anyone have an amazon prime membership they would be kind enough to share? :D i miss the free trials they had this time last year, all of my holiday shopping was covered.

Shagrath 11-01-07 11:48 AM

Tried this today at BB. It's sooooooooooo great! I failed out on drums mad fast, but I've never played drums before and I tried Expert. I did well on guitar and bass and 100%'d the Weezer song (easiest bass line ever).

If I can't get this from GameStop early like Michael Corvin said, I don't know what I'll do. They've already got my $170, so hopefully I can find it at a WalMart early and get a friend to buy it. Otherwise, it's going to BB every day before work to play for an hour or so. It's that damn good!

Draven 11-01-07 11:54 AM

Fucking hell - mine is pre-ordered from Amazon but if I see it in a Wal-mart, I'm getting it.

Of course my 360 is currently in for repair. Goddammit.

No fair, our Walmart never breaks street date :(

Damn you competent stores!!

You take that?

UncleGramps 11-01-07 02:53 PM

According to a Harmonix employee, any copies that are at stores right now are supposedly just the in-store demo versions being accidentally put up for sale:

http://community.rockband.com/vbforu...ead.php?t=6498

If that's the case, why in the world would Harmonix/EA ship the demos in retail packaging? :hscratch:

Yeah, I'm thinking that might just be their cover right now. A couple people at CAG apparently got it, so I'm waiting to see if they got demos or finished products.

And I agree, how hard would it be to put it in different packaging or simply throw a big red sticker on the box "DEMO ONLY".

That looks like an awfully thin box for a game, guitar, and drum set. Even if the drums folded down - that photo looks like the box is no thicker than the GH3 box to its left.

Michael Corvin 11-01-07 03:06 PM

^ I imagine all the X-plorer boxes are actually stacked on top of it.

I've seen other pictures of the box, and it's probably 8x as thick as the GH box.

Somebody who got one at CAG has confirmed they have a demo box, so I'm guessing that's all they are. Weird that stores would get more than 1 demo box, but whatever. Now I can stop worrying about going to Walmart every day to check...that is, until an idiot Walmart employee puts them out on display when they get the actual finished product in next week. :p

there is absolutely nothing in that picture to give you any sort of indication whatsoever as to the thickness of the box.

Supermallet 11-02-07 01:12 PM

True. It could be as thick as several of the GH boxes next to it.

I played the guitar part of this at best buy today. I really did not like the guitar. The neck was really flimsy and the buttons make it really difficult to roll your fingers on notes, or slide up and down to different positions. The GUI was really crappy when compared to GH III, but I'm sure that will just take getting used to. I didn't even know they had ho/po's at first, they are really difficult to notice. I'm still buying this day one for the drumming alone, but I feel I may be disappointed. I hope they prove me wrong...

RudeBoie 11-02-07 11:35 PM

I want to get Rock Band for the PS2 Slim- will I need to get a Multi-tap for it? (Mic + Drums + Guitar)

Also, can someone confirm if RB guitars work on GH 1/2/3 and vice versa? I haven't bought any of the GH's so I want to confirm I'm not gonna be stuck with dead weight.

Supermallet 11-03-07 12:39 AM

RB guitars will NOT work with GH. GH guitars WILL work with RB.

When I first looked at that photo, it appeared that the controller boxes behind it were lined up with the boxes to the left. The RB box looks to be lined up even with the guitar box to its left as well. If the RB box was deeper and the guitar boxes were actually ON TOP of it, then that makes sense. It is too easy to fake photos these days.

flashburn 11-03-07 07:36 AM

So people can stop speculating at the size of the box...

This game is a "gold box special" on amazon.com today. I got it pre-ordered for $161. With no tax, and free shipping, that's quite a deal...

a Best Buy near me had the demo set up ... drums were busted - not sure if it was from playing too rough, but it doesn't make me feel secure about them lasting long

Harmonix guys had people beta-testing the drums 12 hours a day for 3 months straight before their drums wacked out (kick pedal). I'd say it's just excessive roughness from people who don't care about the demo unit, since it's not theirs.

Or the fact that info is coming from the people that are trying to sell a product.

I believe the 1up guys said they had it barely a day before the drums busted.

lordwow 11-03-07 11:53 PM

I played the demo at BB. I played the Bon Jovi song on Medium, nearly aced it on the first time on Guitar on Medium (And I usually play Medium on GH). It was REALLY easy, hopefully hard and expert are more difficult. Medium was like a GH Easy song with 4 buttons.

I don't know what system he was talking about, but it's showing up as $149 right now for PS2.

$169 for the PS3 and 360.

Am I crazy, or was this originally going to cost over $200-250 for the whole shebang? My girlfriend and I were both shocked to see this full set at ~$150.

Of course, we'd be crazy not to upgrade to a 360 for this by the time we're ready to get it. Need to get a new HDTV now too....hmmmmmmmm.
