Has anyone had any problems watching movies since upgrading to 1.5? I upgraded to 1.5 on Tuesday and the PS3 freezed three times that evening while watching The Ant Bully in Blu Ray (man that movie looked amazing) and it even freezed twice yesterday while watching Farce of the Penguins on regular DVD. The DVD and BD looked perfect from the back. In fact, I had just bought Ant Bully and it was brand new and Farce of the Penguins came out on Tuesday (the day I rented it) so I assume I rented a brand new never used copy.

I have not had this problem, but I've only watched a couple of BDs since updating to 1.5.

However, 1.51 is now available. It's not yet known what it addresses, but maybe it will fix this for those with problems.

Overstock did the same with the Wii, it covers their ass if anyone tried to use a coupon and otherwise, yes, they're scalping (I think they had the Wii for 399, no extras).

GameStop.com also has them in stock, regular price.

Well, this quickie update was probably to undo something they did in 1.50. Some people had reported long pauses during BDs, and they've been getting calls about it. I think they knew just what was causing it and issued the update to fix it.

The 1.51 update? I thought it fixed the Blu-ray playback issues.

Yes, the 1.51 update. I haven't watched another movie yet though. I also noticed CoD3 played at 480p on my TV when it says it does 1080i on the back of the case. This is a rented game and I didn't try it before the update. The GT demo runs in 1080i as did Full Auto (before update for FA).....

I don't things are that scarce as much as people aren't taking to the PS3. I've had a PS3 for over a month now and have yet to play anything on it because the 360 is devouring my free gaming time.

I have yet to hear people having any online gaming experience on the PS3 thats even remotely next gen. Are people chatting in chatrooms before/after the game? Discussing strategies and preferences? How come the PS3 cant be like the 360?

Example: While playing COD2 player A said, "Hey the demo for Lost Planet just came out--Lets go download it and try it out"

players agree (some players never knew it was available) and go play a new game.

Or simply the ability to screen out everyone whos not a member of DVDtalk (friends list)

Online on the PS3 is far behind the 360. It's much easier to do EVERYTHING on the 360 IMO. Chat on PSN is a pain in the ass(if your bluetooth mic works....) and not everyone has a mic.

M$ was smart to give out the headsets with the premium systems and to everyone who bought the Live package. Sony has alot of catching up to do on the online portion. I had started a resistance clan for us here at the forums but have not done much with it because of the crappy online from sony. Most times I can't even get in a MP game so I give up and go to my 360 and have a blast with GoW or R6.

I guess its no secret id only buy a PS3 for the bluray. I was hoping it would offer more, just because a console SHOULD be so much more.

Sorry, can't wait that long for a price drop.

Anyone catch the interview with Jack Tretton, CEO of Soncy Computer Entertainment America in the latest EGM (apologies if this is old news, I just got my copy in the mail). I give him credit for lasting through a pretty long interview with some hard questions, but man Sony's attitude really comes out in the things that he says.

At one point he basically says "If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1200 bucks for it." Then when EGM tells him that they called 18 random retailers in the area and half of them had it in stock, he backpedals and says that if they're really telling the truth, if only 9 out of 18 stores have them in stock, it's a good sign. Every time he's asked about the weak launch lineup or the high price, he starts talking about the success of the PS1 and PS2.

I also thought his comments on the Wii were laughable:
"I don't know if that's the type of machine to take this industry in the quantum leaps that we've taken it over time. Again, are you reaching 100 million consumers worldwide, are you reaching upward of 50 million consumers in North America, are you attracting the consumers, are you expanding the base? I think we've done a tremendous job of doing that over the past 11 years, and we've done it pretty much singlehandedly I don't know if [the Wii]ultimately has the horses to do that."

Not trying to threadcrap, I have a PS3 (and the other two systems) and hope that it does well. But they need to stop resting on their past achievements and open their eyes here.

Man, if he's offering $1,200 for PS3's on shelves for more than fives minutes, then he owes me about $10,000 for the PS3's in my store alone.

To be fair, that $1200 statement was made in January. It might have been difficult to get a PS3 at that point. But I'm also getting tired of the "WE'RE Sony, you'll buy it" attitude.

Apparently 1.6 firmware will have Background Downloading...now, when do we get it, who knows. Although, nothing really I want anymore on the PS3 as it sits there and just stares at me.

background downloading will be nice to have when playing games. So hopefully some of those will start coming out soon. I just noticed that heavenly sword is not coming out till June now (accordning to GameInformer)

Even if it were January, he stills owes me about $10,000.

I was in New York on Sunday, January 14th and one store (EBGames) had 8 PS3s for sale. Not one was sold that entire day. So, Mr Tretton owe me $9600.
