Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
there are plenty of private servers hosting up to 32 people, so I can't imagine everyone of them has access to a T1...I would hope fiber would be able to at least support 12

They do, but I have played on a few private servers with 20 or 24 and it was a player server. Who knows, guess we will have to wait and see what flip comes back with

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
I largely agree with Chew. It was a bummer to see that some of the strategies that I consider dirty were employed with regularity for a bit there. I'm specifically thinking of damaging or taking the other team's vehicles and swarming their spawn points. If a person spawns multiple times with no functional vehicles, no time to arm up and surrounded by two tanks, a warhawk and their own missile turret...odds are they aren't having any fun.
It's especially upsetting because I am almost always going out of my way to maintain some sense of fairness, and it's disappointing when others don't follow suit. In the map Chew is describing, I actually came very close to booting a few people. Then when the teams were the same on the next map, I asked first thing for that to not happen again...but damned if it didn't anyway. The blue team was ahead by 4000 points, had every zone on the map and was launching TOW missiles at the red spawn point.
All things being equal, I'd much rather boot folks who behave like that rather than lose the folks who don't. This game is a *friendly* one, and you all share some responsibility in that. No more piling on, please. [/rant]
That said, we had a great turnout last night, and it was awesome to see Cloud in the mix. I just hope we didn't chase him off permanently.
And really, those two maps were the only "bad" ones. I liked the Eucadia collection map, even though it took me forever to figure out where the cores were. I took digi for a long pointless drive in a jeep with him asking "where are you going?" I honestly had no idea.

I was a little frustrated on that map where we were down 4000 points, but I did accidentally drive a jeep off a cliff and get the Daredevil trophy, so not a total loss.
Speaking of trophies, is the clan leadership still being passed around? I never did get the Warlord trophy.

Still, it wasn't as bad as the one digi set up. He set up one that wasn't password protected and then disappeared for half an hour leaving me alone to play with some random minespamming asshat.

Still, it wasn't any worse than the jeep joyride I took digi on before he gave up on me.

Warhawk, like Rock Band and Burnout, will be a staple for the foreseeable future.

Warhawk says I can host 20.
chess, if I'm working the phones this Tuesday you should send me some of your map favorites. I don't know all the map combos. Also, how many games do we normally play? I wanted to include some of the expansion maps toward the end. Jetpacks!

Coolness. You've got the stick this week. The OP should still work since folks can just find the game through me. I just need to know if you can't make it or can't be on early or late so I can step in.
To set up the game, by tab:
Server Options:
Name: DVDTALK
Password: forum
Max Rank: Sergeant Major
Message: I usually just post something to remind that it's a friendly game and no mines
Everything Else: Default
Advanced Options:
All default except...
Check: All Talk and Randomize Teams
Uncheck: Balance Teams (if you have both checked it will default to balanced)
Intermission: 10 seconds
Return Time: 30 seconds
Before clicking Start Game, make sure Randomized Teams and All Talk are checked...sometimes they return to default for some reason.
Maps forthcoming...

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
You can load 10 maps in the rotation, and we usually get through 8 or so. The lobby is 30 minutes (because I start a few minutes before 7PM) and all other maps are 25 minutes. I recommend saving your map rotation. I just mix it up week to week and replace maybe 20-25% of the maps. Once you get good at it, the whole process takes 5-10 minutes.
I always start with a knives and nades DM lobby. Favorites are:
Badlands - Fortress
Destroyed Capital - Garden Showdown
Archipelago - Close Corridors
Eucadia - High City
Then I mix up roughly 60% CTF and 40% TDM.
Favorite CTF maps: (these need to be symmetrical and medium sized)
Badlands - Supply Chain
Archipelago - Acropolis Assault (also good for collection)
Eucadia - Valley Battle (also good for collection)
Island Outpost - Over the Bridges
Destroyed Capital - Spire Shut-In
Favorite TDM maps (I like these smaller, and they can be asymmetric)
Eucadia - Northern Bridge and Urban Strike
Badlands - South City
Island Outpost - Standoff
Destroyed Capital - King of the Hill
Archipelago - Southern Islands
If you ever decide to bring back the 10 minute dogfight, I recommend Archipelago or Destroyed Capital.
The expansion maps are wide open, but I recommend saving them for late in the night and I really really like Tau Crater.

From the OP:
Just a reminder, since you'll be moderating. You really have to keep an eye on team balance. I usually bring up the teams the second each map starts to get a feel for how fair they are. If It's an odd number, I generally sit out the map until somebody else comes on. If I'm on the shorthanded team, I just play a bit more aggressive than usual. It generally works out, with last week being a notable exception.
You also have to keep one eye on who's killing whom, where, how often and with what. Look for teams getting overran, especially in their own bases and call teams off if needed. I've only ever booted one person, but I've done it three times...and I've given lots of reminders/warnings to others.
With those two eyes busy, you can play the game with your third. Have fun!
Edit to add: It occurs to me that I can still do all of this as a regular player, but you'll have the banhammer.
Rules of engagement: This game is not intended to be competitive. It should be a low threat learning environment, and I will moderate it as such. People coming in to "pwn N00bs" can expect to be promptly booted. My expectation is that more experienced players should take on a teacher/target drone role in order to develop everyone's skills and not discourage people who are new to the game.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Sergeant Major is probably a bit arbitrary, but it's the rank I've always used. As I recall, it's the point that I gave up on ranking up because progressing required some crazy stuff in the Warhawk and a shit-ton of hours in the game. So basically, I figured anybody who'd gone farther was going to be too good for our game and would be plenty comfortable on public or ranked servers.

I actually edited when I realized that I could still play the same role in that regard. I just won't have the capability to boot people...which I never do anyway.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Heres hoping we get to 12 this week. Looking forward to it!
I say we just get rid of the high level cap since we reserve the right to kick anyone anyway. I am actually at the Sergeant Major so I am right at the cap, however I doubt I will get the next rank regardless as it requires warhawk achievements.
Definitely need some jetpack and tau crater action.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
There's only one person who's been rank limited to my knowledge, and coincidentally, it's the only person I've ever booted. Also, booting people requires watching people, which is more trouble than it sounds like (especially with you running around in a tank).
I think you and I would be fine in a more competitive setting, but you also have to protect the folks who are less seasoned or are just playing to have a good time. I'd prefer to keep them around and having fun.
That said, I'd be OK with going up one level to accommodate IFlores, who I think is right on the verge of "getting it".

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Flip,
I don't know your schedule, but I'd recommend playing with the menus a bit tonight or before the game. Take a look at the in-game menus with you as host as well, if you haven't already.
You could also set up and save the map rotation. I'm happy to give feedback on it, if you want to post it up.
FWIW, I'd be shocked if we get over 8 in the game for any amount of time...although I do like that the game has a chance to grow.
