I'm not. I would imagine that anyone who primarily plays guitar would hear the music first, because that's what we are listening for. My drummer hears drums first. It's not a uncommon phenomenon.

What good is a great guitar cover if you can't stand listening to the vocals? Totally kills the song.

LaGrange is another bad one for me. Vocals are terrible.

People want to play what they know. If covers were just as good as the originals, the bar band at the Holiday Inn near the airport would pack in 75,000 people every night.

I'm going to have to go out on a limb and say that would probably be a fire hazard.

I think the vocals are just as, if not more noticable than the guitar.

You are part of the .1% or so of the audience for the game that feels that way. The other 99.9% notice the vocals first.

I'm sure those statistics aren't embellished in any way.

If people would just listen to each track seperately (guitar & vocals), I'd say a HUGE percent would notice different vocals instead of different guitar. If the guitar tone is the same, or real close, they would have to be a real shitbag player to make it that noticable that it was a cover. Vocals on the other hand...how many people sound the same as Ozzy, or Axl, or Bon Jovi, etc...? That's why I said the LaGrange cover was bad, he's not even close.

Also, I HATE Rush, but I enjoy the cover of Tom Sawyer because his voice IS different. It sounds a little more 'manly', lol.

I guess i'm lucky that I don't know most of these older songs, because I don't notice them sounding bad at all

Wait is there a Guitar Hero version of Tom Sawyer? The one in Rock Band is quite posisbly the worst cover this side of the GH2 Rage cover. The RB cover is passable in spots, but the second it gets to the line "Catch the mystery" and he sings it like he's in a Disney advertisement, I lock up and cringe like you wouldn't believe.

Even if 99.9% isn't accurate, even you must admit that you are part of an extreme minority.

I've always gone against the grain Jeremy. With a Rebel Yell, I cry more more more.

With all this talk about bad covers, Tom Sawyer in RB came to my mind. That guy sucks. I really wanted to download Limelight but, I assumed it would be the same guy singing that song too.

Well... I picked up the game a few weeks ago (Mac version); just started Career on Hard. Though I found I can get through some Hard songs once I practice them on Expert...

It could also help Dave get through Holiday in Cambodia.
This is very interesting... gonna have to give it a try.

I finally hooked up and started playing the 360 GH2 I bought 8 months ago.

But it looks like I'll have to get GH3 as well, since I must play Juke Box Hero.

Or does the DLC work for GH2 as well?

Haven't they always been 500 points a pack? $6.25 for three songs. That sounds like the same price I paid for the original GH1 tracks for GH2 back when that first came out. I'm surprised that Activision hasn't attempted to lower their pricing to be more in line with Harmonix's.

On the plus side, they're all masters. Just finished playing them. Pretty much in line with GH3 charts in general. They are welcome additions.

That's interesting since Rock Band's "Juke Box Hero" was a cover.

Now that it interesting. JBH is one of my favorite classic rock songs of all time.

It makes sense. It is because Rock Band needs individual master tracks for all instruments and for each individual drum.

It looks like the PS3 didn't get the new track pack this week.
