Star Wars: The Old Republic

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
A very detailed interview with a beta tester:
http://betacake.blogspot.com/2011/06...r_17.html#more
one question about how combat works:
Q. Hi, i would like to know how does combat mechanics works.
A. There is no auto-attack, and it is all ability based. As a Sith Warrior Juggernaut, you use attacks to build up your rage, and then you use a “heavy rage” attacks, use CC, AoE abilities, etc. Each class has their own mechanic, Troopers have power cells, Bounty Hunters need to manage heat, and so on. It plays like any other hot-key MMO, just without an auto-attack. This means you need to be actively engaging in combat and paying attention.
This just sealed a day one purchase. I hated how in WOW you just right clicked and watched your avatar attack.
And it sounds like the game is near completion. I'm guessing around November the game launches

Sounds like it should come out a lot sooner than November, according to that random Beta tester at least:
Q. Is there any indication that the newest build published this week will lead to larger-scale beta testing invites in the coming days/weeks? And what does it mean in relation to a release? Are we looking at 3 months? 6 months?
A. The game feels pretty much done. If anything they are just working on their server infrastructure. There aren’t really any game breaking bugs, and it could ship right now. They are doing another stress test at the end of the month, so that may be what John Riccitiello meant by increased testing.

Don't really care about the statue, but the rest looks pretty interesting. Rumor is a release date is close to being announced. Time to start shopping for a new pc.

I can't believe no one has updated this yet. Preorders started yesterday. The CE is already sold out at Origins and Amazon.
Info on the different editions here.

Still shows as available at Amazon. I preordered in case there's any flip potential.

Amazon got a new allocation of units about an hour ago. I was finally able to order one. I assume they will sell out quickly again.

I'll never understand why that's always such an issue with people. Its only $15 bucks a month. Most people spend more than that on coffee or soda.
It takes money for them to keep those servers running and provide new content.
If I play the hell out of it for six months thats $135 as opposed to $60 for one new game I may play for a couple weeks.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
As much as I'd love to preorder this, I
a) don't have a computer that will run it at the moment,
b) don't like playing MMO's right after they launch (too many bugs, server issues, etc.), and
c) don't really have a ton of faith that this game is going to be all that great.
I plan on buying/building a new computer early next year, so hopefully this game will have come out and had it's bugs fixed by that time.

Fucking $60 for a MMO is bullshit, but whatever, I preordered it anyway, cause I'm such a Bioware/Star Wars whore. I'm pretty much burned out on anything MMO related, but this game is the exception.

Went on Amazons page and saw the release date is 12-31. Is that just a rumored release date? I was hoping for a November release so i can take off from work And seeing as how it lands on a sunday Amazon wont even be able to deliver it on release day!

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I like bioware but I've invested in too many mmo's that ended up totally sucking after they released wasting my money. I will be seeing how this is before I buy it.

At any rate, it's worth pre-ordering to get the early access. Then, if you don't like it you simple cancel the pre-order.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I don't know, it just looks like a 4 player knights of the old republic, not an actual mmo. At least to me it doesn't.

My concern is people rage-quitting and/or otherwise coming down on you for choosing the "wrong" dialogue option.
