Simply because you can play GH with a regular controller. Which means the guitar just has each button assigned to one of the face buttons, and strumming is done by pressing up or down on the d-pad.

Supermallet 08-25-07 02:13 AM

That would make sense, except that there were 3rd party guitars made for Guitar Hero I that did not work with Guitar Hero II, which makes me think there's more to it than just plugging in any old controller.

Draven 08-25-07 02:18 AM

I'm hoping they are smart enough to realize that it everyone needs to get along and not screw each other on these controllers.

If these things are not compatible, it's just going to piss everyone off. Which, again, I'm hoping they are smart enough to not do it.

Supermallet 08-25-07 05:13 AM

But just in case they do decide to get proprietary, that's why I'm keeping one of my X-Plorers. :)

The Guitar Hero controller was based on the original PS1 controller, and not the analog dualshock. Also, it has the left directional arrow permanently "depressed" which was what they were checking for on GH2 and why third party GH1 controllers didn't work (until they realized the problem that is).

The big concern I have right now with Rock Band is the fact I don't know the lyrics to about 3/4+ of the songs.

Don't they put the lyrics up on the screen - the challenge is just finding the notes?

That's how Karaoke Revolution works, anyway.

Supermallet 08-25-07 10:46 PM

Yeah, they cannot expect people to know the lyrics to every song they put on there. The lyrics have to show up on the screen.

Canis Firebrand 08-26-07 10:41 AM

The video I saw at E3, or wherever I saw it had the lyrics on the screen scrolling at the top with the notes to hit for the singer.

I'm sure they kept that in the game. It would be hard to know the words to all those songs.

A few new (crappy, AFAIK) songs and info about drum duels. Sounds fun.

MasterofDVD 09-05-07 04:21 PM

Wow....a Garbage song. :) Very nice little surprise. Full Garbage tracks would be something I would buy without any hesitation. I'm glad the music selection just keeps getting more and more diverse. It really will end up being something for pretty much anyone in this game.

18 master tracks from Grateful Dead. :)

They'd be wise to put out a really diverse bunch of downloadable tracks, which I'm sure they will, once it's out. As long as they get their prices rights, I'd buy a lot of different stuff.

MasterofDVD 09-05-07 04:37 PM

So far I appreciate the bands they have announced full albums for but none of them are ones I would buy. I thought how great Aerosmith would be but then they dropped the new/rumor that they would be featured in an upcoming Guitar Hero game.

Full albums are great but selected tracks now and then would kick ass as well.

I'd love to see some DLC from Queensryche or Dream Theater.

Is Thorogood on any of these games? What about Nugent?

You consider The Pixies to be crappy? That's one of the most exciting songs I've heard so far!

Uch, you couldn't pay me to download anything from the Grateful Dead. Thank god they don't have a track in the main game.

Like I said - AFAIK. Not much of a music afficianado.

Some of the songs could be fun...add some variety anyways.

xmiyux 09-05-07 06:09 PM

I'm really hoping to avoid buying either of these games but the master tracks of the Grateful Dead is very close to actually spring for the game. Grateful Dead in a game.

Michael Corvin 09-05-07 06:34 PM

Same here...at first, I thought that post meant there were 18 tracks INCLUDED with the game from them, which would've been enough for me to skip the game entirely, because that would've been 18 songs that could've been from other groups.

Has a final track list for the game been released? Going to reserve this later this month.

Anybody else think it's lame that the Xbox wireless guitar is $20 more than the PS3 one? I guess MS has to make some $ back somewhere.

My understand is it's because the PS3 uses Bluetooth wireless tech, and the 360 uses MS's own tech, which they have to license for the wireless gear.

sad news

Joystiq: Harmonix CEO confirms Rock Band's Xbox 360 bundle guitar is wired

That is such a bad move on their part...so...

Rock Band sale: -1

Guitar Hero III sale: +1

Harmonix = :sad:

flashburn 09-08-07 07:14 PM

Wait, so you won't buy the game just because of a wired guitar? Or are you just saying you are going to pick up the Guitar Hero 3 guitar instead?

Personally I am just going to stick with the Xplorer and wait for reviews for the Rock Band guitar. If the difference really is $20, then I'll just use an extension cord with the wired version.
