Called MS, they said my one year warranty ran out on Jan 8, 2008. I was informed it would be $99 plus tax. I guess I'll bite the bullet and send it in, but I am requesting to get my system back and not a refurb. So I don't have to deal with their DRM for the DLC I have.

It appears that the GHIII soundtrack is now available at BMG music service.
Does anyone know if the cds sold from them would include the code to get the 3 extra tracks?

According to joystiq Activision is going to be releasing two Guitar Hero "add-ons" this Spring, and a full sequel in the Fall. Sounds pretty close to what we heard previously about them whoring out Guitar Hero. Personally, I will at least rent (and more likely buy) all of them. Even though I love Rock Band, in the end it is just about being able to play more songs, even if it won't be the best possible experience.

I'm in the same boat: keep 'em comin' (especially since I am playing on a PS2 and can't download new songs).
I wonder what the pricing of the "add-ons" will be. Although I've been really wanting to get it, the price tag for the 80s one is too steep for me, considering you only get half the songs of a regualr GH game.

I'm all for it. I've stated it before but I'd rather buy something physical with resale/trade/lending options. It's also a hell of a lot easier to find deals on physical releases.

I went to my first live tourney last night with Sundog at the Lion's Head - it was a blast. Sundog made it to the final 4 and I got eliminated by the guy who won it all in the round of 8. He was amazing.
First round we were supposed to do medium only but my opponent and I both decided to do expert - the random song that was chosen was Paranoid, and I think I won by about 100K.
The second round the random song was Sunshine of Your Love and we both wanted to reject it, but the guy running the tournament wouldn't let us change. I hadn't played the song since like November so I tried just activating star power whenever my opponent did - but that caused me to lose concentration and I lost 228K to 210K.
This was a lot of fun playing comeptetively and quite nervewracking, but now I keep dwelling over my loss and want to avenge it! I definitely learned a couple things - (1) I need to learn to play better standing up, and (2) to focus only on my own game. The only gripe was the second controller I had to use was this and the buttons were further apart than my X-Plorer and I flat out whiffed on a few chords. I definitely wished they had 2 Les Pauls.
They're doing it weekly until the 28th so I think I'm going to go back on the 21st and try to win again. The grand prize is a real guitar and a PS3 so that would be sweet.

Here's the latest rumor that popped up a couple days ago from a band who has supposedly done a song for GHIV. Here's what they posted on their site as far as unconfirmed songs for GHIV:
That is a hell of a list, and definitely good to see potential Zep & AC/DC, but I can't help but be a bit disappointed at the recycling of artists. We have 50 years of rock to pull from and we get the same dozen artists in every game? Kinda weak if you ask me no matter how great the songs are.
Definitely not worth getting hyped about either way since this is about as far from official as it gets.
Still fun to speculate.
Here I Go Again: Whitesnake
Back In Black: AC/DC
B.Y.O.B.: System Of A Down
Aerials: System Of A Down
Money: Pink Floyd
Little Red Corvette: Prince
Highway Star: Deep Purple
Island in the Sun: Weezer
Walk This Way: Aerosmith

So while I have 5-starred the Slayer song at that difficulty, I won by a close margin: fewer notes hit, but a higher score because of an extra star power or two.
It was fun to play and watch. Some other friends showed. May have to go back next week (sweet drink and food deals on Thursday).

I'm not surprized at the Areosmith repitiion as EGM had the rumor of an Areosmith only game. But some of the repition could be bonus songs like the 2nd Brett Michels songs in III.

