I never quite got used to the 360 controller. I'm far more comfortable with the PS controller.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I'm getting the 360 version for a variety of reasons -- in no particular order, the achievements, the XBox controller, and the fact that I don't own a PS3 so it would just be an expensive coaster if I bought that version.

Well, I can see a preference for FPS games, but in a game like this, I think the DS3 is more than adequate. I've played like six Ratchet & Clank games with this style of controller by now so I'm fairly comfortable using it for third-person action/platformers.

As far as Achievements, yes they're better than Trophies, no doubt, but why someone would give up an (apparently) fun gameplay mode for a few hundred nerd points is beyond me. I never really got that appeal, actually.

Damn! And I was trying to keep my secret preference for 30 minute game installs and 20 minute patch updates well hidden.

I am hoping to see some more opinions on the Joker missions before I pull the trigger on which platform. I know it is silly but I will feel like I am cheating on my 360 if I buy a game for another console that is available on the 360 unless it is for my kid. Tiger Woods for the Wii was hard enough. :(

Anyone seen any in depth reporting on the Joke missions rather than just a small blurb?
And are the Joker mission included or are they just DLC only? I never have an PSN points so that may help me make that decision right there.

Once I get my copy, that's the first thing I plan on checking out. Should be this week...I hope.

Pre-ordered this for the PS3 last night at Gamestop. Can't wait. They are doing a midnight release next Monday, and are also giving away a bonus Scarecrow challenge map for those who preorder.

I decided to get the PS3 version only for the Joker stuff and the batcave for PSHome. I couldn't really justify the 360 version this time.

As the blurb says, it's free DLC. It's probably a code that you enter online.

Oops. Overlooked that.

This is actually a tougher decision than I was expecting.

It maybe included on the disc. I heard the Batcave is on the disc only.

As Decker said it will probably be a code (the blurb makes it sound that way). I think more companies are doing things like that so you only get the extra content if you buy the game new. This is companies trying to dig into the used market a little.

FYI, someone reported at CAG:

Heads up- $30 gift card at TRU on release day (Tues 25th) 10am-2pm if you're a rewards member, otherwise it's $20 all week. It's also available as a reserve if you wish to guarantee yourself a copy.
Pretty good damn deal if it's true.

DVDChris 08-18-09 08:58 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

okay, to clarify, it's buy Batman at full price, get a $30 gift card as a rewards member or $20 gift card otherwise.

Yep.

Or get it on Amazon for $47.99 using the code 5OFFARKM for $5 off.

If I am not mistaken rewards membership is free....

Can that be used with another discount? Cos I have a $10 off discount I've yet to use.

Brent L 08-18-09 11:37 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

No clue, I guess it depends on the discount you have.

I do know that you can stack the ECA discount with the above coupon code.

Darn, I wish I had ECA to use with this myself.

Amazon is also doing a thing right now where if you trade in $60 worth of games to them, they'll add an extra $30 to your total - so trade in $60 worth of games, you actually get $90 worth of credit.

RocShemp 08-18-09 11:43 PM

What's ECA?

ECA is pretty great if you buy most of your games through Amazon.

It's a hell of a deal. I figure to save well over $100 with this, and it only cost $20. Even if you only buy The Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition, you come out ahead.

Supermallet 08-19-09 01:27 AM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Yeah, I combined the ECA discount with the Amazon 50% trade-in deal coupon, and got the limited edition for free. But even if you don't, 10% off every game means you pay off the $19.99 membership after you buy four games at $59.99, and most people here buy more than four games a year.

Spiderbite 08-19-09 08:53 AM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Don't forget that the ECA membership also applies to anything video game related except consoles. So you can get RB guitar straps, Turtle Beach headphones, guitar stands, drum sticks, controllers, etc. and still get 10% off if they are in the video game section.

I got it just for The Beatles set and have already used it on other things already.

Good grief, that's a fantastic deal for me...I have the $20 gift card I got last month from buying Wii Sports Resort....
So, just to be clear: I can buy this for $60 - $20 GC = $40 AND get a $30 GC with it, so essentially it makes it a net of $10 spent? I was planning to use the $20 GC for Beatles, but now I'll get Batman and use this $30 GC off of Beatles instead!

No, technically your spending $40 in cash, your just converting $30 of it to a gift card. That being said, I also got the $20 card from Wii Sports Resort which I believe the clerk said expires sometime in September so I'll use mine also towards this.

The problem with TRU, at least mine anyway, is that they never have new releases in stock. Unless it's called Grand Theft Batman, Rock Band Batman, or Halo Batman.

I was gonna rent this game, but with the TRU deal (and my $20 gift card from Wii Sports Resort), I think I'll just buy it and sell it once I beat it.

In years past TRU was the last place I would shop for a video game unless I went there for a specific deal. Usually I wouldn't get to use it because all the good games were gone. However I am seeing now that they really are one of the best places in town to get good deals. They usually have good clearance games too.

Edit:
WTH is up with giving gamestop an exclusive map? The one store I wouldn't want to buy it from gets such a cool exclusive. How unfair is that?

I ordered mine for $48 shipped from Amazon (with the coupon 5OFFARKM ).
