River City Ransom is one of the top 3 games I've wanted since I first heard about the VC. Soooooo glad it's finally coming!

glad to see I wasn't the only geek who did this

A couple of years ago I was at my mom's house and found my notebook with my game-by-game stats in it - it took me a minute to realize what it was.

My team was Kansas - Patty and Baker were a regular Mantle and Maris!

Everybody join me in welcoming Interplay to the VC: http://next-gen.biz/index.php?option...10109&Itemid=2

Interplay will be launching the Genesis games Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Boogerman and Clay Fighter on the Virtual Console "later this year."
Cannot wait for Earthworm Jim!

It's too bad that they're releasing the Genesis versions of Earthwork Jim - I remember the SNES versions of Earthworm Jim (1 and 2) being far superior - same with Clayfighter.

Wonder if they will release both Clayfighter and the tournament edition that was rental only, or, just one or the other.

I think Clayfighter is one of those "but this was so awesome when I played it 10 years ago" games.

The novelty even wore off then. If they had demos on VC games, a 2 character 1 round demo would be enough of a nostalgia trip. I hope they bring Lost Vikings too, that was a good one.

The Genesis version of Earthworm Jim was superior to the SNES version. It featured more animations, better sound effects and even had an extra level. The reason for this was that the first game was developed specifically for the Genesis and was later ported the SNES.

Compare the two versions on youtube - the Genesis version has some more animations, but the SNES has more detail and better colors. And the SNES controlled a lot better and was much more responsive - the controls on the Genesis were a lot more floaty. But whatever, I got rid of my Genesis a long time ago, and I still have my SNES and all the games.

Has there been any indication that portable system games (DS, Gameboy, etc...) will ever come to the VC?

Nothing official. DS would appear to be a technical impossibility, not to mention a financial blunder when the DS still exists. Notice that Square-Enix also doesn't release to the VC because of the ability to resell the same games over and over on newer systems. Why give DQ4 away for $5 on the VC when a DS version will run $40 and sell many more copies.

GB/GBC/GBA (in diminishing order) make more sense for the VC due to the hardware being obsolete and/or harder to come by, but nothing's been mentioned afaik.

Game Gear is an obvious extension now that the SMS is available.

I thought about the issue with DS regarding the fact that the system and games are available now and it would be stupid to release them on the VC... but why would it be a technical impossibility?

The DS could work... sort of. Other than the microphone, which isn't used that much anyways, the other DS features could be done. I don't think the Wiimote-as-a-stylus-replacement would work very well for most games though.

That being said, there is no way that we'll see DS games on the VC.

Ok, not "impossibility", but as Jeremy said, taking the 2.5" lcd with a stylus that you can work quickly and accurately on to a main display, many feet away, with spotty pointer accuracy at best just wouldn't translate well.

It's one thing when you port a DS game (like Trauma Center) to the Wii and utilize a single, full screen. But if the DS version of TC was available on the VC, you'd have to show both screens meaning your touch area would be about 1/6 of the total tv screen, center on the bottom half.

It just wouldn't work.

Ok, I can see that. I don't have any of the portable systems (I used to have a GBA) and I forgot the DS had the 2 screens.

Why did they not release Super Mario Kart from the SNES today? Great day to tie it in to MK Wii.

Apparently Capcom came out and said that Bionic Commando will NOT be coming to the VC. They said they would like to but it is out of their hands. Speculation points to
Spoiler:
Hitler being in it and subsequently exploding like a hamster in a microwave.
That would require an M rating and apparently Nintendo doesn't want that on the VC.

As a (very) long time Nintendo fan it always seems to be four steps forward one step back with them. Just little things like this that are very irritating with the company.

I never understood why BC got so much flak with the Nazis being in it. They were still the bad guys.
