If you love that song, you should really check more of their stuff out. Wreck Your Life, Too Far to Care, and Satellite Rides are just about perfect as far as albums go (though I'd start with Too Far to Care). Their other releases all have some gems, but they released three records in a row that are incredibly solid - start to finish.

EDIT - Fight Songs was released in between Too Far to Care and Satellite Rides. Fight Songs is good, but the change in direction from Too Far to Care was unexpected and, at the time, unwelcome. I've warmed up to it since then, but still not my favorite of theirs.

Interested in Sweetness but I'd rather have Pain as one of their other songs. Alt-country will wait until I can see charts and hopefully one of those is as good as mattress dancin'.

That's right; I said mattress dancin'

Too Far to Care is one of the greatest albums ever released by any band, ever.

Agreed. Every single song on that album is a gem. I've probably listened to that album more than just about any other one in my collection. In fact, I'll likely now be listening to it on my way home tonight, as I've now got several of its songs running through my head.

Don't like the Jimmy Eat World song in RB2 too much (though I can tolerate it) so not too excited personally. And country is not for me. Yeah I don't know what to think about JA either, wish they would at least say something. Oh well no big deal.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

en gone for a couple of weeks, and since Shagrath loves my take on DLC...

Fratelli's - You're fucking kidding me, right? They couldn't think of something better than this shit?
Snoop Dogg - Interesting. Not sure how they'll pull it off...but I'd be willing to give it a shot, as long as it's not post-1997 (which I'm sure it would be).
White Zombie - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Turbonegro - Not familiar with this, will have to listen
Alt-Country - See Fratelli's
Jimmy Eat World - I'm in for the Sweetness, but that's it.

Also, Shagrath, I'm a few days late, but I'd like to be in for the weekly contests.

I think it's a disservice to Alt-Country to call it Country. I mean, I know I listen to a lot of what people call "Alt-Country" but it's much closer to Blues-Rock or Alt-Rock than Country. So if anyone's dismissing these releases based on "country" being included in the title, I think you should at least give some of the songs a listen.

I agree 100%. Typically i refer to the genre as Americana for the very reason so many people have a preconceived notion what "country" is they won't even give other things a listen. It really does have much more in common with blues than the modern pop-country or country-rock that most people envision.

That I'm getting these artists in Rock Band blows my mind. I certainly never thought I'd see a Neko Case song. People should give these songs a shot because I have no doubt that the charting is going to be a heckuva lot of fun... but people have to get beyond the "country" stigma first.

Well lucky for you, it is out of your Rock Band. If they start putting country (which I actually like some of) and rap (yuck) on disc-based releases (RB3), then I'll bitch about it.

Alt-Country arrives and no Ryan Adams or The Jayhawks? Oh well. Consider this another reassurance that Alt-Country is NOT Country. And thank goodness for that...

Since I haven't had enough feedback about a tourney idea, I'm going to throw out a quick challenge in the next post. If there's enough interest (entrants?), then I'll introduce a new one every Sunday.

DVDTalk Challenge #1
Feel the Painkiller

Description: Play Feel the Pain and Painkller. Each song may only be played on a single instrument (Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals) once. So, you can play Guitar on Painkiller and Bass on Feel the Pain, but not Guitar on both.

How long: 1 Week. I will accept entries from now until 12AM Eastern on Monday, March 2nd.

Who can play: Anyone that is a DVDTalk member. Just PM me screenshots of your scores and I will combine them for the total.

Results: Results will be posted on Monday in this thread, and archived in post 3 or 4 as well.

*For the sake of having as many entrants as possible, I only went with on-disc stuff. I've been trying to get together a list of DLC that all interested parties have, so that I can make the challenges a little more varied. If you're interested in helping out, PM me if you haven't already.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

It is a good idea Shag and i hope you get a good number of folks participating.

I most likely won't be one of them though. I only do vocals so posting a score for the second song of me playing Easy drums would probably be pretty silly.

Jumping right into the final tier songs.

How do we know you aren't just picking stuff that you can 100%?

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

And can i request that the second challenge be dedicated to Chibul and edstein? Just make it some Miranda Lambert and Beastie Boys.

Shag, how are you taking into account the levels of difficulty?

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

To answer the questions:

Corvin: I hadn't even planned on adding myself to the mix. I didn't feel it was fair for me to create the challenges and participate in them. This is something I'm doing just for the community.

devilshalo: I was just thinking score-based on this first challenge. I can't really think of a good way of factoring in different difficulties. Score obviously doesn't work, and neither does streak. I don't think there are going to be enough participants to really have separate tiers for the challenge "leaderboard", so to speak.

If anyone has any inputs on how to make this better, let me know.

Not knowing what DLC people have kinda makes that hard.

At our last local get-together, I did the "Miranda" set of Headphones on and Gunpowder & Lead on vocals. It was great! The week before that, I did the "Electric Set" of Electric Eye / Electric Crown / Electric Version. I love putting together funny little sets like that, and if we can get a good baseline of what DLC people have, we can branch out more with these things.

Any suggestions for submissions from someone without a digital camera?

I can't think of another way at the moment, but I'm open to suggestions.

You don't even have a cell phone with a camera?

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

I would suggest just complaining afterward that you had a better score and would have won if you just had a camera

Simply record the results on papyrus and/or a stone tablet and deliver them to Shagrath via Pony Express.
