Re: The One and Only Virtual Console Thread (Wii)
Anyone else check out Bit Trip Beat? I was really impressed with it. One warning - if you beat one of the three stages and then quit back to the main Wii menu, it doesn't save your progress. Apparently it might save if you make it to the high score list? That's not confirmed AFAIK, but some are claiming that that's how it works.

I HOPE I can have time to check it out this weekend. I've got a date tonight, I'll be in Austin tomorrow and Thursday and already have plans for Friday and most of Saturday. That's NOT including the copious amounts of unpacking and organizing I have to do since I moved last weekend. ARGH.

I think that you are really going to enjoy it, Pixy. Between the 2600 visuals, the electro soundtrack that is created by your gameplay, and the trancelike state that it pulls you into, it seems like it's right up your alley.
Based on my experience, it will be a fun game to play over and over, working towards a higher score. The controls work really well, too - tilting the Wii remote is a surprisingly suitable analogue for an Arkanoid-style dial/knob.

Awesome, I've been pimping it since the first trailer was shown.. sucks that it came out when I'm SO damn busy. I still have Left 4 Dead and Mad World sealed and according to MyGamerCard, the last time I turned my Xbox on for more than Netflix or a fifteen minute XBLA fix was January 30th.

By the way, this is the first game of the BIT.TRIP series.

I feel like Super Punch-Out tends to get overlooked in comparison to the original Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. The sequel is excellent, and while I've still got my original Super NES cart, it's nice to see it coming to the VC.

Hudson is returning to US Virtual Console support with Twinbee and Bomberman 94. Both imports and 700 points. Maybe on Tuesday, but Nintendo doesn't always cooperate with Hudson's release dates.

VC Update for 3/23:
No Super Punch-Out
WiiWare
Pop'Em Drop'Em SAMEGAME (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): SAMEGAME is a simple yet engrossing puzzle game where you must clear matching blocks in sets of two or more. Score high by clearing out more blocks at once. If you manage to clear the entire grid, you can keep on playing with a whole new layout. Getting rid of all those blocks is the key to racking up points. Adjust the difficulty level in a one-player game by trying different grid sizes and multiple colors. Up to four players can face off in any one of three multiplayer modes. “Fame Game,” the most straightforward choice, is similar to the one-player version. “Shame Game” turns the tables by forcing players to go for the lowest score. “Blame Game” is a free-for-all as everyone vies for blocks on one big grid. Choose from different block styles, background graphics and music to customize your playing experience.
Virtual Console
Bomberman®'94 (TurboGrafx16, 1-5 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 700 Wii Points): Bomberman has arrived to restore peace on the planet, which has been split into five parts by an evil hand. In addition to the nine members of the Bomber Family, the character Rooi shows up to lend a hand. Jump on the eggs that appear from destroyed soft blocks and you can ride one of five types of Rooi. Each Rooi has different special abilities—use them well and you'll ride to victory.
DETANA TWIN BEE (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Cartoon Violence, 700 Wii Points): It's the popular vertical-scrolling shooter renowned for its cute and comical world. Here come Twinbee and Winbee on a mission to save the planet from evil alien invaders. Standing in their way are six stages full of goofy enemies. Play as Twinbee in single-player mode, or team up with Winbee in two-player cooperative mode. With powerful attacks like Big Shot, or Twin Attack and Burst Attack in two-player mode, there's plenty of sting in their arsenal. Use your Shot to transform Bells into items with various effects. Stock up on these bad boys to expand your attack range and really have a blast.

No, slop. But I knew about that years ago. It isn't ideal for me. It's rare to get excited for a VC release. Today proves it is even rarer than yesterday...

It's just that there's no telling when a VC game that's released in another region is coming to the US - Castlevania 3 was first out on VC in the UK, and took almost a year to come here.

Re: The One and Only Virtual Console Thread (Wii)
I know, but since Wii's Punch-Out is coming and Super Punch-Out was leaked by the Wii Punch-Out PR, one would assume it's a tie-in. That's all.
I get that the random releases are just that, but occasionally there is a correlation.

Very cool. Guess I'm going to have to buy one of these to try it out. I'm just hoping they get the sound emulation right. That can be a big issue with some MAME emulations.

Maybe they've been holding off on the good VC and Wii-ware stuff, waiting for this update that allows you to play off the SD-card, so people won't be hesitant to buy downloads due to space restrictions. So now hopefully the floodgates will finally open for the good stuff - but I sorta doubt it.

If any of you need a card for the Wii to load up on VC games and stuff, Radio Shack has the sandisk 4GB SDHC for $12.99 and the 8GB SDHC for $19.99 until tomorrow. Is that a pretty good deal on them?
