As much of a Nintendo nerd as I am I've always greatly disliked the Donkey Kong Country games.

Of course, Retro Studios is not Rare, so.. I'm not sure what to do here.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Soooo....I had bought Super Smash Bros for the wifey's birthday about a month and she finally got around to playing it. We eject New Super Mario Bros, and then try to put in SSB, doesn't take it. Play with it for a little bit, and then try SMB again, doesn't take that either. We've had the Wii maybe a year (maybe 2) and used it a handful of times after the first 3-6 months. It's hard to believe the disc drive is already fuxored. Any ideas?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl uses a dual-layer disc due to the size of the game data. Nintendo of America has stated that some Wii consoles may have difficulty reading the high-density software due to a contaminated laser lens. Nintendo is offering a free repair for owners who experience this issue

Still can't get NSB to work? Might try buying the cleaning kit if none of your games are working. It's like $10.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Thanks for the information, I do appreciate it. But...the disc isn't being taken automatically by the Wii, so it doesn't even make it to the "not reading" option(tried it on several discs after to boot). So, I don't think the cleaning kit would do any good, or am I missing something?

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

It sounds like it must be the drive, than. The good news is that a repair is around $60 shipped, compared to the $120 it would be for an xbox fix.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Can anyone recommend any Wii games in the vein of Twilight Princess? Looking for quest type games with challenges. Anything worthy on the Wii?

Okami - one of the best Zelda games since Ocarina.

Ditto.

It's also a very long game - you will definitely get your money's worth with Okami.

I recommend playing it on the PS2 if available, but the Wii version is terrific as well.

True, I think I put in 60 hours of Okami. Worth every penny.

+1 for Okami. Epic Mickey may also work for you.

I have Okami, but have never played it. I'll make it a priority.

I just picked up Epic Mickey last night and it does seem somewhat Zelda like so far.

How's that priority working out for you?

I'm still playing Donkey Kong Country Returns, but Okami is next on the list.

Just curious. It's probably my second (or third depending on how you look at it) favorite game on the Wii behind Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.

Yeah, I had heard nothing but good things about it; so there's a reason it's in my collection, even though I've never played it

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

^ Keep in mind, as much as I loved Okami (in my top-10 of all time), it does start off pretty slow - it doesn't get good until a few hours in, then a few hours after it gets good, it gets great, and stays great for quite a while, before dipping a bit, but then ending very strong. FWIW, the game is roughly 30 to 40 hours, depending on how much you explore and such.

I concur with that assessment. I dropped another 20 hours after finishing just doing quests and finding hidden stuff.

I posted this in the game deals thread, but this really is a great deal, so I'll post it here too:

Third Party Wii remote and chuck + game for $35 (pick from list of games including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Epic Mickey, Mario Kart and NSMB).

Looks like some of the higher end games have an additional cost added on. Super Mario Galaxy 2 + $25, Epic Mickey + $35, etc.

That is a recent addition. There wasn't an additional cost when I posted the link.

I concur, they "fixed" it at some point.

I got in on this a few weeks ago and am kicking myself now that I didn't order two of them.
