Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Finally had a chance to try out the demo. I was really impressed. I like detective sections quite a bit. I really liked the combat and the sneak gameplay. The camera was kind of annoying right behind Batman's shoulder, but i can deal with that.
I usually wait to buy games until they are around $40, but this might make me change my mind. |

1) They're not active until 6 hours after issue, so you can't expect to use it on another, immediate transaction. 2) They have an expiration date of a few weeks out. Just guessing that these will expire by the end of September making them useless for the usual B2G1F sale in October. |

Point 1 is valid, but the Wii Sports Resort gift card (issued on 7/26/09) is good until 9/30/09. Based on that, the Batman gift cards would theoretically be good until late October, though of course that's just speculation.

Ghostbusters and something else that came out +/- 2 weeks had the same expiration, IIRC.

Believe the hype and the reviews, this one's a keeper folks; fun, polished and just plain cool. This is one of those games that remind you why you enjoy videogames in the first place. The GT review's pretty spot-on, as usual: <div style="width: 480px;"><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=54785"/><param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=54785" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object><div style="font-size: 10px; font-family: Verdana; text-align: center; width: 480px; padding-top: 2px; padding-bottom: 2px; background-color: black; height: 32px;"><div><a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com" title="GameTrailers.com">Video Games</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/10111.html" title="Batman: Arkham Asylum">Batman: Arkham Asylum</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/54785.html" title="Review HD">Review HD</a></div><div style="padding-top: 3px;"><a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/xb360/index.html" title="XBox 360">XBox 360</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/ps3/index.html" title="PS3">Playstation 3</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/wii/index.html" title="Wii">Nintendo Wii</a></div></div></div> |

So which version did you buy?
There was the mandatory install (5-7 minutes) but it looks aces and plays like butter. I think the Joker levels are available now to download. |

I'm going to go sign up for Rewards R Us tomorrow then get the game Tuesday.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I ended up saying screw it to the Amazon deal and the TRU deal even. I just don't have the money to plop down for a brand new game right now, so I took a handful of games to GameStop just now and ended up with enough credit to pay off the game, with an additional $15 or so left over. They are doing the "get an extra 25% trade credit when you put it on Batman" promotion, so I got pretty good credit for everything. Heck, they gave me almost $30 for Modern Warfare after that extra, along with my Edge card, or whatever it's called.
Then on top of everything, they're doing a midnight launch so I'll have this Monday night!!! |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Just curious: was it more credit than you would have got from Amazon's trade-in store? And if so, was it over $15 more since you'd be dealing with full retail price, no coupons and tax at Gamestop vs Amazon?

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Playstation The Official Magazine gives Batman a glowing :5star: review in the new issue.

I think Amazon has a special right now where if you trade in $60+ worth of stuff they add $30 to your account, so that would've been a much better deal...but I want this game Monday night, not in a week or so. That may be a stupid decision, but hey, I require me some Batman as soon as possible. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
The Joker levels are up on PSN 107mb.
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Awesome, I'm downloading it right now so it'll already be on my PS3 when I get the game Monday night.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I have a $5 RZ coupon here that expires on the 31st. With the $30 gift card lasting through October, I'm seriously considering getting this. But it really hinges on whether or not the B2G1F deal will occur in October as usual.
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Meh, go ahead and buy it now, especially since you already have coupons and stuff right now.
By the time the B2G1F deal shows up in October, and it likely will, there will be even more games out that you can use for that deal. And in the meantime you'll be playing a kick ass Batman game. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Oh, there's plenty of games for the deal, that's not the problem.
The problem is having a $30 gift card with nothing to spend it on because Batman is really more of a borrow title for me as all my friends are likely to get it already. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
If you buy two copies of this, even if you have to do this with maybe two transactions...you will have spent 120 plus tax...and you will have 60 bucks in gift cards. Then if you trade it in to amazon during their 30 extra bucks promotion...real fast while its value is right at 30 bucks...you will get a total of 90 bucks for the two games....that is 150 in total spending money between amazon and toysrus...for 120 bucks....
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
and you get to play the game as well of course...

Now that I think about it, there is no way you could have gotten them all the games and gotten it on tuesday by now... so carry on... I bet you'll be thinking ahead next time eh? ;) |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
DL the demo - definitely a game I would buy and I just might - you feel completely in control but yet challenged at the same time; this is what games are SUPPOSE to be like. I love the interaction between your enemies as well (i.e. after you swoop in for the kill and repel back up...your enemies yell out "where is he!! I just saw him!! he took out....).
Graphics are great as well. Surprising game. |

Looking forward to playing this.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
The more I play it (I'm about 4 hours in and "10% done" - I guess I need to look for more secrets, though I need more power-ups to get them), the more awesome it gets.
This game has totally given Shadow Complex the dirt-nap for me. Make sure you finish that before starting Arkham. Seriously, not to hyperbolize, but this is definitely "game of the year" material folks. What's taken me by surprise, even more than the solid game play, is the atmosphere and the level of immersion that even gives Bioshock a run for it's money. I'll field questions. |
