Am I the only one who selected "Demo" on Galaga Legions and actually thought I was playing...far, far longer than I should have. I was like, "Holy hell I'm great at this game and I don't even know the controls!" I figured the ship controlled funky when I started noticing that it wasn't following my movements....

Yep, probably the only one.

Common "problem" with Pac-Man: CE was the replay feature

GL also has that I noticed. I think it replaces the Demo option after you play once in that session.

Finally tried and bought Galaga. Awesome. Very challenging as well. I just wish there was a way to just play each level like Rez instead of starting at the beginning every time. Unless I missed a way to choose.

Adventure Mode is 1-5. Challenge Mode is 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

I added several of you to my friend list. I'm rsra13. I got tired of only seeing UncleGramps in my friend list

And yeah, I'll be the one at the bottom of all the lists in the arcade games, or so I think.

Galaga is sweet, but I think I had a seizure the first time I played it. So after you clear a level you can't continue from the next level? I usually get thru level 1 but lost my last life early on in level 2... is there no way to continue at level 2?

Galaga is probably not for me based on the demo. It seems like you can't have a quick 5 minute game like in GW2. It does seem kind of fun though.

I liked Galaga, based on the demo. It was intense, but manageable, esp. as you learn to use the satellites. It's similar enough to say "Oh yeah, that's Galaga" but different enough to be more than a "remake" (it's less similar to Galaga than PacMan CE is to PacMan [based solely on the demo] in my mind). It's a definite maybe (I'm really tight with points.) I need to read a review and see about game length and replayability....though GW2 probably has it beat in that regard.
Unpopular opinion time: I don't see what all the fuss is about Braid. (Part of that is my internal automatic resistance goes up the more I hear hype or buzz about something.) Again, based just on the demo, I wasn't incredibly impressed. OK, you can go back in time. Maybe I haven't used that enough, but I don't see all the adulation about it.

Dude, I wasn't impressed by the Braid demo either but I bought it and ended up loving it. I'm not trying to coax you into anything, just sharing my opinion.

Now for my unpopular opinion: I regret buying Bionic Commando. It seems like a well-made game but it's just not for me. I must say, however, that the bosses are pretty cool.

I don't remember ever playing the original so the nostalgia factor isn't there. My biggest gripe is the controls. What kind of asshole soldier can't jump but swings with a claw? I know if I spent enough time I would get good at them but right now I'd rather spend my time playing GW2, Galaga or COD4. The load times seem long as well although that may just be me manifesting my anger of falling in the water 5 times in a row. Someday I'll revisit and have a blast I hope but right now I want to stick that claw up my own ass for purchasing it.

For what it's worth (not much), I also wasn't totally impressed by the Braid demo. But I went ahead and bought it based on all the stellar reviews, finished the game, and... I don't really think it was worth $15. (Bear in mind the fact that I'm cheap, and seldom spend over 20 bucks on any game.) The puzzles are mostly very clever, and extend far beyond just going backward in time. But it's really pretty short (there are sixty puzzle pieces total), there's not a lot of replay value, the writing is absolutely terrible, and the story is a mixture of some neat elements and some downright silly elements. I also think the look of the game is overrated; it's very pleasant, but nothing astounding, and the Mario/other old-school game "homages" are just stupid and unnecessary.

Finally tried the Braid demo tonight. I'm with dtcarson. Seemed pretty cool but nothing spectacular. I'll wait for a sale or price drop.

Then there's Galaga. The demo didn't bowl me over but I dropped the 800 points anyway and I can't stop playing it. I'm in third place among DVDtalkers behind Pixy and Troz.

The same would happen with Braid, trust me. It's only fifteen freaking dollars for an amazing experience and piece of art - I've spent more on pizza...

I ate a free lunch one day two weeks ago in the cafeteria instead of going out for lunch. I told myself -- "There, you've saved your precious $5 that you were agonizing over. Now go get Braid." I'm glad I did.

I think they should have picked different levels for the demo. It doesn't do enough to give people an idea of the anything but the basic levels.

I don't disagree, but the difference being Galaga has a MUCH higher replay value. I'll save it for a rainy day purchase.

xmiyu - I see you've been picking up Pac-Man lately(only one on my 90+ friends list), so I decided to hop in and top your score, just so you have something to shoot for.

There are 2 modes:

1) Adventure Mode is the game. 5 areas with 4 or 5 levels in each area with 6 or 7 or so "sets" in each level. The point is to get from the beginning to the end. If you look at the achievements, you can see how they scale the points based on how far you get. You can't start mid-game.

2) Challenge Mode allows you to concentrate on 1 of the 5 areas at a time for both practice and score. This is where you can "start" from level 2.

It's a game of memory and reflex and will take time to progress, little by little, until you build up a good start-to-end run.

Finally realized you can deploy "satellites" last night. Made the game a heck of a lot easier and my score almost doubled from its previous high.

^ Did you not have to watch the tutorial first? That's the first thing the demo of the game (not sure if the full version allows straight jump-in) made me do.

For which mode? And what's the score?

Low 200k I think. I dropped in a 300k run for good measure. I'm out of practice though. That's about 80k below my high.

ahh, I think my high score is like 350k, I'm sure I'm below you, but if xmiyux had beaten my high score that would have been pretty sad.

Yeah, Troz is the only one above me on my list. He has over 400k.

So my plan of waiting till everyone else had moved on and then creeping my way up the leaderboards has been killed!

I am actually pretty terrible at the game but i seriously enjoy playing it. I just can't get good patterns in my head and when it starts running pretty quickly i find myself screwing up some of the quick turns.

Iirc my high score was around 280k? Or was it 230k? Now that the mean Draven fellow said low 200s i'm unsure.
