously raises the control a bit (moreso on the PS3, at least it feels like it) so it takes some time getting used to but I can't play without them now. My battery ran out on my 360 controller the other day so I grabbed my second controller (sans nub) to get back into the game. I couldn't do it. I had to pop the battery out and go back to the 'Freek' Controller. Going back to a pad without one it is immediately noticeable how 'tight' the analogs are. It's kinda weird to describe.

I have no idea why they work so well but they do. There seems to be more precision in shooters. It's almost as if being taller makes the analog freedom of movement more loose. Picture it as a physical product that improves your aiming sensitivity that you normally adjust with a slider in game. I leave it on my controller(s) and use it for everything. I did notice my precision in Zuma improved greatly as well. Other games it's harder to tell. However you don't really need one for the left analog since character movement needn't be so precise. On the PS3, it's just nice to have that concave nub vs. the stock slippery one.

Sounds like a ringing endorsement, but it comes with a caveat, price. There is a coupon on CAG right now to get them for $10 but with shipping you are still looking at $14 for two tiny pieces of plastic. If you only have one console, you only need one nub so you're looking at $14 for one and having a spare. It's insanely expensive. They should be $5 like the Real Triggers.

And avoid the Speed Freeks they sell on the site. Total fucking waste of money.

Interesting. I think you have me sold. Looks like they are on sale right now for $9.99 or $8.99 each if you buy two.

What's the deal with the Speed Freeks gizmo? I read about it but still don't see quite how it works. Did you try them out as well?

the speed freeks are cradles (essentially) for your thumbs.

if ordering, use coupon code:

Do you only use one on the right stick of the DS as well?

I find it funny that going back all the way to the original PS, the original Dual Analog controller had concave plastic sticks without the rubber coating (I was probably one of the minority that purchased it) and longer handles and then the changed it on the Dual Shock. The only issue I have with the PS3 controller is the sticks do get a bit slick after a long period of playing but nothing I can't deal with. The same thing happened on the 360 controller.

Yes. I only bought one pack of two so I have one on the DS and one on the 360 pad.

Making both concave on the DS would be nice, but like I said it feels a tad taller than the 360 and it might be more awkward than helpful.

The Speed Freeks are terrible. It essentially "wraps" around your thumb to avoid slippage. First, that isn't a problem on the 360. Second, every game is different in regards to how you rest your thumb on the stick making the Speed Freek feel out of place. If anyone wants one, I can dig mine up and ship them one. They are that bad... I'm giving them away!

Cool. I kinda equate them to those aluminum DS Stylus(s? ii?). A bit pricey but in the end it's hard to go back to the default control.

I'm always serious. It's the Internet that's full of shit.

That made more sense in my head but I still like the way it sounds so I'm sticking with it.

I must say that the FPS Freaks are an acquired taste. I also use them only on the R thumbsticks and put one on a 360 controller and one on a DS3. They feel a little funny at first, but once you get used to them, they do make things easier in FPS games. But don't think it'll be an instant fit or will feel natural at first because it won't.

How long of playing with them did it take to get used to them? I have some on the way.

One of us! I wouldn't play on public servers, as those dudes are badasses, but a group of us play every week. You might see a thread around here somewhere. Provided that you are friendly, we'd be happy to have you in the Tuesday games.

All your base are belong to the Warhawk!

BALLS!

Lastly, regarding the headset, I realize I can use any old bluetooth headset (I have a bluetooth speakerphone I'm tempted to try) but do all online multiplayer games support the headset like the 360? Also is there a quick way to mute the mic in game or is it headset dependent?
I'm pretty sure all online games support it, but because of the open standard (a mistake IMO), results vary widely.

Wired USB is generally much better than bluetooth, and they have plenty of cheap ones out there. See the Warhawk thread for recommended settings.

It took me a few play sessions. As I mentioned, I have little hands and reaching for the thumbstick does feel different. It says right in the instructions to basically give them some time before you decide if you like them.

Just a reminder, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta starts tomorrow.

I think you can still get codes here... http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions...bad-company-2/

I'm not a huge fan of FPS' but I loved the 1942 series so I can't wait!