Guitar Hero III – DLC Roundup
Which packs and tracks are worth your cash?
by Cam Shea
January 17, 2008 -
If you've played every track in Guitar Hero III to death, it's time to get some fresh blood on your 360. There have been a steady stream of single track and track pack releases since the game's release, but which of the offerings are worth your hard-earned cash? We decided it was high time we went through all the pay-to-play downloadable content for the game and gave you our take.
Please note, we've based our opinions on both the hard and expert difficulty levels.
Warner / Reprise Track Pack
Price: 500 MS points
This pack contains three tracks. They're not available separately so we'll go through the individual tracks then give a yay or nay for paying for the pack as a whole.
Track 1: No More Sorrow – Linkin Park
Pretty catchy track this one. Nice and heavy but with a slightly ethereal melody cruising along above the chunky guitars. It's also pretty straightforward to play – this is power chord heaven and the shifts aren't too hard at all.
Rock-O-Meter: 8/10 | Fun Factor: 8/10 | Difficulty: 6/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Your crusade's a disguise
Replace freedom with fear
You trade money for lives
I'm aware of what you've done
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 2: Sleeping Giant – Mastodon
This six minute epic is one hell of a challenge to get through – partly because of its brutal combination of long wandering single notes and shift-heavy power chord sections, but partly because it can be a little on the dull side. Still, the blazing solo and chunky riffs that follow it do a lot to redeem this one. Be warned though, mastodon too much and you'll get hairy palms.
Rock-O-Meter: 7/10 | Fun Factor: 6/10 | Difficulty: 9/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Earth has burst
Mountain flames
Moon beheld
Father snake
Mind control
Has left its nest
Shame on
Bulls roar loud
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 3: Pretty Handsome Awkward – The Used
Really satisfying notation on this one – lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs, plus a great solo - but not particularly difficult. The song itself balances hard riffs with more melodic sections and vocals which is another reason it's so much fun to play. You might recognise this track from the Transformers movie soundtrack.
Rock-O-Meter: 8/10 | Fun Factor: 8/10 | Difficulty: 6/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Your dream vacation is my hostage refuge
A work in progress you bleed
Just like you puke while running a mile
I beg to differ, make me an offer
Warm summer rain you bleed
Just like you puke while running a mile
Is The Pack Worth The Cash?
Yes, but it's not essential.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ernten Was Wir Saen - Die Fantastischen Vier
Price: 200 MS points
Epic and catchy as hell. We may not be able to understand what they're saying (aside from the one section in English which we've highlighted below) but it's so much fun we don't care. The notation is spot-on too – really well mapped and satisfying to play thanks to plenty of variation over the course of the song. Wailing guitars, anthemic vocals, this is one of the best tracks available for download. Good luck nailing it on expert though. Eight minutes of insanity.
Rock-O-Meter: 8/10 | Fun Factor: 9/10 | Difficulty: 9/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Yes, yes, yaw, yaw! I'm a hell of a man!
I'm walkin', walkin' down the street and hear you, hear you saying: "Damn!
I wanna, I wanna be like Smudo, too,
makin', makin' rap records, saying, saying 'F**k you'!"
Is The Track Worth The Cash?
Yes, yes and yes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Payaso – Extremoduro
Price: 200 MS points
This track is from 1996 and it's nowhere near as heavy as some of the other tracks on offer for download. We're talking a natural sounding lead guitar and lots of noodling. So while this is a lighter option for those O.D.ing on metal it's pretty laidback and not all that challenging until you get to the final face-melting solo.
Rock-O-Meter: 5/10 | Fun Factor: 6/10 | Difficulty: 6/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Quiero ser tu perro fiel
Tu esclavo sin rechistar
Que luego me desato y verás
A ver que me dice después
Lyrical Hilarity According to Babel Fish:
I love to be your faithful dog
Your slave without rechistar
That soon I untie and you will see
See that says to me later
Is The Track Worth The Cash?
No, unless you're a huge fan of the band.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Antisocial – Trust
Price: 200 MS points
This track from 1980 is a classic, plain and simple. Its punk-metal attitude transcends language (although even English speakers are able to join the chant-along section. Say it with me: "AN-TI-SOCIAL! AN-TI-SOCIAL!") making it a blast to play along with. Slower sequences explode into hard-edged metal, the solos wail, and this is generally just catchy and anthemic. Probably shouldn't pose too much of a problem to the pros but we found it quite difficult in places.
Rock-O-Meter: 9/10 | Fun Factor: 7/10 | Difficulty: 8/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Lyrical Hilarity According to Babel Fish:
You bumps all your life to pay your tomb stone,
You masks your face by reading your newspaper,
You steps a such robot in the corridors of the subway,
People are not touched, it is necessary to take the first step,
You would like to dialogue without returning the ball,
Impossible to advance without your waistcoat avoid-ball.
You would like to give eyes has
Imposssible justice to rape this woman full with defects.
Is The Track Worth The Cash?
Boo-yah! (Yes, in other words)
Velvet Revolver Pack
Price: 500 MS points
This pack contains three tracks. They're not available separately so we'll go through the individual tracks then give a yay or nay for paying for the pack as a whole.
Track 1: She Builds Quick Machines
Really driving groove in this one with densely packed power chords requiring rapid shifts. Nice mellow melodic breakdown in the middle followed by a long – and hard - quintessentially Slash solo.
Rock-O-Meter: 7/10 | Fun Factor: 6/10 | Difficulty: 8/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Hold fast little love
Burn strong let it roam
Ice cold desert snow
She built a quick dream
Says to keep a motor clean
So this is kind of weapon sheen
She's always quick to find
We'll break it through the night
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 2: Slither
A heavy, catchy track with yet another driving groove and yet another quintessentially Slash solo. Great fun to play – the main groove moves between power chord-heavy sections and sequences that demand plenty of dexterity roaming across the fretboard and stretching from green to orange, while elsewhere there are rapid note sequences and an incredibly challenging solo. Very difficult.
Rock-O-Meter: 9/10 | Fun Factor: 9/10 | Difficulty: 9/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
When you seek me
You destroy me
Rape my mind and
Smell the poppies
Born and bloodied
Every single time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 3: Messages
The weakest link of this track pack, Messages is a cheesy ballad, plain and simple. This is also by far the easiest track in the pack, but it can actually be quite fun to play as a relatively laidback alternative to the harder Velvet Revolver tracks.
Rock-O-Meter: 3/10 | Fun Factor: 6/10 | Difficulty: 4/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Lost in a world that's quickly going mad
A human missile streaking to the ground
Angels and the demons fight to save the lives
While all the others cry
Is The Pack Worth The Cash?
Yes, but it's not the ideal selection.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Foo Fighters Pack
Price: 500 MS points
This pack contains three tracks. They're not available separately so we'll go through the individual tracks then give a yay or nay for paying for the pack as a whole.
Track 1: The Pretender
Great song, pity it's not that much fun to play. The Pretender suffers badly from repetition, particularly the long sequences of power chords which only require basic slow shifts. Again, love the track but this wasn't a good choice for Guitar Hero III.
Rock-O-Meter: 8/10 | Fun Factor: 4/10 | Difficulty: 6/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones come marching in... again
They need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are at the ready
Are you ready?
I'm finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole... defense
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 2: All My Life
Nice discordant rock track this one. Several shifts from subdued to full bore. Again, can be a little repetitive in places, but the power chord sections are satisfying to play and there are moments of super fast picking that will keep you on your toes.
Rock-O-Meter: 8/10 | Fun Factor: 7/10 | Difficulty: 7/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Come down don't you resist
You have such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Something to hold when I lose my grip
Will I find something in that
So give me just what I need
Another reason to bleed
One by one hidden up my sleeve, one by one hidden up my sleeve
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Track 3: This Is A Call
Another awesome, supremely catchy Foo Fighters track, and this is the pick of the bunch in terms of gameplay too. Really challenging to play with lots of tight power chord shifts and much more variety than a song like The Pretender.
Rock-O-Meter: 9/10 | Fun Factor: 8/10 | Difficulty: 8/10
Lyrical Hilarity:
Fingernails are pretty
Fingernails are good
Seems that all they ever wanted was a marking
Them balloons are pretty big
And say they should
Ever fall to ground, call the magic marker
Is The Pack Worth The Cash?
Just. Love the songs but they're not all suited well to the game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there you have it – all the pay-to-play DLC currently available on the Australian service. While most of the content is worth playing, it's far less iconic than we'd have hoped – we want more classics! Still, it is good to see a few non-English language tracks on offer for other audiences around the world, especially when they're so much fun to play. It's also good to see that all the tracks on offer are based on Master recordings.

