Seems to me the DLC would make it a major selling point. On the other hand, they could release an expansion for the PS2 with selections from the DLC.
|
I'll chime in with my opinions as well.
I could really care less about wireless guitars or whatnot. I've been playing with wired guitars since GH1 and have had no problems. Having to replace batteries or having them go out in the middle of a song would just suck ass. As for NIN, I'm a huge fan and would definitely enjoy some of their older stuff as well, but the song included will be a blast to play, at the very least. The fact that it's a master track is great as well, and hopefully we'll see more as DLC. |

Currently my consoles are in our family room. Eventually they will be in our home theater downstairs.
In both locations, wired guitars are a pain in the ass to use, due to the length of the rooms and the distance we sit from the components. Not to mention that I'd rather just grab the guitar and go instead of unwinding and untangling the cord, plugging it in and trying to keep my 2 1/2 year old from jumping over the cord and pulling the PS2 onto the floor. And it's 2007 - I maintain I should not have to wire up game controllers anymore. |

Sounds like the guitar will indeed NOT be wireless for 360 and that it's not nearly as high quality as I was hoping it might be. If it's only going to be slightly (if any) better than the GH2 wired, I'm not buying it. There are the 5 lower frets, but honestly, they can't add that much, can they? Their package deal really isn't going to sell too good if you can get the GH3 bundle w/wireless for $100...buying Rock Band and wireless separately will set you back $140. :thmbsdwn: |

To be precise, the 360 does have 4 USB ports available on it (2 in the front, 2 in the back). However, a lot of people use one of the ports in the back for the wireless adapter.

True about the DLC, but maybe that only is an issue for hardcore gamers? Though I would agree that it will definitely be released for PS2, it is not because that is where the "real money" is. Granted, there is a small fortune to be made by releasing it on the PS2...but as Madden and other multiplatform games have shown, the 360 version sells the most units. And with the 360, EA will capitalize on dlc that won't be available on the PS2. So the 360 gets the initial upfront charge from the consumer and a continuing revenue stream via dlc. That is where the real money is... |

Okay, why are they talking about four instruments? Are you able to use two guitars per song, or is there a 4th instrument I haven't heard about? Also, the way they put it, the PS3 version will also have wired instruments, as it mentions you'll need 4 USB slots for the PS3 as well.
|
Yes, 4. Mic, drums, guitar, and bass.
|
Is the bass using a distinct bass controller, or is it just the bass part played on the guitar controller?
If the 360 mic works with this, I may just opt for the game only, and then get the wireless guitar separately (this is presuming the 360 mic plugs into the guitar the way it does with GHII). I didn't realize you were going to need four wired controllers, that's too much. I may just have to skip the drums, or wait till I can find a cheap used set. Also, are we certain the GHIII guitar will work with Rock Band? Will the Rock Band guitar with with GHII? I prefer the design of the Rock Band guitar, but it may be cheaper to buy GHIII with guitar included. |

Okay, so here's what I ended up doing.
I've got 2 wired 360 GHII controllers. I will trade one of them in to go towards my pre-order of GHIII with wireless guitar. I will keep one of the GHII guitars to use with multiplayer on the two games, since I don't see any indication that GHIII will support the Rock Band controllers or vice versa (on Rock Band's website they say they will support the X-Plorer for the 360, but make no mention of the Les Paul). I have pre-ordered the Rock Band bundle, and will trade in the wired guitar towards my reserve on the wireless, and keep the microphone and drums. I may end up using the 360 headset for the vocals, but the microphone will most likely be of higher quality and if I have someone else who wants to sing, I will be able to rock out on the guitar without worrying about ripping the headset off their ear, or their head off their neck. That puts my total wired devices at any time to three, which is good because my 4th USB port is being used by my wireless adaptor. I wish they offered wireless drums and microphone for Rock Band, but c'est la vie. |
Hmmm. Didn't think about getting a used guitar. I wonder what they go for. I may have to go that route and get a long ass USB extension cable.
|
From everything I've read I understand that any Guitar Hero guitar will work on Rock Band, but they HAVEN'T said whether Rock Band guitars will work on the old GH games, especially GH3.
I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do, since all my stuff is currently PS2. I'd like to sell it all and get as many wireless instruments as possible. I may get GH3 with a wireless guitar, then get Rock Band with a wireless guitar, so I have one of each. Then pick up the drums and mic in the future. |
I would think GH3 MUST work with Rock Band guitars. If they somehow disable it, then they are also disabling previous GH2 guitars and there would be a huge uproar over that.
|
How is that? This is a new guitar, and wireless to boot. Who's to say it will be recognized the same way as the X-Plorer will? I'm just going off their website, which only mentions the X-Plorer. I'm just hedging my bets and keeping one of my two X-Plorer controllers in case neither are compatible with the other.
