Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

The Zelda "formula" was more or less perfected with Twilight Princess. It was refined to the point that you could argue that it was boring. You'd be wrong IMO, but I get the argument. Still, I'd be ecstatic to get another one...hopefully with some new twists.

Mario Galaxy was pure magic...my favorite game this generation...so more of that is definitely a good thing.

I adore Metroid and am excited for Other M...but I'm also skeptical. Let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic. I loved the Prime series.

It could be a great year for Nintendo, as long as you weren't looking for new IPs.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Since these are summer releases, what are we guessing for Christmas? Zelda, Kid Icaras, Pikmin?

Hopefully a good Starfox game.

I went ahead and preordered SMG2 on Amazon after seeing a screenshot of a possible Delfino Galaxy.

I saw pink, blue, and black wiimotes (Nintendo brand) at Walmart today.

Not sure when they were released.

Realized the pink ones were released when walking down the aisle and my wife starts going ooohhh the Wiimote is in pink now. She saw the thing immediately and I'm sure she will buy one.

Anyone think they'll crank out another 2D Mario game before the end of the year? I mean, the last one sold tremendously, and it's a relatively simple game to design, so making a new one quickly would be like printing their own money.

No. With Galaxy, Other M and potentially Zelda, Nintendo has exhausted their schedule for about 18 months.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Galaxy 2 looks incredible to me. The Wii was worth every penny for me solely due to Galaxy, I enjoyed it that much. I'm just not much of a gamer (time, etc.) and Galaxy brought back everything I loved about video games as a kid. Can't wait for the new one. I even picked up Sunshine as I never had a GameCube and after a rocky first couple of hours, I really enjoyed that game and rate it right up there with Galaxy.

But Galaxy2 and Other M are both coming out early in the summer, that leaves the fall and christmas time wide open.

If they don't have much for that last quarter, they wouldn't blow their wad so soon in the summer.

I'm really, really shocked SMG2 is coming out before E3. That's pretty epic and leaves E3 wide open for something huge, especially with Metroid just after it.

Zelda. Actually, the Wii is the first time since the NES that two core Mario games have graced the same system, and here we are getting a third game. I just can't wrap my head around four Mario games in one generation.

Other than that, Pikmin 3 is the only known franchise game in the works. I think a Luigi's Mansion sequel might have been mentioned a while back, but I can't remember.

I know it's too early for E3 talk but Silicon Knights and Dennis Dyak have been awfully quiet since Too Human tanked. Here's hoping they've been hard at work on Eternal Darkness 2 and not wasting their time with continuing with the Too Human trilogy. Personally, I hope it is held for the WiiHD, but damn I'd be all over that in a heartbeat. Imagine a sanity effect that makes your display look SD... the horror!

I'm just saying that another 2D Mario might be possible only because it's cheaper and quicker to develop than most any other (non-mini-game) Nintendo franchise, and will earn just as much money as the expensive ones.

With Mario kart, wii fit, and wii play repeatedly showing up on top 10 lists, Nintendo really doesn't need to release more than 1 game during the fall. Their games have a long shelf life.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I noticed a used copy of Resident Evil Zero for the Wii at Gamestop and apparently the with the Wii control scheme added into the mix. I bought the Gamecube version but I couldn't deal with the controls after having played RE4 for the Wii. The Wii controls made RE4 a pleasurable experience and I'm wondering if they can do the same for REZero.

Has anyone tried REZero with the Wii controls?

Has Nintendo stopped making the Wii Play bundle? I've looked everywhere and can't find a copy. It's only a game plus a controller so I have a hard time understanding why they're not available unless they've been discontinued. Also where the hell are the Wii Fit Plus Boards? They've disappeared off the face of the earth as well, yet somehow remain the #2 best seller on Amazon despite never being in stock.

I've seen the Wii Play bundle at my local Target. As far as Wii Fit Plus, I believe it uses the same board as Wii Fit. Only the software is different.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Is any one as mystified as I am as to why Nintendo has put zero effort into updating or refining the Wii Channels or the interface in general?

The Wii has limitations. We know them well by now. Given the constraints of the system, what do you believe Nintendo could do tomorrow that would make you turn on your Wii and perhaps rekindle your interest in the platform beyond waiting for the next Mario/Zelda/Metroid.

Forget about the games or the lack of them. That has been dissected enough.

The ability to customize your Wii Home page or more customizable Miis is something small granted but it keeps the system "fresh".

Zero effort is what Nintendo is all about. They only want something to work. They never care about making it the way we want or making it work better. Wiiware and Dsiware in general are examples of good enough. If Nintendo doesn't see huge profit in it they have little interest. The fact the dlc is locked to your Wii and DSi is one of the laziest things I have ever seen. They are 10 years behind in every way possible.

That's the only thing that makes them money, though. Unless they go on some kind of avatar-clothing spree. Otherwise, why would they care that you're turning on the Wii, if you're not spending money with them (either on downloads or retail games)?

Having said that, I'm having a blast with Shiren and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and I'm looking forward to Monster Hunter, and I don't think any of them really use the wii features extensively. I don't mind that.

If you have a Costco nearby, check there. I got it last year for about $43.

I think that by introducing new or additional or updated features that it would turn into more Wii sales.

I don't know. Nintendo's logic is beyond me at this point. Why does the USA not have a black version of the Wii yet?

Because they can't keep the white one in stock, they don't see the need to introduce the black one here? I don't get it. They seem to be stifling their own innovation and game development on purpose. Reggie says they don't see the need for HD. OK. Fine. Have they even tried to develop an HD game and seen the results?

Its like not offering cruise control on cars because people don't "need" it.

Reggie-the-automaker says: Cruise control?? People are perfectly fine holding the pedal down plus if we offered it we couldn't keep up with demand so phooey on that.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

HD isn't a big deal in Japan (last I heard). HD wasn't as big a deal in the US when the Wii launched 3.5 years ago either. I know people have speculated the Metroid: Other M footage appeared to be in 720p, so it's certainly possible they're capable of developing titles that have the next gen Wii in mind.

There's no way the next Wii won't have HD capabilities. E3 is coming up soon, but I doubt there'll be any new home console unveiled. Frankly, I doubt I'd care either way and that's a sad thing for an old Nintendo die-hard like me to say

Its sad. E3 last year revealed the heart monitor thingy. They told us to wait and see what they had in store.

OK. I've been waiting but I see this peripheral going over about as well as the WiiSpeak did. Nintendo one-offs its potential capabilities in Animal Crossing and then its rendered usless.
