looking back, the Scarecrow parts might be some of the best video game moments in recent memory. I also thought the ending was just fine, and wished the game was longer.

Personally, I found the game to be a bit on the tedious side. The action was far too dull to be of any true excitement, and the "puzzles" are simply boring.

Far too often it felt as though I were merely wandering around, hoping to stumble upon the correct doorway or some enemies.

DC Fanboyness aside, and, for as much as I love this game...I can't say you're wrong. I've had some of those feelings while playing this game at various times. I'm glad they included the challenges to get my Bat-beat-down fix because there were times when I was searching for items and really felt like kickin' some ass.

At some points in this game I got a "Survival Horror" vibe due to the endless searching and puzzle solving. There was also a creepy vibe to areas of the game that really said, "A monster is gonna jump out soon". But of course that didn't happen.

The cool thing was playing as Batman, I really felt like I could take on anything. :p

I wouldn't mind this game developer taking on some more DC games.

Wow, you guys weren't kidding. Silent Knight Extreme is @#$% ridiculous! Fun trying over and over though.

Hey, Room with 7 armed guys wearing collars, three shitty gargoyles and some tunnels. Yeah, you! SUCK MY BALLS.

That one took me too many attempts for my liking :( I finally got around it by using my spray foam and the vents, and it became a quite enjoyable time. But initially, suck my balls level.

Finally beat the game last night at around 3:00AM and I loved it. Now I'm going to go around and collect some more trophies and solve more riddles. I'm not going to be pissed if I don't get 100%, but I want a few more achievements. :)

i just played a few of the challenge modes. yeah, i'm not getting 100% on the game. i wasn't all that great at combat, but those are ridiculous.

I'm curious, for those that have beaten a combat challenge without taking damage, how many bonus points do you get? If it's some ridiculous amount, I might try going through a couple with nothing but dodges and counters. Otherwise, I have no idea how I'd ever get the 'gold' medals on those. I'll be surprised if I can get silver on a majority of them. The stealth challenges, on the other hand, are fucking awesome.

redbill 09-04-09 12:47 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I beat 2 rounds with no damage on the 1st challenge, and there wasnt much bonus. Still only got the bronze level...

Man, I love the action/combat. I can see how people would find it too dull, but to me, I think it's the perfect balance of ease of execution and coolness. I don't think I would like it as much if it were a more standard God of War type combo system.

I'm also completely wowed by how fully fleshed out the environments have been. The team who did them deserves a medal, for they're as rich and vibrant as nearly any I've seen in any other video game I've played. They didn't skimp on these environments one bit.

I think I would marry this game if I could.

You get 500 per round and 5000 total and the end so total of 7000, plus 10G achievement points.

Tygan 09-04-09 01:42 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

You also get points for varying your attacks...i.e. using throws, takedowns, ground knockouts, counters, batarangs, grapple, cape stun.....

The best run I had on Intensive Treatment (1st challenge map) was 16K....scored close to 5K on the first round alone thanks to the freeflow combat bonus of 1K.

If you can get the freeflow combat bonus on all 4 rounds, that's 11K of bonus points right there..... 2K for dark knight bonus (no dmg in a round x4), 4K for freeflow combat, and 5K for the no damage in any round bonus.

Cool, thanks. I think that probably puts the silvers within my reach, but I can't see getting golds on any of these.

It probably took me 20 tries to clear that room -- made all the worse by the fact that on attempt 15 or so, with 5 of the 7 guys taken out pretty much flawlessly, I got the one and only unreadable disc error I've had with this game.

Question, are some areas permanently
Spoiler:
blocked off once Ivy's plants start growing on the island, or do they go away after you defeat her? I have a few items blocked by her plants in some buildings and last night I didn't feel like replaying the Ivy Boss battle.

I took down three or four guys, hacked the security system, then dashed into the next area. Not terribly classy, but it got the job done.

Has anyone figured out how to complete this room on the extreme mode? I get shot down within 10 seconds!

Same here. I really loved the game, but rarely put together more than a 6x or 7x combo. Inevitable I would pause to regroup, starting another combo. Still kicked plenty of butt.

