I got +22K last night in Holiday in Cambodia (got a surprising 4x streak in the beginning) and +20K in Same Old Song & Dance (I finally got around to learning how to play solo-ette 4 to get that last star power) in my career totals, so now I'm 103K away from my goal. The only songs I think I can make any major strides in now is Cult of Personality and any of the tier 8 songs.

But I'm so far away from mastering that solo in CoP and I'm not getting any better at anything on tier 8.

Rabbit, when I hit 100% on Hard in the first full solo of COP, it was sheer sheer luck. I can't see how you can memorize those patterns like you could on Stricken.

It's pretty much a matter of building up more finger speed - I can 100% the two solos at Expert on Slow in practice, but what I can't do is bring my pinky to tap fast enough at some of the parts at full speed. It's either work on speed with my pinky or slide down to the 3rd position and use my ring finger. I dunno.

The 360 scoreboards has a top score of 968K on Through the Fire and Flames... beating iamchris4life by over 100K. Somebody found a way to glitch scores methinks.

I thought I read that a score of over 1M was possible on that song.

The U2 idea is brilliant and I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. Not Aerosmith, and not the overpriced online downloads that I have no interest in. I know someone said U2 is just "OK," and of course musical taste is a matter of opinion, but you can't really dispute they're one of the biggest rock bands of all time (more Grammy awards than any other band, 170 million+ albums sold, etc.).

I'd much prefer a U2 dedicated Rock Band game than Guitar Hero.

Agreed, but I'd skip it either way.

possible but not bloody likely... there's a very technical thread on scorehero about how difficult each section of the solos are and how the best of the best over there can't FC certain sections. That's not to say there's no one in the whole world that's capable of doing it, but looking at his guitarhero profile, It's just not the profile of someone that could rip off a score of 968K.

If the GH3 leaderboards get borked like the GH2 boards then it's time to move on for me.

CES 2008: Nyko Releasing Guitar Hero III/Rock Band Guitar

The issues between Harmonix and Activision over compatibility between the guitars that ship with Rock Band and Guitar Hero III have been well documented here at Gaming Today. And while it makes for something to do for either company’s lawyers, it’s the gamers that suffer. One way or another, there will be some form of solution for PlayStation 3 owners by March, when Nyko releases the Front Man guitar controller.

The controller will function with both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III by flipping a switch to alternate compatibility between the two games. It’s not the best solution and does require you to buy new hardware, but at least you’ll be able to properly finally rock out in Rock Band on PS3.

The features list:

* Compatible with Guitar Hero III and Rock Band
* Up to 80 hours of continuous play time from three AA batteries
* Wireless technology for cordless gaming up to 25 ft. away
* Built-in tilt sensor & responsive whammy bar
* Bi-directional strum bar
* Responsive and durable fret buttons
* Interchangeable pick guard for custom look
* Unique directional pad design for convenient menu navigation
* Effects switch for Rock Band play

...but for a guitar based game? Joe Perry and Aerosmith is where it's at. U2 would be more more suited for Rock Band.

The only problem with that controller is that it's Nyko, who is synonymous with inconsistency.

I'd be willing to try anything that's not the Harmonix / Fender controller. That thing SUCKS.

And it's a shame. They had a real opportunity with the RB Fender to knock it out of the park on quality and feel, and they failed on both counts. The only thing it has going for it is the size...

By the way, your plate is sitting, primed, with a fan on it so it dries nice and quick. I'll tape it off tonight, start the red layer tomorrow!

You fucking rock.

As for the Fender comment, I agree.

I would be interested in purchasing a premium guitar made of wood for use in RB/GH. I mean, you can buy a Squier strat for $99. Replace the electronics with the game electronics and you should be good to go.

This might make an interesting DIY project...

That is actually kind of surprising that something like that hasn't been done yet, considering all of the high-quality DDR mats out there. There's clearly a market for high-end peripherals for certain types of games.

A how to on modding a real guitar for GH. Personally I'll stick with holding my "small yappy dog" (tip of the hat to Yahtzee). It seems like a ton of work. Painting a faceplate was one thing...this is another.

This was the first song I ran into in career that I repeatedly failed. Don't worry about the change in strum speed, just plow through and alt-strum like a madman.