Well, I have been trying to beef up my expert score a bit and five star all of the songs. Cliffs of dover is just brutal. I can usually get 95% of the solo/intro/anything else, but the main song just kills me. I also can't get anywhere close to a decent score in that killers song, it just isn't quite on beat and even though I hit 97-98% I'll still have less than a 100 note streak. I play perfectly in sync with the drums and bass, but I keep getting completely off and have no idea how they play that one or how people can keep on beat with how off it is.

Ok. hooked up a smaller stereo to my tv, and it turns out the audio is completely out of sync, not just the LCD part of it and it cannot be calibrated. Went out and picked up a new tv yesterday and I have been killing my old high scores, some I've added over 100,000 points, some have gotten 50k+. Amazing I could even play with the audio AND video being that off. I posted on here about how off it seemed when I got the TV but figured it just needed to be calibrated. I remember pretty much giving up on GH II after I bought the TV. I guess I know why now.

not yet. Even though I do have a better score than you in at least one song. Gonthegh will have his work cut out for him though (if you even play anymore). I am having trouble adjusting but overall it is positive. I only have raining dover left to five star and still could easily boost my overall score quite a bit. I went from ranking in the 25,000 range in expert to 6,000 in one day. not bad!

I made some pretty good strides with Cult of Personality - there's just two parts left I can't hit. I really hope to FC this puppy by the end of the month. I can FC in practice on slow so it's just a matter of building up speed. I wish there was a speed setting between full speed and slow in practice.

.I've been playing some online a bit and I really need to figure out some star paths to the more popular songs. I FC'd the weezer song and paint it black, but lost because my star paths were less than ideal.

Is my wireless Gibson dead? I can't get it to turn on, even after I put in new batteries. It's not about connecting to the Xbox, it doesn't even turn on.
In fact, the last time I used it, I set it aside after it apparently died, yet the guitar and the batteries were still very warm after a while.