Great game, but after completing it I realized it was criminally short (11 hours to do everything but beat the game on Hard and get the 'Gold' achivements for challenge modes).

I'll actually buy a copy when it hits $30 though. I'd love to see them add more challenge maps as DLC; the predator stuff was by far the most fun and it would be simple for them to give the game longevity that way.

If I have one non length complaint it's that the story falls apart once
Spoiler:
you go face Poison Ivy. The confrontation before the Titan Joker fight felt more epic and like a proper ending. The Titan Joker fight was just lame.

It's a lot easier to get the high combos on the very first extreme mode combat challenge. The lower challenges I botch a lot because there are so few enemies to keep the fight going at a steady rate.

More Predator maps would be incredible.

I stand by my assertion they need the equivalent of a terrorist hunt mode from Rainbow Six: Vegas. Give me a decent sized map, sow it with like 30 guys wandering around in random spots and just let me try to take them all out. It would be awesome and highly replayable because everything would spawn randomly.

Bottom line is this game worth 52 or 53 dollars in your opinions guys and gals here? It's that much at Amazon new and I have a prime account, so I'm really thinking about purchasing this.

I'm loving this game. That damn room mentioned above (7 guys, rigged gargoyles) took me about an hour to finish. I had to stop shortly after that since it was reaching 4am, and without spoiling anything, I got a feeling the ending is coming up soon.

I'm racking up a bunch of achivements too. I doubt I will go for 100%, but I know I want to at least find every Riddler secret on the island, just to unlock everything.

I'm enjoying it and I'm not a huge Batman fan or anything, but there are a couple of things that strike me as strange. For one, I'm early in the game (about 10%) and I died at one point because I put explosive gel in the wrong place. So on the text screen that comes up when you die, it said exactly what to do next time. It's not like it was hard to figure out, but shouldn't the game let you do it on your own? (I'm on Normal difficulty, BTW). Also, I find it kind of annoying that all Batman does is knock people unconscious, apparently for endless hours at a time since they don't get back up. I realize that was probably to get a Teen rating, but come on. I place two explosive charges outside a tiny room, and it just knocks them out? Nonetheless, the game is proving to be a fun distraction for my labor day weekend.

Let's put it this way. There are only 3 games this year that I would personally buy full price. Beatles, COD MW2, and Batman.

It's a fantastic game for the single player. Unfortunately no multiplayer mode.

First off, I'm really surprised this got a teen rating even without the killing, it's got some very disturbing stuff in it. Second, I'm pretty sure it would've been a mandate from DC that Batman doesn't kill... I'm sure he's offed some thugs at some point, but in general he doesn't kill. Why do you think the Joker is STILL around at this point?

Just beat it, great game all the way through. Challenge maps, competing with friend scores will keep me busy for a while. I also think a 'terrorist hunt' map would be great. I keep Vegas 2 just for that mode.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I don't know about you, but there is no way some of the thugs survived some of the stuff I did to them in this game. I don't care what my detective mode tells me.

One thing did occur to me, how awesome would it be if the whole game was a trip on Scarecrows drug, and you had been going around the island, actually taking it over from the cops. All the people you attacked were not thugs, but actually cops.

Dammit, I FINALLY beat this challenge at 2:46 and didn't even get a $@% bronze?!!

For someone that has gotten a medal, how fast do they want you to do?

Isn't the only way to get the medals in those modes is to do the three specified "moves" for which you get a separate medal for each?

Yep, but you have to do all three on the same round. You can't do two one round, then the leftover on the next.

Brent L 09-05-09 12:22 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Yeah, I get that. I thought they were saying that they took out all the guys and were wondering why they didn't get any medals.

I got pissed the the game last night. I was doing one of the later ones in the medical facility, and I did the "take three guys down using three different wall explosions" and the "flying takedown", or whatever it's called. I had one guy left, and I did the "crash through a window using the line" just perfectly, I hit him and he went out and I knocked him out after and the stage ended, but it didn't give me credit for the window takedown!!! I had tried that one over and over and OVER and finally did it and it didn't register.

:(
