Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I mean come on guys....when reviews are not only calling it the best Batman game of all time (not saying much as I still think NES Batman is the best ever) but also calling it game of the year....when reviews are comparing the quality to Bioshock...how can you not be excited????

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Game of the year doesn't mean a whole lot right now... get back to me on December 31st. :)

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Don't crown MW2 YET!!! Dennis Green said it best, "Now if you want to crown them, then crown their ass!"
Still my money is on Assassins Creed 2. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Easy to be GOTY when everything moves to Q1 2010, amiright?

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
There's a list of all the Arkham Asylum (PS3/PC/X360) content here.
Site seems to be based in the UK, though, but the general game info contained within should be good worldwide. The highlights: # The main game is about 12-15 hours long. # 16 challenge maps, 8 of which are combat and 8 of which are invisible predator (stealth). # The game plays at 720p. # After finishing the game you will be able to free roam around the asylum as much as you like, though enemies will not respawn. Power-ups unlocked in previous completed games will carry over to new games. # The Riddler has left 240 riddles around the Asylum, just waiting to be solved by some costume-wearing superhero. PS3 details: * Free DLC on August 25th – 8 challenge maps in which you play as the Joker that will never, ever be available for any other version of the game due to an exclusivity deal with Sony. * Playstation Home – Batman Arkham Asylum Batcave Outpost Apartment, which features the Batmobile, Batsuit, Batwing and other gadgets. This apartment will be free. * ‘The Road to Arkham’ comic book will be given to PSP users free, but will probably not be readable on your PS3. * Some elements of SixAxis control (though we don’t know what these are or if they’re optional). * 1.2gb install (5gb installs tend to take about 10 minutes, so that’s about 2 minutes of install time). |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
That sucks about the Joker never coming to the 360. I guess I will have to get the PS3 version then.
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I'm very surprised they wont feature the Joker as DLC for the 360. But, to be honest, after the initial thrill, the challenge map demo wasn't that much fun. Yeah, it was cool to kick the crap outta a bunch of random thugs but it didn't really let you feel like Batman. You felt like an awesome asskicker (which Batman is) but it left out all the detective work.
Unless the Joker DLC essentially let you play a brand new story campaign set around the events of the game proper, I can see it getting old real soon. |

I am surprised that

I might switch to the PS3 version for the Joker. I haven't decided yet.

Well I assume eventually it'll be released for the 360. Exclusive appears to mean "you guys on the _____ console get it later" nowadays.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
How many times have we heard that it something will never, ever be available on a different console and then it shows up later.
It may not be the case with this one but I wouldn't bank on it, especially since it is comic book related. 360 all the way strictly for the controller. I felt my hands cramping a little with the control scheme on the demo with the 360. I can't imagine playing it on the uncomfortable dualshock. I played the demo for the first time last night and was utterly impressed. I couldn't believe how enjoyable it was. I will definitely wait to hear some reviews and probably a price decrease, but it was a very good demo...both graphics and playability. With The Beatles coming and my back catalog of games, I just can't justify getting it on release date. |

Besides, even if that weren't the case, I can't understand the logic of waiting a year to spend $10 to play content that's available for free at launch on the PS3 version. Like many of you, all things being equal, I'll always choose the 360 version over the PS3, but that clearly isn't the case here. |

I agree, why wait for something. As long as the graphics are near the same on both consoles. However, I do like achivements more than trophies. It's a tough choice.
There has been some reports of a bit of a graphical difference in the two. Some say that the ps3 is sharper, but with jaggies, while the 360 is smoother. Also, like most PS3 games, it is darker, but that should be something you can fix with your TV. More alarming is people say that there is more screen tearing on the PS3, and a few more hiccups. This may be wishful thinking on 360 owners parts, and you really will not know until you get reviews that dig into it more. I am getting this game, but I still firmly believe that they have put a hold on all reviews below a 9, like rumors say, so we will not get into the negatives until the game comes out. |

Yeah, whether it's DLC (Fallout 3) or a game in general (Bioshock), the other console always gets it eventually.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I think the exclusivity may have to do with DC Online being only on the PS3. Either way it's the same game on both consoles.

I am not an achievement whore but I would much rather get achievements than trophies. I absolutely pay no attention whatsoever to trophies at all. At least achievements add to your gamerscore and they feel a little more tangible and worth something...kinda. The controller is the biggest decider for me. It would have to be some kinda fantastic extra for me to pick a multi-console game and choose the PS3 or Wii release over the 360 version. Like Tiger Woods 2010. I got it for the Wii but only for the controller. Even though the Wii got the disc golf extra content and PS3 and 360 didn't, I would have gotten the 360 version if it hadn't had been for the control difference. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Demo was great. I've gone from being mildly interested, to wondering when I can figure out a time in the schedule to play this!

From Game Informer review: theedge When All Games Aren't Created Equal "The Playstation 3 version comes with an added bonus, a free download featuring the Joker as a playable character in new challenge maps. Playing as this clown prince is a blast and reason to veer towards the PS3 version." |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I preordered the Xbox version for different reasons, in not specific order: achievements, controller, and in my projector the Xbox demo looked better than the PS3 version.

The 360 controller trumps almost everything. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Man, got the new issue of GI in an both reviews gave it a 9.5 and called it this year's Bioshock!
It appears that the Batman game curse might be lifted now. I might have to pick this one up on release day after all. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I guess I'd better make up my mind soon about which version to get.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
LOVED the demo. I like the stealth/fighting comob--the whole thing seems to capture the essence of Batman extremely well. Amazon here I come...

The 360 controller trumps almost everything. While I prefer the analog sticks and the triggers of the 360 controller (along with it's overall grip), I prefer the digital-pad and face-buttons of the PS3 controller. |

The 360 controller trumps almost everything. I do like that the 360 controller has the analog stick in the more comfortable position though, but I've gotten used to it where's it not an issue anymore. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
i went with the 360 version as well - i am more comfortable with the xbox controller and i think (for whatever reason this may be) that achievements are more tangible than trophies. besides, the ps3 is hooked up to our large entertainment tv, where i have to compete with all my sons for game playing, while i also have a second 360 set up in my home office for my own game playing. :)
