Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
I think your logic only works out if you could apply the $50 GC to one of the two games you bought, which you can't. In terms of maximizing value, this is actually slightly worse than B2G1...you buy two games for $59.99 each and can get a third game of $50 or less "free" (or more than one game that adds up to $50 for "free").

It's actually more like
Buy 2 games and get the 3rd for $9.99 + tax. (with the $50 GC)
Buy 2 games and get the 3rd for $9.99 + tax. (with the $50 GC)

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
If your third game is $59.99, you should be able to get a $20 GC for that purchase, unless there is a restriction that says you can't get the $20 GC if you're paying with a GC. It all depends on the wording of the offer, whether the GCs are specially marked, etc. At a minimum, you would probably have to make two separate trips, unless the clerk was really nice.

I bought 3 games last night (even though I probably shouldn't have) and got a $70 GC.

No, u get the $50 Gift Card only when you buy the 2 games, which amounts to $120 plus taxes. So 2 games and a $50 Gift Card for $120. Then use the gift card on the 3rd game you want in the future.

You are spending $120 cash and getting a $50 credit towards a future purchase. The $50 gift card doesn't erase any of the $120 you've already spent.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
In a B2G1, you pay 59.99 each for two games and get a third game of equal or lesser value for free. So, you spent ~$120 and ended up with 3 games.
In this deal, you pay $59.99 each for two games and get a $50 gift card for a future purchase. You apply that $50 gift card toward a third $59.99 game. So, you spent ~$130 and ended up with 3 games.
Thus, the B2G1 is actually the better overall deal, assuming you want 3 games that are all $59.99. To put it another way, B2G1 deal has the most maximum potential value. The only way the gift card works out to be a "better deal" in any sense is if you want two games that are $59.99 and two other value-priced (greatest hits, etc) games whose sum total adds up to $50. In the B2G1, you could only get one of those value-priced games for free since the third game is "equal or lesser value" but with the gift card deal, the gift card essentially gets you both value-priced games for free.
And now I've officially analyzed this deal beyond recognition.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
What dino said pretty much sums it up, but I'll break it down in a little more detail:
In a B2G1, you pay 59.99 each for two games and get a third game of equal or lesser value for free. So, you spent ~$120 and ended up with 3 games.
In this deal, you pay $59.99 each for two games and get a $50 gift card for a future purchase. You apply that $50 gift card toward a third $59.99 game. So, you spent ~$130 and ended up with 3 games.

Game 1 59.99
Game 2 59.99
You get $50 GC
You now have spent $120 and have 2 games and a $50 GC
Game 3 59.99 - $50 GC = 9.99
You get $20 GC
You have now spent $130 and have 3 games and a $20 GC
So actually if you buy three 59.99 games, you are spending $130 and you get three games AND a $20 gift card for future purchase. Thus this is a little better than B2G1....you spend $10 more cash out of pocket, but you end up with an extra $20 in gift cards.

Edit: Actually, at best this seems like a wash to me: spend $120 to get an additional $60 in value or spend $130 to get an additional $70 in value. Sure, you get an additional $10 in value with the latter, but you spent $10 more to get there.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
That is slightly better, as long as that's actually possible. I'd be surprised if Toys 'R Us has any kind of sophisticated flagging system to not allow a promotional gift card to be used on a later transaction for the same promotion, so it probably does work. That being said, your scenario doesn't represent the math the OP was using to justify this as a better deal.

with B2G1 you are spending $120 cash to get $180 in product (3 $60 games)
with this promo you are spending $130 cash to get $200 in product (3 $60 games + $20 GC)
Also this deal doesn't REQUIRE you to find 3 games, which is usually difficult for me. So i can use the $50 gift card for Christmas presents for the kids, I know that I am going to spend at TRU anyways. Basically cash to me. One could interpret that as getting two $60 games for $35 each
Just depends on your situation. For me personally, Best Buy or Target credit is the same as cash. Around Christmas TRU credit is the same as cash. I know within the next 30 days I will be buying product at these stores, so at any of them I would happily spend $10 cash to get $20 credit.

Game related deal:
Gohastings has a sale on used game guides - 5 guides for $20 bucks. Free shipping today only!
code - 111010
Considering that these guides retail for $20 or more each, huge savings here! Unfortunately, the Fallout guides are sold out.

If you text GAMER to 332211, Best Buy will text a coupon for $20 off a 12-month Gold Live membership. If you're near a store with $50 cards still in stock, it's a decent deal.

They're probably mostly gone now, but it might be worth checking Radio Shack. They're clearing out the Silver Dual Shock 3 controllers for $24.99. Great deal if you can find one.

New deal at Toys R Us this week.
Buy 1, get the 2nd for 40% off
I went in tonight with the $70 GC that I got from purchasing 3 games last week. I bought COD: Black Ops and Super Mario Galaxy 2. With the GC and discount, I ended up paying around $27 for both games.
