Also, you're only allowed to play on 42" TVs as all others have different sized notes and they come down the screen at different speeds so that's cheating.

I understand L&O's pov... it's like getting into a CoD or GoW tournament and being able to glitch.

I'm starting a new contest, people can play one of three games that I choose then I will pick a winner based on a score that really doesn't mean anything because the people can play on one of 4 difficulty levels, and one of 4 different methods of play, with or without cheats. Who wants in?

To answer the questions:
Corvin: I hadn't even planned on adding myself to the mix. I didn't feel it was fair for me to create the challenges and participate in them. This is something I'm doing just for the community.
devilshalo: I was just thinking score-based on this first challenge. I can't really think of a good way of factoring in different difficulties. Score obviously doesn't work, and neither does streak. I don't think there are going to be enough participants to really have separate tiers for the challenge "leaderboard", so to speak.
If anyone has any inputs on how to make this better, let me know.

I know this is your thing, Shag, but I think a good "prize" for first place is that the winner gets to create and host (but not participate in) the next challenge. That way you can get in on subsequent challenges.

Fun fact: Harmonix never intended Breakneck Speed to be in the game. One of their programmers snuck it in before gold and it wasn't caught until release. They're actually really adamant about people using it since they never wanted it in the game in the first place.

Plus, I don't want to burden someone else with creating the next challenge, or relying on them to do so. I was in on the "Pig Mask" thing in Otter where someone bought a pig mask off eBay and they sent it to users around the world taking pictures of it, and then one guy got it and just fucking kept it.
I know the challenges are just text, and I could come up with another one if someone fell through, but it's really not a big deal. Also, I'm running the same challenge on another board and they don't care if I participate there, as I'm not "top dog" or whatever.

You can have your opinion. It's just that this isn't a live tourney or anything. Everyone has the right to play the challenge the way they see fit (on the instruments and difficulties they choose). Playing with Hyperspeed on on a 42" TV is probably close to the same as without Hyperspeed on a 10' projector. You're playing the notes at the exact same time, it's just that they're scrolling at different speeds. It's all a preference in viewing, like turning the gamma up or down on a game.

Guitar vids are updated into post #2. Drum vids are incorrect right now due to them not being uploaded, and the way my automation works.

I will also reserve final judgment until we get more info. However, we can assume some things.
- The online store will allow for expandability without having to pump out titles every 4-6 months

As for the 2nd one, I know that the PSP's firmware can be updated. I've never heard of a PSP game getting patched, but I don't know for a fact that it couldn't be done.

Unless the PSP version can do something really new and interesting, I can't see myself getting it. Rock Band, even more than Guitar Hero's earlier guitar-only games, seems so well-suited to consoles and so poorly-suited to portables that I can't imagine how this will be enticing to anyone who owns a home console in addition to a PSP.

Gamespot may have turned the very concept of it into an April Fool’s gag, but EA will indeed be releasing a PSP-exclusive entry in its Rock Band franchise later this year. Primotech has learned that Rock Band Unplugged, as it’s titled, is currently in development at Backbone Entertainment (Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, 1942: Joint Strike) and will mark the third release in MTV Games and EA’s burgeoning series of music video games.
The gameplay is largely the same as that of Rock Band and Rock Band 2; players must hit corresponding buttons in-time as they scroll by on-screen. There will not be a peripheral attachment available, like that which Activision produced for Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS. Instead, all input is handled by the ‘Left,’ ‘Up,’ ‘Triangle,’ and ‘Circle’ buttons. The player can switch between guitar, drums, bass, and “vocals” (although he won’t physically be singing, merely tapping buttons) using the L and R shoulder buttons.
Tracks are broken down into what are called “phrases.” Play a phrase perfectly to earn a multiplier boost and a prompt to switch to a different instrument. The player can actually choose to switch instruments at anytime, but switching prematurely will cause him to lose his multiplier. “Overdrive,” used to rack up big points and avoid failing a track, is of course included as always.
The game will ship with tracks from Blink 182, Boston, AFI, Kansas, Lit, and The Police. DLC tracks will be made available through the PlayStation Network and can be accessed through the game’s own built-in store. Multiplayer functionality will not be available. Visually, the style and feel of Rock Band is maintained perfectly, with only a drop-off in the polygon count.
Look for an official announcement soon. Based on its current development progress, we surmise the game should ship to retail by year’s end.

(Not to mention what popularity in RB/GH does for bands and their music on the back end outside of the game. Duh.)

The PSP 3000 does have a built in mic that the 2000 and 1000 models do not. That could pose a compatibility problem or at a minimum require an external mic adapter for vocals.

My link above says you won't actually be singing or guitaring or drumming. This seems to be just a remake of Amplitude with the Rock Band name thrown on for recognition. It sounds like exactly the same gaming concept.
