My wife bought me a PS3 for our anniversary on 1/5 and at that time I saw stacks of them in the local Target and Wal-Mart. I think the majority of us realize that me made more than just 1 stupid comment in the interview. I did read the entire article and it was pretty amusing to hear how Sony is really struggling at the moment. I'm enjoying my PS3 but right now all I'm doing in playing PS2 games that came out after I sold my PS2. Loving God of War and have to say that it's better, in terms of fun and gameplay, than any PS3 game out there now.

i just got a PS3 and i like it ALOT...like the 360 it will take time...i have faith in sony...i mean look at what they have done in the past....they will catch up eventually...
i rember when the 360 came out...all people did was bitch about the price....now a year and more later look, almost every gamer has one.....it will take time but this system will be great...and DAMN it has ALOT of potential.{:OP

Honestly though, if thats what we're expected to do--wait until they catch up--why spend all that money NOW when theres nothing to do with the system but watch a few blu ray movies? If they catch up THATS when people should spend money, not before. It will likely be cheaper then too.

honestly price if it drops isnt gonna drop that much on avrage on the 20 gig there losing an average of $250 per system and on the 60 gig $375 per system, if not more....so i dont seee the price droping anytime soon....plus it has a blu-ray player...and thats the "new thing" and u cant find one of the blu-ray players by themselves for under i think $700.
but for thoes of u doubting urself for buying one...just look at the line up of up comin games...then u can smile...{:OP. and once game companies catch up to the power the ps3 actually has...the games will blow 360 out of the water...

I consider myself a hardcore gamer and an avid movie watcher. I thought I could hold out on getting a PS3 because none of the games interest me at the moment. But, with The Departed(cheaper on BD) and mainly Casino Royale coming to blu-ray, I just gonna go ahead and get one tonight at Best Buy.

Questions:
-I have an HDMI cable so is that all I need to get my video and audio coming out of my PS3, or do I need an optical cable as well?
-Are there any other "must have" accessories I need to pick up with my purchase? (controller cable for charging, etc.)
-should I get the Best Buy warranty?

Casino Royale was the impetus for me getting one, as well.

what if within the next year Sony comes out with a standalone bluray player thats cheaper than the PS3?

If that happens, theres no reason to get a ps3--for me anyway. Theres only 1 or 2 games that even kind of look good, and thats IF they even come out.

otherwise if the ps3 drops in price SIGNIFICANTLY thats when ill get one. Its just a blurray player to me.

Accessories-wise, the remote is nice to have, easier to use than the controller when navigating blu-ray movies. The PS3 includes the "charging" cable, which is a standard USB to mini-usb cable. Audio-wise, I had to use an optical cable since my receiver does not decode HDMI audio, but if yours does, just the HDMI cable is enough.

Be prepared to spend quite a bit of time configuring the system and downloading firmware updates and demos, and such. Motorstorm and Gran Turismo HD are the best demos, F1 racing is pretty good too. They do also have simplier games like Sudoku and Lemmings. Supposedly Tekken 5 HD is coming soon, since it's already released overseas.

I just read the whole interview in EGM. Tretton seems like a perfect fit at Sony. While some answers seem quite honest and believable from a business standpoint, the whole thing still reeks of both arrogance and ignorance. The final version of Motorstorm looks identical to the CG teaser? Come on. If he really believes that they need someone else in charge. That's just one of the easy ones to nitpick, along with the PS3's collecting dust on the shelves.

and as far as the games i have played on the ps3 the graphics are better than the 360...I LOVE THE PS3....and i also read there doing the whole faceplate thing like 360...i guess sony wants u to mod ur PS3...kinda funny i thought they were against it...but if u look at the whole picture the 360 is 400 without the HD DVD drive...add another $100....u can get almost the same this in ps3 and u pay a little more for the blu-ray player...sounds like a good deal to me.....

But if you dont care about HD movies and want a buttload of great games NOW while saving $100+ - it doesn't sound like a good deal at all.

no my name is nick and i am from maine, no but seriously...i just tellling how i feel about this all....the way people are about the PS3 is the same way people were about the 360.....alot of smaller business when the 360 game out didnt carry games cause they wanted to make sure it was gonna stick around....and people are bitchin about the lack of games for the PS3..they were doing the same thing when the 360 first came out...everyone was like " the PS2 is better has more games i will just stick with that" and no people are saying that bout the 360....dont get me wrong i had a 360 and GOW and rainbow 6 vegas and all that played on xbox live....
then i got a PS3 and decided to sell me 360 because to me it is just a better deal, see unlike some i am into the whole HD tv and movies and the best picture i can get for a system the better...and i def. see that in the PS3, and it is comming, people just need to be patient, and i see some arent...but i guess i can go on and on about this...but oh well...ok i rambled enough now...
they just need to hurry up and make a attachment so i can play Guitar Hero on the PS3.....LOL

how about let's not go down this route of 360 + add on != PS3 crap again. It's been done far too often. And at this point the games look essentially equal. Tiger Woods was the exact same game - as was Tony Hawk. They looked and played pretty much the same.

I'd like to hear what great games are coming out on the PS3 in the coming months that I should be excited about. I am excited about Lair, but beyond that, I don't see anything, not even any Japanese rpgs to get excited about. My PS3 is pretty much a 600 dollar machine to play Okami and Final Fantasy XII, and until recently, it didn't even do that very well. Rented Resistance and thought it was ok (not a big FPS fan so I'm not the best judge), and even though I bought Genji because it was bundled with it, I haven't even bothered to open it yet. I'm not asking for the moon, Sony, just some decent releases that aren't FPS's. Or any of this so-called innovation that you've been bringing to the games industry for so many years now.

Forgot to mention another tidbit of the EGM interview with Tretton, where they grill him with the fact that they only include composite cables with the PS3, and he says that it's because most people wouldn't have a TV to take advantage of component cables/HDMI anyway. If so, why bundle a Blu-ray player in there???

And where is the Departed BluRay cheaper than the regular release?

I think he meant relative to the HD DVD release, which is priced higher due to it being a combo.

lol i dont have an HD tv yet..so i ahve been playin just the old reg way...and to me the graphics are AWESOME! and my friends that have come over they mostly have 360's and they agree that the graphics are a little better...
