Maybe but MS wasn't the top dog last gen. Not even close... by a long shot. MS managed to push almost half the total number of original Xboxes in just a year. That's damn impressive. Sony matching the loser of last gen is impressive? Talk about "spin."

Might be a different story if Sony managed to get the PS3 out a year before the 360.

It was supposed to be out. They had an extra year to polish launch titles and have more ready to go. They could have also beefed up their "Live" features and a better PSStore in that extra year, but they didn't. They made their bed...

Are they ever going to fix their download speeds? I hate having to leave the system on overnight just to download a damned demo. Any plans Sony has for the PSN Store are a joke until the speed issue is resolved.

Demo's for me are usually downloaded in under an hour. 40 mins or so is the norm

Wow, it's never taken that long for me. I downloaded Burnout Paradise under 20 minutes, probably closer to 15.

I downloaded it on xbl also and it actually took a little longer, probably around 30 or so.

What time are you trying to download and are you downloading anything else
while doing so? I don't have these speed issues that I keep reading about here.
Granted I'm not downloading at prime times, rather midnight or later, but just
last night I downloaded the new free add-on and download packs for Folklore
(100mb), The Club demo (1749mb), Devil May Cry 4 demo (640 mb), Conflict
Denied Ops demo (989 mb) and the Turok demo (1133 mb) all in under an hour.
I have a friend who has the slow issue, but it's due to his always downloading
on the PC at the same time (hence my asking if you might be having this issue).

My download speeds are hit and miss...but more the MISS part of it

I think the 200MB Ape Quest PSP game took a good 45 minutes or so. I have mine hooked up WIRELESS, so not sure if that makes a difference.

I download around 10-11pm (never on thursdays) and it's always slow. I'm wireless, but the PS3 is a foot from the router, so I get 100% signal. My service, insightbb, is 10MB down so that isn't the issue either.

The last thing I downloaded was the Burnout demo which went like this:
Live: 15 minutes
PSN: 1 hour*

*I forget if that included installation

I've rarely had a slow connection since getting my ps3 back in Dec 06. I have it wired right in since the router is next to it. no complaints here.

It took me a day to download The Club demo, that included overnights. Overnight the speeds pick up substantially, but during the day they crawl like you wouldn't believe.

XBL maxes out my connection, PSN barely makes a scratch.

If the PS3 is a foot from the router, why not use a wired connection? That seems like a nobrainer if you're going to complain about speed.

I have the same internet service and I could make the demo myself faster than I can download it.

What good would that do exactly? It isn't the wireless thats causing the horrible download speeds.

Maybe their servers are regional, I know Florida/Georgia servers would be harder hit and more busy than say Wyoming.

If it's 100% strong what's the difference?

Might as well run a PS3 vs PS3 download test. I imagine there'd be no difference (mine is "wired" to a wireless bridge and slow as hell), but stranger things have happened.

Mine is wired and it still takes a really long time to download things compared to Live.

Okay, so I encountered a somewhat-common problem with my new PS3...it stopped reading BD discs. After trying a lot, I am returning it.

However, I connected my external USB hard drive, and did the 'backup' of the files onto the hard drive. My question now, is, with the new PS3, will all of my game data be saved? (i.e. my COD campaign status, and my multiplayer online status).

Will my PSN tag work with the new PS3, and will I be able to retrieve my online information (ie, my rank in Call of Duty).?

Thanks!
-Stephen

That's fucked up. Just last night I was trying to watch Rocky Balboa(BD) and it wouldn't read. It finally did on the second try but it froze about an hour in and ended up skipping a scene. Tried to rewind and reload the chapter, but no dice. There wasn't a scratch on the disc. Hopefully it was a one time occurrence.

"Satin Silver" PS3 coming to Japan, silver Dual Shock 3 sold separately: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/05/...-on-march-6th/

I've been meaning to import a white DS3, but just haven't gotten around to it yet ... maybe I'll get the silver instead.

Whites cooler, Silver reminds me too much of the Playstaterang.

ahh hell. I guess I will pop in a couple later and give it a try. I've got the 60GB and don't have a PS2 so hopefully I won't miss out on BC if mine craps out.

Wow, had no idea it was starting to become a common occurrence. My PS3 has officially lasted a year which is longer than any PS2 ever lasted so I'm hoping. I have used mine a lot, but I'm glad I have the Sharp now for BD movies in case I start getting the disc read errors.

I'm in the Boston area, I'd imagine that would be harder hit than a FL/GA
server. I'm also wired in, the friend who has the slow issues uses wireless.
