Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
I got a card in the mail from Amazon for $10 off Wii Sports Resort. It has a unique 16 character promotional code.
$45.99 - $10.00 = $35.99 (and I have a Prime membership
).
Not bad.
It says it expires on 9/15/09
Thanks Amazon!

I got the same card in the mail today, but I already purchased it from Amazon. Might be worth an email to see if they can apply the discount after the fact.

I got a coupon for Punch-Out (which I didn't need) but I haven't gotten one for Wii Sports Resort yet.
I'll take a second giveaway if it comes up.
Actually, if I still have the Punch-Out one, I'll trade.

Oh, I checked out VirtuaTennis with WM+ last night. Pretty solid. It's better than Wii Sports Tennis, but I'll stick to my analogs/360 version. The mechanics of aiming your shots is cool as well as being about to slice and topspin shots. Since you actually have control over your shots now it seemed like this would give you a lot more of a workout than WS Tennis once you get into the flow of the game.
One thing I did notice though is that it didn't differentiate between a backhand and forehand which is disappointing. For example the ball could be coming to the right of my player but I could physically do a backhand and the player would still hit the ball (and vice versa for left side/forehand) instead of missing.
Like Wii Sports Tennis you don't control your player, which is actually kinda nice. It's especially nice in VirtuaTennis where players seem to trip on their shoelaces every other play in other versions. I didn't wade too far into the game but it seemed to lack any depth that the PS3/360 versions have like building up a player, mini-games and career modes. This seemed like it was just a stripped down version with your basic match types for the Wii crowd.

So I had to wait at the pharmacy this evening while they filed a prescription and I picked up a copy of Nintendo Power to pass the time. Flipping through it, I learned of the following games that I must get:
- There's a remake of A Boy and his Blob coming. I never played this one all the way through on the NES, but I remember renting it or borrowing it from a friend at one point and enjoying it. This remake could be really good.
- Here's the opening line of the preview of La-Mulana: "If Indiana Jones burst into a Metroid-style nonlinear adventure, you'd end up with something like La-Mulana." The article says it's already available on the PC -- has anyone played it? Is it as good as that description makes it sound?
- I already knew about Dead Space: Extraction, but this reminded me about it. Me want!
- Not a must buy, but Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers looks gorgeous from the photos. I've never played a Crystal Chronicles game, but this intrigues me.

Bought Nyx's Quest and it is very good so far. Reminds me a bit of Lost Winds with the platforming and using the Wii remote to control stuff on screen. Seems worth the 1000 points so far.

Not sure where to ask, but since it is Wii related, I'm going to post it here.
My Wii is disconnection my wireless router (Linksys) Anyone know why, and what do I need to do to stop this?

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
The Wii is disconnecting from the router or the Wii is causing the router to lose connectivity to the internet and affecting all other clients on your network?

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Nope. I remember that this happened with the PS3 too, but that was fixed with some adjustment to the router settings. I noticed about the Wii doing this after I did the last system update to it. And I know it is the Wii, because since I disconnected it, the router has been functioning as normal. I know the Wii tries to search for internet connection when it is on standby.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
If the router was doing its job, though, the Wii wouldn't have to search for an internet connection.
All the Wii troubles I've ever heard of never affected other clients. The solutions then seemed to be fixing your wireless channel to either 1 or 11, nothing in between and not "auto".

Is your router compatible?
Routers with known compatibility issues with the Wii console:
In working with dozens of wireless routers, both here at Nintendo and with our consumers, we have determined the following wireless routers to likely be incompatible with some or all of the Wii's online features.
Belkin
F5D6231-4 vers. 1000
F5D7230-4 vers. 4000
F5D8233-4 vers. 1022 (likely not compatible for playing against other players)
