Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic

So there are plenty of CG trailers, but have they shown actual gameplay yet?

Yeah. But it wasn't impressive.

I'm sure there will be at least a few fairly hands on demo videos that show up. Hell they showed gameplay at LAST years E3.

Three hours of footage here:

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic

I'm not convinced by this. It looks like a half-assed single player game that was made into an MMO for no apparent reason. This should've been another single player game. Oh well...

This is why I always thought clamoring for game play clips is bit silly. Some games, MMO's included, are just boring to watch

I'm not going into the Call of Duty threads and complaining that it's not a 2D platformer.

Okay, now I see why they've been focusing on the pre-rendered cutscenes.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic

Don't get me wrong. I wanted it to look good (proving my fears unfounded) but it doesn't. And I think we all suspected as much when all the ads were (admittedly awesome) CGI trailers and some scant clips of gameplay seen in developer interviews.

This game instead looks like they tried to shoehorn a single player game into an MMO. It looks like an uncomfortable middle ground.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic

I never played SWG, but I still do not see how a raid could work well in the SW/sci-fi vein. I played WoW and raiding worked well in that setting, but SW seems an odd fit. Is there healing, Tank? I have sworn off MMOs since I broke my WoW addiction, so I will try and skip this one, maybe try the free demo.

Yeah, totally. Anyone who has played an MMO realizes this. This game is nothing more than WoW with a Bioware/Star Wars touch on it, exactly what I (and others) expected it to be. With each class supposed to have their own 50-100 hour unique storyline quest, I'm really looking forward to it.

There are roles, just like any other MMO. I think it's flexible due to talents, or whatever they are calling them, just like WoW, so a Jedi can be a tank, dps, or a healer. There are also more specific classes for those roles, I think there is some type of Medic class, and there is a tank oriented class.

I just have more trouble seeing how I could be immersed in this type of game set in a Sci-fi environment than a D&D/fantasy environment as I have not played one in this setting before.

Try playing Mass Effect and you'll see Bioware is very capable at making an immersive sci-fi RPG. I actually like that franchise better than their Dragon Age games.

That's what has me most interested in old republic. I played WOW for about two months. After the 50th quest of collecting items or killing a set number of monsters, it just became boring to me. There wasn't much of a story to pull me in. I've heard that there are no fetch quests in O.R.
