First, I love my PS3 and have been playing it and the Wii about 50-50 since launch. Never owned an XBox or 360 so I won't get into the middle of the debate...

Just wondering if anyone else here as been getting the 80010005 read error on their PS3 lately?? I've been getting it about 33% of the time I turn on my PS3 since I got the 1.50 firmware. 1.51 didn't fix the problem. Basically no PS3 games (on disc or even downloaded games) will load and this error pops up on the screen. Sometimes restarting the system cures the problem, sometimes it doesn't. If a restart doesn't work, loading a Blu-ray movie first, then trying a game always works. So it seems to definitely be a software problem with the PS3. However a call to Sony results in them telling me to do a system restore. Whatever, that doesn't seem right as some on other forums I've been checking say that the error continues after the restore anyway and I really don't want to have to redownload all my demos. Wondering if this is a problem present on everyone's console or just a small minority of us???

I also have a Ps3, Wii and X360. I play the X360 for Gears mostly and the Wii gets played with by the kids and myself. The PS3, on the other hand, only gets a rented game once a month and BR movies. I still haven't bought a game. RoM looks interesting, but right now I am REFUSING to buy any game that doesn't do 1080i/p because my TV only does 1080i and 480p. The Wii is acceptable at 480p but the PS3 is not. If the X360 can make every game play in 1080i, why can't Sony? I know they are "supposed" to fix it, but I don't believe it until I see it....

I think EVENTUALLY the PSP games will be playable on the PS3. Sony isn't too quick to implement anything though.

Full Auto 2 demo is up also.

LOL to the above comment

By the way in the latest Gameinformer magazine, it says Mercenaries II is for the Xbox360 only...

If that's a serious comment, good luck with that. I also have a PS3 and am completely underwhelmed regarding the PSN. Don't expect anywhere near the quality of XBL. I still have my fingers crossed that Sony will improve their online service but I'm not holding me breath.

I finally phoned Sony about not seeing any video when trying to play a PS2 game on my PS3. They took a lot of information, then told me to reset all settings to default. After that, she hung up on me.

Great, the hits just keep on coming for my PS3!

Rented Underworld Unleashed on BluRay, and got the dreaded:

This video cannot be played.
(80029940)

Looking online, seems like this isn't a consistent problem. Disc itself looks nearly flawless. Urgh.

I had a problem with Eight Below. I didn't get the error but the movie kept freezing up. Very annoying. The disk looked perfect so I don't know what the deal was...

My PS3 has been getting zero gaming in as of late. For the last 2 months all i've been using it for is the Blu Ray. I hope I didn't make a mistake by purchasing this thing. Anyone else having buyer's remorse?

Not at all. I knew going in that there weren't going to be any games I wanted for a few months. I'm looking forward to Oblivion since I don't have a 360.

No remorse here. But, I'm really looking forward to VF5, NBA Homecourt, and F1.

Hi guys. Lame question. Just got the PS3, but it's the lower model with the 20 Gig HD. How do I install the 1.51 software update since there is no bluetooth or USB input? Thanks.

First of all, there are USB ports. They're on the bottom under the "lip" of the top area of the console. There is Bluetooth also, so the remote and other such devices will work (wi-fi is what's missing). You can connect to the Internet to download the update with the ethernet port on the back.

It took me 8+ hours to download the Full Auto demo....and this is directly connected. Not sure why I got the short end of the stick for the PSN.

There is a network setting that you have to turn off in your router. If you search for my posts, I posted about it in this thread. It's really stupid.

BTW, I tried to download the firmware update Sunday and was unsuccessful about 15 times. Then, Monday night I turned it on and it downloaded immediately. I just think their servers are wonky.

Your suggestion was to turn off upnp on your router and the PS3. Just posting it here so others don't have to search (it's in the previous, now locked, thread). Not sure if that's been patched yet.

As I haven't played that many BluRay discs on my PS3, I am concerned about that (80029940) error. I marked it as defective and returned it to BBOnline, but I'm really hoping it's not my PS3 that's defective. In searching for this error code online, I see a handful of complaints on different titles, and a lot of the responses are the typical PS3 fanboy defenses, that the original poster is lying, or trying to play pirated movies, or whatnot. Argh. I better crack open that copy of Talledega Nights and make sure it plays ok.

Also, against the suggestions of every review out there, I rented the PS3 Gundam game. I'm a huge Gundam fan, I love most of the Gundam games that most reviewers hate, but this could be one of the worst games ever made. I'm curious to see sales numbers on this one, and I hope Namco/Bandai doesn't look at this as an indication of the popularity of Gundam games, because I'd love a Super Robot Wars Gundam game down the line.

Ok, I'll look at my Router settings. I'm using Cable and my PS3 is directly connected to my router. I know my PC downloads lightning fast and the 360 is better than the PS3.

So, turn off UPNP on the router AND PS3 then?

Yeah, you want to turn it off on both ends. I couldn't download anything until I did that and it seemed to magically fix the problem. I can't explain it, but it fixed my problems. I couldn't complete a single download (including firmware) until I did that.

I'd love to see a translated review that stated that this game is above average. I guess the graphics are pretty if you're just looking at screenshots and not at the Mobile Suits in motion or anything. Unless they got a different build or something. Granted, I didn't play it much, but I didn't want to play it any more. Maybe it gets better?

I'm not really scared that they won't develop more Gundam games in Japan (where it sells like hotcakes) but that they won't bring them over here...

I'm interested in getting FFXII, anybody know off hand if the new software update fixed those backwards compatibility issues? Thx.
