I too have the official Sony remote and it isn't necessary to "turn it off"... it turns off by itself after a while and wakes up on the first button press.

Why doesn't the controller do that?

Probably because you don't want it shutting off while playing a game... I'm sure that responsiveness would suffer if it had that type of functionality.

... the 360 doesn't have that problem. It shuts off after a few minutes of inactivity.

My 360 controller didn't shut off after a few minutes of activity. It took between 20-30 minutes before it did.

the point still stands.

That sounds wrong anyway. I think it is closer to 10 mins.

They are on a never ending quest to find that magical sku that sells millions.

But seriously, it's rumored there is a white PS3 on the way with a 120GB drive that comes with the new Dual Shock 3. Then again one of the head honchos has said that the lower priced sku is the one that sells, so they could be dropping this whole '2 skus' concept all together.

Since there's no longer a BC SKU anyway I think they should do exactly that. Put in the DS3, bump the HDD size up a bit, sell for between 300-400. Keep it simple.

New (this week) PS3 owner here.

About 3 hours ago I started downloading the Gran Turismo demo and a couple of HD movie trailers. In the meanwhile I was watching Casino Royale.

After finishing the movie, the Gran Turismo demo was barely at 2% complete.

Does downloading stop while watching a movie? It just seems weird.

Thanks.

Yeah, if you use the BD or DVD player it can't download in the background. Wish they could change that.

That's one of my very few complaints.

This is because the PS3 logs off the internet when you watch a movie (and logs back in when you stop the disc). This started happening after one of the previous updates due to many people having problems with Blu-rays freezing during play. Logging off seemed to solve the problem, but I assumed it would be a temporary fix. What will happen when discs start having features that require a connection to the internet?

According to Adam's Saw IV review, the PS3 will require an update in order to have Blu-rays connect to the internet.

And how little sense does that make, since the PS3 itself can connect to the internet?

I got a PS3 for my birthday on Saturday. I'm in the process of moving, and so my HDTV is in storage while everything gets situated. So I've got my PS3 and 360 hooked up to a regular SD television using composite cables.

Whenever I use my PS3, there's a low hum coming from the TV speakers and you can see lines scrolling from the bottom of the screen to the top, continuously. It's done this on two different SD TVs with the same cable.

Anyone know what this is? Cable problem? Bad PS3?

I had the same problem too. It's the ground connector on the plug. Just buy a connector for the end that turns it into a regular plug (the 2 prong instead of 3) As soon as I did that, the humming sound was gone.

I have that problem occasionally. I don't know where to begin to look for a problem. I've just chalked it up to the TV at this point. It's a 5 year old rear-projection HDTV. Plus that won't be a fun project to figure out.

If anyone else has any ideas on that particular problem please advise.

Cool. I might head to Radio Shack and grab one of those adapters to see if that works.

those "adapters" should be much cheaper at Lowes or Home Dept (like $.50 or so)

quick question... i just picked up Beyond Good and Evil (PS2 version) and am having a lot of fun playing it. my question however is that i've changed the setting to "progressive" but the image is showing up as a rectangle within my 1080p hdtv. is there another setting i need to change on the ps3 itself to get it scaled properly?

also, when i zoom in with my tv's aspect button, there are still black bars on the side.

thanks.

ps i'm not averse to "black bars," i was just under the assumption that the 16:9 progressive image would scale properly to my tv.

I have Beyond Good and Evil on GameCube. I think that while it is progressive, it's not actually anamorphic widescreen, just letterbox.
