I save compulsively. I think I wound up with two full screens of saves for the Medical Lab. Good thing, too -- I switched out my plasmids before opening one area and wound up unable to get to it, so I wound up reloading an old save and replaying half the level, since I didn't know if I'd ever be able to return to that level with the right plasmid.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but it pays to do as much research as possible. You get tonics from each different kind of enemy, as well as damage bonuses against them. And if you research them fully, you get an achievement.

I have played through the PC demo twice now and really want this. I'm still worried about my specs though. The demo ran great at 1024X768 with quality on high, but I'm reading posts at GameFaqs that people that bought the final version ended up having to drop their settings much lower. I hate when games do that.

Anyone with the PC version have issues they didn't have in the demo? Hell, anyone get the PC version?

I haven't had any issues hacking yet and I've hacked everything I can. I think I screwed up once early on. Other than that I found them pretty easy. I even added a hacking ability to make them easier. The digital pad is perfect for it.

I have the PC version. The demo and the full game run about the same for me. I didn't run into issues with either. I did load the Nvidia beta drivers that came out the same time as the demo. They are supposed to help performance in Bioshock. I didn't try the game before the drivers, so I don't know how much difference they made. I believe ATI released drivers too.

There are several excellent hacking tonics. One at least slows down the liquid flow, and others lessen the amount of overload or broken tiles (which is useful because without them, some of the harder machines are literally unhackable). Also, if you freeze the machine before hacking it, it also slows down the flow, but I don't know if that works on top of the tonic that does the same thing.

I'm disappointed in the making of DVD. There's no actual behind the scenes footage, it's all just interviews with people in chairs. If they discuss a tech demo, they don't show it. They go through a whole section about concept art on what ended up being the Little Sisters, and we don't get to see any of the concepts. Some of the stories are nice, but there is nothing that will draw you back to it.

Spoiler:
Did anyone get to the part where you get the plasmid that you use to hypnotize the Big Daddys ? It's pretty funny they follow you around like a lost puppy, but watch out they do turn back.
Spoiler:
I have yet to find any plasmid that hypnotizes the Big Daddy besides Enrage... I think I remember there being one in one of the past videos... and I've been looking up and down, through every single inch of Rapture... I'm sure I've missed a few things, but I'll find more my second way through.

I've got the Big Daddy one as well. I got that instead of the enrage one. It has been very useful on a couple of occasions.

Anyone else have trouble finding the Little Sister's sometimes? I was about to leave a section last night, and realized that I only had one of the three little sisters. It took me forever to find the other two. I've missed one or two earlier in the game, so I am going to try to go back and get them so I can get the achievement. Can I still get the achievement if I continue to play through to finish the game, and just go back to an earlier save of the same game, or will I go back before I finish?

Or after I finish, can I work backwards from where I am to get the little sisters to get the achievement?

You only get the Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid by rescuing the Little Sisters instead of harvesting them. If you rescue three (I don't know if it's three in a row or just three cumulative, I've been rescuing them all as a matter of course) you'll find a Little Sister has placed a Teddy Bear in front of the next Gatherer's Garden you go to. The Teddy Bear will have 200 Adam, a plasmid, and some other goodie. AFAIK, this is the only way to get the Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid.

Yep. I got it at early on in Neptune's Bounty.

Thanks for the info, Suprmallet. Someone was asking me about the Big Daddy plasmid, and all I knew was that I got it pretty early on instead of the Enrage one.

I am way past that. I played it again for a short time last night and i think i am close to finishing the game. I play a hell of a lot of FPS games and i am probably most comfortable playing them....maybe thats why i am making it through so quickly. Its a game that i will play over again though to make sure i didn't miss anything. I guess what is disappointing me a little is after playing Oblivion so much in recent months currently clocking in at around 175 hours of game play), any game that only takes a few hours to complete doesn't seem to stand up as well. Bioshock is still very good indeed and the design and production values are very high. I have always wanted them to create more games like Deus Ex where each time you play its a totally different experience. I hope replaying Bioshock will be like this.

small spoiler...

i found the teleport plasma but didn't have any free slots.
went back to where i found the fire plasma for the gatherer's garden, but i can't get it to do anything.
how do i active the gatherer's garden?
what happens when I replace a plasmid? Is there any way to get it back?

Also, how do u know how many little sisters there are?
I'm almost done with the medical ward and haven't encountered one yet.

Fort Frolic is about the halfway point. You can tell how far you are into the game by the number of slots open on the Bathosphere.

I'm guessing you mean the telekinesis plasmid. There is no teleport plasmid.

The gatherer's garden only sells plasmids & tonics, you can't change the configuration there. You can alter the plasmids in yout slots at a Gene Bank. Those are marked on the map with a white dot & colored squiggly lines.

Your plasmids don't vanish into thin air if you replace one. They are stored in your plasmid bank until you unlock more plasmid slots in Neptune's Bounty.

The whole point of finding the telekinesis plasmid was to switch to it immediately to clear the path to Steinman. You may have to reload as I don't recall a Gene Bank in the Medical Pavilion.

You can check how many Little Sisters are on the level in the Start Menu.

It's a DNA Helix.

In terms of the telekenisis plasmid Flay's exactly right:

When you find the telekenisis plasmid, you have to swap it out for either your fire plasmid or your electic plasmid, since you need telekenisis to finish the Medical level and the first Gene Bank isn't until later in the game. I think electricity is more useful, so I got rid of fire, but there are a few points in the level where fire is decidedly useful. First:
Spoiler:
The funeral home is blocked by a chunk of ice, so you need fire to get in, although you can do that before you pick up telekenesis, or come back later once you find a Gene Bank and swap your plasmids around.

Second:
Spoiler:
There's a big pool of oil where you fight Steinman, so if you lure him into that, you can fry him. Of course, there's also a big pool of water where you fight Steinman, so you can fry him that way instead.

How do you get the photo achievements, like the splicers, Rosie, Little Sisters, etc? What is meant by fully research?

There's a camera you have to find in the game, then you can snap photos of your foes.

Assuming you have finished Peach Wilkins fetching task in Neptune's Bounty, you have access to the camera.

Just keep taking pictures of live splicers / Big Daddies / Little Sisters. As you take pictures, the research bar will rise. This increases your damage multiplier, awards speical tonics, points out weaknesses, etc.

Fully researched usually takes filling up that progress bar about 5 times. Centered, action shots will give you more research points and increase your grade for each picture.

Also, remember to research the security cameras, turrets, and flying bots.

OK, thanks. I've been taking pictures throughout, but I wasn't sure what had to be done to get the achievements. Sounds like a set of achievements that are tailor made to get after you complete the game and have time to go back and explore a bit. I'll try to pick up a couple now though.

What are the occurrences of Big Daddies without Little Sisters? I beat down one Rosie in Neptune's Bounty, but the little sister was no where to be found

That's happens often. Big Daddies won't call the Little Sisters out to suck out the Adam unless there are dead splicers on the ground.

You can usually lay waste to some nearby splicers and return momentarily to see a Little Sister with her Big Daddy.

Also, Big Daddies won't attack you if you don't attack them. You can walk right next to them all day long. Unless you are hard up for the money, there's really no advantage to killing a Big Daddy without a Little Sister.
